What to expect from a grooming appointment
For the month of September, we will feature some commonly asked questions of our groomers at GroomingTails here Rochester Pet & Country Store . We hope you enjoy learning more from our dog grooming experts!
Many people are nervous to bring their beloved pup to the groomer for the first time. For certain breeds, regular grooming is needed to keep the pet happy and healthy. Even if your dog doesn’t need regular trims, a professional bather can help coat health and appearance. Throughout the grooming process, our groomers inspect your pet for any irregularities, such as skin issues like ticks, fleas, dry skin, or fungal concerns. Additionally, we check the nails, ears, and eyes to identify any signs of infection or inflammation.
When you first come in, you’ll have a quick meeting with your groomer to confirm what services will be performed during the appointment and how you’d like your pet to look in the end. As Aurie says, it’s important to give the dog “a haircut tailored to what the client wants.” Cuts can vary form summer to winter depending on preferences, and sometimes you just want to shake things up! (Mohawk, anyone? 🙂 ) The most common types of services we perform here are:
Full Groom - Includes a full haircut, bath, brush, nail trimming, ear cleaning/ plucking and gland expression if needed
Partial Groom - Includes a partial trim (face, feet and sanitary area only), bath, brush, nail trimming, ear cleaning/ plucking and gland expression if needed.
Bath and Brush - Includes a bath, brush, nail trimming, ear cleaning/ plucking and gland expression if needed.
Nail trim - Quick service that is done while you wait with a clippers or a Dremel upon request.
After confirming with your groomer the services you’d like for the appointment, you’ll leave your dog in our groomer’s capable hands. You can be assured, though, according to Mac; “Your pet’s safety and comfort is what always comes first. We strive to offer them the best possible experience while we make them look good.” Why do we ask that you drop your dogs off rather than invite you to stay for the grooming or bath and brush services? First, dogs tend to be more anxious when they are in new situation and can’t be near their moms or dads that they know are near by. If you aren’t here, they respond better to our groomers. Don’t worry, though, Caroline wants you also to expect for “us to give your dog lovings! :)”.
The other reason owners don’t stay is that the grooming process can take up to 2 hours for small dogs and up to 4 for large dogs. Quality work is not a quick process, and we want to make sure they are dry when you take your groomed pup home! When they are ready to show off their new style, the groomers will give you a call for pickup.
When you do come to take your dog home, we do ask that you stop by the front desk first thing before checking on them. We know you are excited to see them, but it’s less stressful for your dog to if you check out first. When they see you, they are ready to be with you! If you peek in on them and then go pay, it leads to sad and confused pups.
This was just a brief glimpse into what to expect for your dog at an appointment at GroomingTails. If you have an further questions or would like to book an appointment, please give us a call at (507) 285-5547!
