A very special project I worked on over our winter break was this piece for my parents, celebrating 10 years of their mountain house, lovingly named Camp Harvey. My family has spent countless summer holidays and long weekends up there, with siblings, niece and nephews, nurturing our love of the Adirondacks. While this illustration doesn’t capture all of our outdoor hiking adventures, it does encapsulate a moment in time, all of the kiddos sharing the same living room, toy closet emptied out all over the floor. There is much love there, and all kinds of fun to be had💛

Love-in-a-mist: perplexity, protection, openness, & delicacy. The meanings of this flower seem as wide as its medicinal uses and history, and I couldn’t help falling into a research rabbit hole before sketching this piece out. I received the seeds from a generous gardening friend, and they bloomed profusely last year. I love the leaves, which are both wispy and spikey, and the cloud they make for the blooms to nestle into. Having been teased with a week or two of mild weather, I already see self-sown seedlings emerging. Very ready for the new life of spring.

Stretching my colored pencil muscles with this piece, and truly love it. The full version that I shared in my stories yesterday says “take all my money” at the bottom, which is accurate when it comes to my relationship with plants. 🤩💚

Finished this illustration of Henry today, and can’t help but be torn between these two versions. The first is a photo taken with my iphone, and the second is a scan. How could one possibly choose between the softness of the scene and the glow of fluorescent lights? Is love to know which bookworm you all are most drawn to.

Last week I discovered this pattern, and personalizing it to reflect our family favorites is my new obsession. Frog and Toad is an essential, but I’m rather afraid of having to narrow down our book list to fit my available time and wall space. 🙃📖

Happy new year! I’ve been quiet in here as I rest and spend time with family. But I’m back and excited to be able to share this piece, my last 2023 portrait commission. Being able to mentally escape to the lake and live vicariously through reference photos during the winter season was a warming gift. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have a project request- these post holiday months tend to be slower for artists, and I tend to be creatively recharged, so send them my way!
