🐾BTFD: SOCIAL HOUR🐾
This week we are giving you a peak into what Social Hour with @companionhomestead looks like! Each week, the lovely Joyce transports a pup who is being housed at Paws & Claws Humane Society to come play at CA!
The program is held to not only give the pup respite from the shelter, but also to help CH learn more about the pup so that they can give that insight to potential new owners! This insight includes: How does the pup do with other pups? How does the pup do with Humans? How does the pup do in a new environment? Etc.
With this type of information, there is less opportunity for unknowns that may cause a pup to be returned back to the shelter, therefore helping end the cycle of returns - which is Companion Homestead’s mission!

BTFD ✈️ Pet Boarding and Daycare Expo West
Last week, Allison & Alexis attended The Pet Boarding & Daycare Expo in Las Vegas! The expo is one of the biggest conferences in the US in our industry 🤩
During their time, Allison & Alexis attended educational classes from 9a-6p with breaks, to give them opportunities to connect with various facility owners and operators from around the country! And they even ran into some of our local friends from @centralbarkrochester & @leashesandleads! Along with networking, they were able to explore the trade show, which had SO much to see & offer!
Their overall goal was to stay up to date on dog safety, dog health, facility management, and feel good business growth 🤍 and it’s safe to say they achieved just that!

At CA, we are always looking for ways to be “GREEN” 💚 Taking a look around our CA home, you’ll see numerous ways that we try to reduce waste & reuse versus using “one and done” items. Some of the “Green” that you will see are:

Today for our BTFD, we are giving you a look at how we do our newest add-on, Ear Rinse!
Three key components of an ear rinse are:
1. Massaging in the rinse, allowing for the rinse to reach & clean as much of the canal as possible;
2. Wiping the ear of any excess rinse to prevent the ear from being too wet & causing any discomfort; and
3. Giving your pup a treat to say Good Work 😉🥰😋
Ear rinses are an important piece to overall pup health & are now available to add-on to any reservation for Playcare & boarding or our bath & blowout service!

Last Day of April = Time to Change the Activities Calendar!
We’ve been doing activities with the pups for many years & its always fun coming up with different ideas & of course, actually doing the activities with the pups 😄😊 Pinterest, TikTok, & Instagram are just some of the places that we look for new ideas & any that we come across that we like, we add to a shared note 📝& use to fill in our calendar!
Next we add any events that are happening during the month, just to have as an added reminder 😉🥰 And this weekend we have TWO special events: PCHS Pet Walk & Companion Homestead’s Tacos. Treasures. & Tails. Event!
And lastly, we add birthdays to the calendar! We have a sheet that we list all of the pups’ birthdays & add to it as we welcome new FURends 🤍
••BTFD••
Today we are taking you with us as we transition the pups to and from outside time! Our FURends get outside time throughout the day, so transitions are a huge part of the daily routine. For most of our pups, especially those that hang out with us on the daily, know right where to go when coming & going 😄🤍
We use the white fencing to help eliminate any running through the hallway & even use it as a guiding tool, when needed. As we transition, both outside & inside, we always count the number of pups & make sure that the number of pups going out is the same as the number coming in. Even though it isn’t shown, we do a name-to-face count once the pups are in the pod, as well!
While the pups are outside with our yard manager, the team member inside will take care of any accidents, spilled water, etc. along with refilling the pod water bowl 😊
You may have noticed that not all the pups went into the pod when coming in. That’s because this transition was a bit different than a typical one throughout the day, as it was meal time and the three pups that stayed out were needing lunch! 😋🐾

This one is definitely a trickier part of what we do 😄 Making play groups really comes down to one major component: knowing your pups 🐶 With being a smaller facility, we know the pups pretty dang well & are very familiar with each of their temperaments, play style, playmate preference, etc!
We like to start with making tentative groups; these pups for the most part have similar play styles, temperaments, & most of them have played together before. So that’s why we’ve chosen for them to be together 😊 As you can see the meetings are smooth & for the most part, are just a few sniffs to say hello & then they go right on to do their business!
Who loves Breakfast?!? 🥞🍳🍽️
On BTFD this week, we’re giving you a look at how we serve up breakfast for our boarding pups!
We separate the pups into either mini pods or kennels - unless they’re siblings & are able to eat in the same area. We do this for safety, as resource guarding food can be common & we want to make sure that pups can eat safely and peacefully 😌
We start the day with clean dishes - cleaning them after dinner, as bowls should be cleaned at least once a day 👍🏼 Toppers, such as salmon oil, are only used if a pup needs a little extra incentive 😉 otherwise, breakfast is dished up as normal & served!
Each pup is given at least 15-45 minutes to eat & digest before joining their play groups & starting their days!

Today was an earlier start as I had a drop off by appointment! Turning on lights, checking our communication notebook, booting up the laptop, & grabbing the phone are first on the list of to-dos! Since our sleepover pups were at Allison’s last night, the pods were empty & clean water dishes/mats were ready to go!
Prepping the pods includes bringing down the cots & water bowls with mats (unless the pod will have Furends who enjoy playing with the mat 😜), and filling the bowls with fresh water 🤍 There are 7 main pods that are used, so this task can take a bit of time!
Next, I go back to the computer & get our Ging’r app refreshed for the day & of course, we gotta have our tunes to start the day! Clean dishes are put away & our meal/add-on board is wiped off from the day before & today’s are added 😊
Lastly, I fill out our whiteboards with the pups names, breed, & any notes for each of the pods & start to welcome my pups for the day! 🥰 Have a PAW-SOME Tuesday!!

Ever wonder what scheduling for CA looks like?
Well you’re in luck! Because, as I’m sure you guessed, our BTFD this week gives you a look into just that! We actually use Google Sheets for our team schedule 📆 📢 Insert Shout Out to Google Sheets 📢
Each team member is assigned a color when hired & for the most part, we all have our regular weekly schedules, so not a lot changes 🥰 So much so, that we have a separate template doc to copy & paste the days 😄
We’ve got a phenomenal team and scheduling is a breeze when you have a team like ours 🤍🤍
((Even when you have that one team member that can never show up on time 😆😉🤣))
Giving you all the “dish” on BTFD 😋
It’s a simple task that we do, but nonetheless an important one! Dishes are typically done 1-2 times a day, just depending on the amount of pups that are receiving meals! Bowls that are being used by boarding pups are cleaned at least once a day, if not twice ✌🏼and there is almost always a coffee cup in need of being cleaned 😜
Once cleaned and dry, the bowls are put away in the ‘clean bowls’ bin and our silverware (these are strictly used for serving up pup food) are put back into their respective bin 😊
And there you have it! Dishes Done ☑️

This is something that we’ve had on our list for a long time! Even though you can see a huge chunk of our space from the lobby, we wanted to give you the full experience!

Allie, Laura, and Alexis took another unique opportunity to visit & connect with another dog filled city! This year was San Diego, CA ✈️🐾🌊
We visited and spoke with staff & owners from:
• DOG BAKERIES
• DOG + HOME RETAIL
• LUXURY GROOMING
• DOG PARKS
• DAYCARE + BOARDING FACILITIES
• DOG CENTRIC RESTAURANTS
We asked questions, listened, admired, & most importantly HIGH-FIVED our new industry friends! 😃✋🏽
It was empowering to travel on our own *information seeking* itinerary vs letting a ‘conference’ do it for us. We weren’t spoon fed preconceived facts and figures, but instead wisdom was shared with us was on the floor and from the hearts of people who are absolutely head over heels for these beloved animals 💗 the passion and enthusiasm from them was rejuvenating and reciprocated!
We are still throwing out ideas for 2025’s destination, but we can ensure you, it will be another city that allows us to bring back WORLD CLASS CARE AND SERVICE to you and your PUP 🤍🤍🤍
