🥰 Sweet little CALLIOPE is the last Mini L@bradoodle left from the puppy mill rescue we did back in late summer. She's estimated just 2 years old and only 13 lbs. Fully vetted and super sweet - BUT has some extreme separation anxiety, so no apartments for her and she'd love someone who is more of a homebody and around with her a lot of the time. She will NOT potty while on a leash, so she needs a securely fenced in yard. And someone with some patience to give this little love bug a chance to acclimate to her new home and the ability to withstand some whining and crying at least initially.

She's been returned for being too whiney the first 12 hours, and has had many more applications who ignore the part where we say she 100% needs a fully fenced in yard. (most of our dogs do NOT, but Calliope does). She's in a loving foster home now where she's become very comfortable and relaxed and loving, which shows it can happen, but they're not in a position to adopt and we know we can find the perfect home for this cutie.

She'd do great with another confident, friendly dog in the home, but that's not a 100% requirement. The fenced in yard and no apartments part IS.

End of year!!! Start of new year!!!

Urgent funds and fosters!!!

Help us help them. At the strike of midnight we had the 2 domestic violence dogs Ace and Oreo surrendered and also earlier in the day Barkley /Donte saved from certain euthanasia as a return at the shelter.

We also had urgent surgery for our returned friend Po. We couldn’t wait to get his tail docked and his mouth tumor removed and teeth pulled any longer.

Both the DV dogs need complete vetting and Barkley/Donte a very expensive prescription food.

We need fosters long term for all these dogs but they are safe for the moment with short term/emergency fosters/boarding

We also have a 17 year old dog who is in need of surrender and vetting

It’s so much to cover everything and these dogs are local (return from 5 years ago adoption ) /surrender to the rescue

DV Survivor Needs Placement for dogs - sweet Senior female and friendly male (separate is okay)

She’s gotten out and is safe and has found a place to start over but can’t take her dogs. She’s heartbroken but is asking us to find them great homes and we will help if we can find fosters.

Can you provide a soft place for this everyone-friendly old girl and also for this handsome young guy who also does well with everyone including kids too.

Seasons Greetings and Happy Howlidays from the people and dogs (and recently some cats) of SHDR.
🎊🎁🎄🐾💕

As the year comes to a close we can’t help but think of the animals who have come and gone through this little rescue. This year we adopted out 452 pets (mostly dogs and a handful of cats)

We currently have 58 dogs we are fostering in homes around the Greater Rochester area (Syracuse to Buffalo to the southern tier)

We have been averaging 10 new dogs a week and the majority have been local. Our focus has to be mostly local but we still help out occasionally in the areas we’ve helped for years (Polk county Georgia and Greenbriar WV where pet overpopulation is at levels beyond unimaginable )

Pictured in our tree photo is Russ - a very good Boi who was scheduled to die 2-3 weeks ago because the shelter was super scary. Thanks to amazing volunteers this dog friendly sweet Sharpei husky blend is warm and loved in his foster home waiting for his forever to find him. (Foster mom even has granted him bed privileges)

In the next it’s a picture of Brandy and Bowie who were recently surrendered from a squatter house in Rochester in horrible conditions. Thanks to a foster home they are now learning how to be dogs and will one day make someone the best friend they always wanted.

In the last picture it’s a Christmas miracle for our Tatum (fka Trixie) this very sweet but shy girl was just given the ultimate gift from her Foster and was officially adopted today. So much happy tears for this girl and wonderful family.

Great UPDATED info on emergency resources over the holiday! 🐾 Here’s to not needing them this season, but just in case…

So I noticed a few details coming through with our urgent care and emergency centers - and wanted to put out a modified poster for the next week of Holiday Happenings!

AIC is Closed for the holidays.

Cornell is closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

Pittsford Animal Hospital has a different number than originally on the poster for their urgent care services.

Blue Pearl is having a high demand and asks that you call first so they can be better prepared if you need them.

And VCA is only open 10am-10pm for emergencies but they are offering a 50% discount on emergency exams if you get the coupon off their website.

I think that covers it from what I could dig up! Please keep this saved to your frequent files JUST IN CASE! Always better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

🆘 Help PO keep his tail! He's SO happy and is a super enthusiastic tail-wagger! Dog-free foster needed ASAP!

7-year old Po is facing amputation of his tail - our vet just recommended it! 🙁 He's got what's known as "happy tail" and constantly injures it in the crate with his enthusiastic wagging. Dogs with these kinds of injuries can get infections and lead to other complications. UNFORTUNATELY, he's a no-other-dogs dog and we have no available no-other-dog fosters! So we have no choice but to have him with a foster who has all of our no-other-dog dogs, and we have to have them crated except when we are able to rotate them out one at a time! 😣

🥹 We need some kind soul with no other dogs (cats are fine!) to help us foster him while we find him his forever home - he's a great dog and would be fine to be not crated, and if we can have him NOT crated, he can keep his tail amputated! He's a gorgeous guy and we know that some great pics with a new foster not to mention some couch lounging and family inclusion would do him wonders in finding his new home.

🙏 HELP - and if you know of someone who would be willing to help this guy with a soft place to land, we'll find him a home, AND let him keep his tail!

Where are our SHAR PEI lovers?! Those forehead wrinkles! 🥹 Squee!

🖤🤎🩶 We've got not one but TWO gorgeous guys looking for their forever homes, and these magnificent dogs are stunning and great personalities to back up their looks!

BRUNO is an early senior for his size (about 8 and 65 lbs), has a great, friendly personality, is great on a leash and loves walks, knows basic commands, and has a wonderful demeanor. He's okay with kids but prefers older kids to younger kids who can make him a bit nervous. He's good with most dogs as long as they're not too "jerky", and he seems to prefer female dogs to males overall. No cats for Bruno. Bruno loves long walks but also couch potatoe-ing the rest of the time. He's the black one.

RUSS is new to the rescue and is undergoing a decompression and quiet shutdown period - he's really scared from all the recent changes in his life. But you can definitely tell he wants to be loved on. He's about 55 lbs and estimated about 4 years old - looks to be some kind of Sharp Pei Husky type mix? What a sweet boy who just needs someone to give him a chance and some patience. Extended trial adoption available for Russ to give him the best chance of success and lots of patience.
