URGENT HELP NEEDED 🛟🛟🛟🛟💰🆘

Last week our friends at Polk animal shelter had 2 dogs -Marvin and Merida -in dire straits. Both had major leg injuries and were going to be euthanized without a rescue to help them get treatment. Even though we had already spoken up for multiple local dogs we couldn’t let these southern pups suffer and we pulled them to one of our vets in the south. We also have a foster for Marvin in Georgia as he will need treatment for heartworm once his leg is healed.

Marvin the rotti mix has a laundry list of problems and is in really bad shape

He had almost no red blood cells and is very anemic from a heavy worm infection. The vet never saw such low numbers and have a dog be alive

He is heartworm positive and cannot have surgery til his red blood cells regenerate

We have him in foster this week and hopefully he will be able to have surgery Jan 2. He has a long road to recovery

Merida is also worm infested and has undergone deworming and cannot have surgery til her general health is better. She is boarding at the vet.

This will be very involved and we need you and your help to get these pups better. Merida is heartworm negative and can come up after the holidays and needs a hospital foster locally

🐾 Foster Needed ASAP! 🐾
CAN YOU HELP?! 🙏

Punkin is a smaller boxery mix (just 30-35 lbs) who was returned after adoption - we learned she's got a very high prey drive and can't be in a home with any cats or other small animals. 🚫🐱

We currently have NO fosters available for this sweet snuggly and playful young girl, and are having to pay BOARDING for her until we can find a foster! 💸

Please help get her out of boarding and into a home, and help the rescue save the funds we're paying out for boarding that could be better used towards direct expenses of our currently 110+ dog in rescue. All expenses paid if you foster for us!

🥰 Punkin loves taking walks, car rides, playing with people and other dogs, and snuggles on the couch. She needs some one-on-one attention with housetraining and frequent outs and high-value treats to reinforce pottying outside only.

Please let us know if you might be able to help Punkin AND the rescue by giving her a happy foster home for the holidays until she finds her forever home!

We've gone through all the applications and there's still a few of the LABRADOODLE PUPPIES left that we rescued from the puppy mill a week and a half ago! These are all SMALLER doodles. We've got some 4 month olds (1 female and some males) and several of the 10 month old males. All are brown/dark brown except one of the 10 month olds, who is black.

They've all been safely in foster now for almost 2 weeks and have been checked out and have first shots and are being wormed and gotten meds etc, so are ready for adoption. (Two 10-month doodles had to be groomed down to a very close coat - and the 4 month olds' coats are all still less floofy)

We'll likely get BURIED in applications again (we have not even listed them on PetFinder yet), so if interested, apply right away. Adoption fee, which includes neuter/spay and microchip, as well as vetting to age, a positive training rebate, and support of the rescue, is $500 for the 10 month olds and $600 for the 4 month olds.

In this season of thankfulness and counting our blessings 💗, we're SO grateful for the supportive community of professionals who help SHDR with our mission to save lives! 🙏🐾

Today it's all about GROOMERS! When we get local surrenders, it's sometimes the case that owners have struggled in one way or another for some time. While some come to the decision to surrender their dog perhaps a bit TOO lightly, some wait too long until after they're no longer able to adequately care for their dogs for one reason or another. In these cases, we often get especially small dogs who are emergency cases and matted to the point of physical harm and pain to them. And ALWAYS we have local groomers who selflessly answer our call for emergency appointments and often even donate their expertise or discount. 🫶

🐾🛟🆘 LABRADOODLE PUPPIES- fosters and fosters-to-adopt needed NOW! (like, right this minute!)
4.5 month olds & 10 month olds

We occasionally will hear from someone with a connection with the puppy mill farms and hear of unsold puppies who are about to be "dispatched" since they're past the chubby 2 month old stage and "aren't worth maintaining any longer.", and they don't discount, they just get rid of them. We ABHOR these puppy mills and everything they stand for, BUT cannot stand aside when we are given the opportunity to help save lives of pups who didn't ask for where they were born and who we can find wonderful forever homes for. And when the call comes, it's move right then or delay and risk the loss of the puppies.

Having said that - we have just an hour ago (in the southern tier)took in several litters of chocolate labradoodles, some 4.5 months old and some 10 months old. We have them in hand and they're on their way back to Rochester and we need our community's help now!
We'll be getting them all vetted to age and neutered/spayed but right now need homes for them to be safe and loved while we look for forever homes for them.

Please pass the word and apply now if you're willing to foster a couple of these pups, or might even be interested in a foster-to-adopt, or know of someone who might be. They're cute as can be, with less of a floofy coat and a little more labby coat.

🥳🎉 GREAT NEWS SUNDAY! 🐾🐾
After 2.5 years, DIXON has been ADOPTED and found his Forever Home!!! This big loveable lug who has come to so many events and been loved on, gushed over, and ooh and awwwed, was FINALLY CHOSEN by a great family! 😍
All of our great team let out a collective HURRAY when the news got out! WOOO!

‼️‼️ Amazingly, we have 1️⃣8️⃣ dogs who have been with the rescue for over a year, and another 1️⃣3️⃣ who have been in rescue for over TWO YEARS, with all food, vetting, preventatives, etc covered. And of course many of those are large dogs - one of the many reasons rescue is so hard financially! Some admittedly might need more of a very specific what we refer to as a 🦄 special home, but many just need to be the only dog, or are XL although perfect in every other way, or a senior, or not good with cats, or need lots of patience to get comfortable for people to see their awesomeness. 100% adoptable!

Please consider some of our longer residents - many could even benefit from a new foster without another dog. The not-good-with-other-dogs are almost all unfortunately with fosters with other dogs bc 99% of our fosters have dogs of their own. And so end up needing to be "crated-and-rotated". So being in a home where they can just hang in the living room around the family and only occasionally crated would be so great for them!

In any event three cheers for our team for matching up Dixon's new family with this awesome boy who was waiting for way too long!

YES WE ARE ONLY A DOG RESCUE

but we have a few feline friends that ended up in our care by happenstance

Surrender requests are never ending and we have 4 cats in need of homes too that we ended up with from a feral colony locally and a relative who was unable to keep their very large friendly pet

2 of the kittens are siblings and adoption is ok separate or together they are only 10 weeks and still need to be fixed

The adult cat is fully vetted and super friendly but large at 15 lbs

The grey kitten is 6 months or so guess and fully vetted as well - he is very very outgoing

All are socialized to other cats and are dog friendly.

150 adoption fee for each (includes fixing for the 2 unfixed)

✨ RETURNED BUT RESILIENT! 😎 Featuring a bunch of wonderful dogs whose perfect homes have just not found them yet! Reduced adoption fee for these pups now through the end of the year! (full list at Returnees at bottom of post included in this campaign!)

🐾 MISS WAFFLES is back at Second Hand Dog Rescue, and we’re sure there’s a perfect match out there just waiting for her!

🐾 Yes, Waffie-Woo-Woo (as her foster who is a huge fan calls her) has her quirks—but we’re confident the right person will see that she's still a gem worth loving. Despite her average size, Waffles can clear a 7' fence! She's definitely part kangaroo. To complicate matters a bit more, she's quite leash reactive, so is challenging (but not impossible - our walker volunteers do well with her with a no-pull leash) on walks or if she was in a busy neighborhood with a lot of traffic. So she really needs a quiet neighborhood OR a fenced-in yard just to reduce stimulation from cars, etc. But using a tie-out or walking on a leash to prevent soaring into the neighbor's yard.
However, in return, Waffles is a super loyal and steadfast companion. She's got a lot of play energy but also enjoys just chilling in the sunshine. She's good with most dogs as long as not too crazy, and kids the same - no little kids for her.

☺️☺️☺️ PUPPY FOSTERS NEEDED NOW! (Or foster-to-adopt and get to know a few and make your pick!) We've got someone needing to surrender a mom and her litter of 12 (!) mixed small-medium breed puppies, 8 weeks old and ready for adoption! There may well be multiple fathers involved here of different sizes (yes, that's a thing for those who didn't know that!) as the mom was out on the town at the time, although MOST have the same look.

What we need are some temporary fosters to take hopefully 2-3 puppies each to split them up and help us get good pictures and give them some individual attention and socialization now that they don't need mom. Mama Eliana is only about 30 lbs, but it's hard to say what the mix on these cuties is. They're definitely all on the small side for 8 weeks old.

Please help! Fostering puppies is honestly SO fun! You can get a few set up in a little pen area and let them out in controlled times and there is NOTHING that soothes the soul like PUPPY BREATH and kisses! MAMA Eliana also needs a foster, hopefully separate from any of her puppies, and will be available for adoption, as well. As soon as we can take them into rescue, we'll be getting all vetting done.

🙏 BIG SHOUTOUT to Furvor for their generous donation of a BUNCH of supplement chews to SHDR recently! We had many of our pups who enjoyed the different formulas and our fosters were able to grab a few shots - new Mom Kara got the Aller-Imun, big former puppy mill mom Mulan the rottie says the Mobility ones are perfect for her size, King the husky mix felt a little under pressure to decide but loved his Aller-Immun, sweet parapalegic Minnie who uses a custom doggy wheelchair to get around uses the Omega to help with her skin issues, and little shy girl Mouse the toy hoarder enjoys any treat she gets as long as all the attention is not on her! A few of Kara's pups posed, too, although they just watch mama enjoy them for now. 🥰

We will definitely be trying out some of their Bone Broth Toppers soon, too - what a great way to get our dogs superfood blends and hydration in the form of every dog's favorite - a food topper! WE'LL be going through them super quick, of course, but we love that for the average home, they're good for up to 3 months. Nothing makes mealtime more enjoyable for dogs than a good bone broth topper and we're impressed by the nutritional denseness!
