We are grateful for all of YOU supporters!

‼️❕ With SO many mouths to feed (over 100 adult dogs in rescue right now! 😮 plus dozens of puppies) and the vast majority of our rescued dogs at 40 lbs and more, we are once again running low on dog food at the same time we're taking in some surrenders with extra medical needs. We're asking for any help anyone can give! Dog food prices are SKYROCKETING and we try for the best balance of quality food that we can get. WE GO THROUGH over 200 LBS of dog food PER DAY!

✨ Life would sure be easier if we only took in small, floofy dogs who ate half cup of food a day and needed no medical care and got adopted out in days, but that's not how rescue works in our minds. Many of our dogs wait months or sometimes even years for their forever home, and feeding and caring for them in the meantime is a huge expense (we provide food to our fosters to feed our dogs with). Many of them have already lived life on the streets and come to us malnourished and it's extra important to make sure they get the best balance of nutrition and cost we can provide.

(**Pending Adoption as long as he does fine with the cat!**) GRAHAM is looking for his Valentine! 🥰

This adorable little 4 year old Norwich Terrier is a sweetheart who is a local owner surrender who wasn't able to keep him due to personal reasons. He loves people, is good with school-aged kids and older, other dogs, and cats. We got him fully vetted except his neuter which he's scheduled for and is included in his adoption fee even if he's adopted before. He's a little 12 lb lapful of love! ❤️

He did great for his grooming makeover from A Spa 4 Paws - thanks for getting him and his friend GIGI in on short notice for us the other day! 🐾

Our volunteers have been SWAMPED so we'd like to introduce you to these newest recent young surrenders we haven't even gotten a chance to list on PetFinder or our website yet!

🐾 Litter of 6 German wirehaired pointer mixes with whiskers who are just so cute!
🐾 2 adorably UNIQUE looking Chow-rotti (?) mix pups
🐾 2 more that we hesitate to even post bc we know we'll get buried - Cookie and Sprinkles, who look to be Aussie Golden type mix females (we do have several applications still in process for Cookie, we had her listed on PF but had to put the listing on hold bc so many apps! but as of right now she and her AWW-inspiring sister are still available)

👉 They'll all be going up on PetFinder and our website ASAP, but our social media followers once again get first chance at our new arrivals! ✨

ℹ️ Our general young puppy adoption fee is $500 and includes vetting to age as well as their SPAY/NEUTER and microchip after they're 6 months at our vet - plus $60 positive training rebate, and lifetime support of the rescue.

✨ 𝗡𝗼𝘄 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗱𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗰𝘂𝗲𝗱 𝗣𝘂𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗟𝗮𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗼𝗼𝗱𝗹𝗲𝘀! ✨
They're actually all very SWEET and friendly and have been socialized and we're thankful for that and the better chances of a great home that gives them! 🥰

🐾 PLEASE keep in mind our priority has been getting them cleaned, groomed as we can, vetted, and into safe and comfortable foster homes, so the pictures you see in this post may not be the most flattering representation of them! Some are before grooms, some are after grooms that had to be tighter than we might have wanted to do. Some are being treated for minor medical things. Our fosters are WONDERFUL and do an awesome job taking care of the dogs, but photography isn't always their strong suit and it's a lot for our volunteers to gather and ask for updated pics from all the fosters. And this was an urgent very short-notice ask for them. So use your imagination and note the important things like type of coat, size, and color and imagine how they'll flourish once in your home!

🐾 These guys are mainly under a year with a few exceptions of a few who must have been breeders and are 6 or 7 estimated by our vet. About half and half of under 20 lbs and over 20 lbs (but 40 lbs is the biggest), and about half and half poodley, curly coat vs flatter wiry, lower-maintenance coat. 3 boys, 7 girls. We've got a few altered already and the rest on the schedule - it's included in their adoption fee at our vet even if adoption happens before that appt.

SOS 🆘🛟🎉🐾❤️ PUPPIES

2 local litters of pups are in need of surrender and we need fosters (eventually adopters but for the time being foster or foster to adopt) they are all roughly 9 weeks old. We’re looking to place them in groups of 2 so will need minimally 5 homes. They will be vetted and checked out completely by our vets.
Litter one is German shepherd/wirehaired terrier and boxer mix
(8 pups)

Litter 2 is chow chow rotti mix maybe (2 pups)

❗️❗️EDIT: DOGS IN HAND as of 4:25pm, and badly need baths beyond vetting etc we'll be getting them! ❗️❗️
We've just NOW gotten the opportunity to save 10 more Labradoodle puppies (plus 6 2 year old breeding parents) from dispatch because they didn't sell from the puppy mill breeder. 😞 It's a very tough situation, and always a "come and get them this minute because we will probably get spooked 3 hours from now and change our mind and just take care of them ourselves" but a no-brainer for us to take in these surrenders vs them being killed instead. They're been really sweet and nice dogs who deserve the great homes we will find them! 🥰
We will say that most of the last batch were much more socialized and friendly (with a couple exceptions and more shy ones) than other puppy mill puppies we've gotten in the past. We still have to get them all vetting since they have none, but at least the last group seemed family socialized, which is a huge blessing.

URGENT HELP NEEDED 🛟🛟🛟🛟💰🆘

Last week our friends at Polk animal shelter had 2 dogs -Marvin and Merida -in dire straits. Both had major leg injuries and were going to be euthanized without a rescue to help them get treatment. Even though we had already spoken up for multiple local dogs we couldn’t let these southern pups suffer and we pulled them to one of our vets in the south. We also have a foster for Marvin in Georgia as he will need treatment for heartworm once his leg is healed.

Marvin the rotti mix has a laundry list of problems and is in really bad shape

He had almost no red blood cells and is very anemic from a heavy worm infection. The vet never saw such low numbers and have a dog be alive

He is heartworm positive and cannot have surgery til his red blood cells regenerate

We have him in foster this week and hopefully he will be able to have surgery Jan 2. He has a long road to recovery

Merida is also worm infested and has undergone deworming and cannot have surgery til her general health is better. She is boarding at the vet.

This will be very involved and we need you and your help to get these pups better. Merida is heartworm negative and can come up after the holidays and needs a hospital foster locally

We've gone through all the applications and there's still a few of the LABRADOODLE PUPPIES left that we rescued from the puppy mill a week and a half ago! These are all SMALLER doodles. We've got some 4 month olds (1 female and some males) and several of the 10 month old males. All are brown/dark brown except one of the 10 month olds, who is black.

They've all been safely in foster now for almost 2 weeks and have been checked out and have first shots and are being wormed and gotten meds etc, so are ready for adoption. (Two 10-month doodles had to be groomed down to a very close coat - and the 4 month olds' coats are all still less floofy)

We'll likely get BURIED in applications again (we have not even listed them on PetFinder yet), so if interested, apply right away. Adoption fee, which includes neuter/spay and microchip, as well as vetting to age, a positive training rebate, and support of the rescue, is $500 for the 10 month olds and $600 for the 4 month olds.

In this season of thankfulness and counting our blessings 💗, we're SO grateful for the supportive community of professionals who help SHDR with our mission to save lives! 🙏🐾

Today it's all about GROOMERS! When we get local surrenders, it's sometimes the case that owners have struggled in one way or another for some time. While some come to the decision to surrender their dog perhaps a bit TOO lightly, some wait too long until after they're no longer able to adequately care for their dogs for one reason or another. In these cases, we often get especially small dogs who are emergency cases and matted to the point of physical harm and pain to them. And ALWAYS we have local groomers who selflessly answer our call for emergency appointments and often even donate their expertise or discount. 🫶

🐾🛟🆘 LABRADOODLE PUPPIES- fosters and fosters-to-adopt needed NOW! (like, right this minute!)
4.5 month olds & 10 month olds

We occasionally will hear from someone with a connection with the puppy mill farms and hear of unsold puppies who are about to be "dispatched" since they're past the chubby 2 month old stage and "aren't worth maintaining any longer.", and they don't discount, they just get rid of them. We ABHOR these puppy mills and everything they stand for, BUT cannot stand aside when we are given the opportunity to help save lives of pups who didn't ask for where they were born and who we can find wonderful forever homes for. And when the call comes, it's move right then or delay and risk the loss of the puppies.

Having said that - we have just an hour ago (in the southern tier)took in several litters of chocolate labradoodles, some 4.5 months old and some 10 months old. We have them in hand and they're on their way back to Rochester and we need our community's help now!
We'll be getting them all vetted to age and neutered/spayed but right now need homes for them to be safe and loved while we look for forever homes for them.

Please pass the word and apply now if you're willing to foster a couple of these pups, or might even be interested in a foster-to-adopt, or know of someone who might be. They're cute as can be, with less of a floofy coat and a little more labby coat.
