Quiet no more!

You may have noticed we’ve been a little…..absent. I wish I could say it’s because “the dog ate my homework”!
The truth is, life happens. And sometimes it’s hard. Starting and growing a business is hard. Transitioning through life stages is hard.
And the past few months have been, well, kind of “ruff”!
The second 100-year flood in just 10 years hit our community and surrounding communities. Thankfully our home only had groundwater and some extra “yuck”, but even that causes a disruption. The dog treat kitchen became overflow storage. And as you may recall from our efforts to donate to our furry friends who were displaced, we had family who were not as fortunate when the river raged out of its banks and they’ve taken up temporary, part-time residence in our home. (One bright spot- we love having family and an extra furry friend around!)
Throw in some short get-away weekends, moving our helper/daughter/sister back to college, illness and sick dogs, and the dog treat business took a back burner.
BUT…..our reasons for doing this have not changed and we’re very excited to get back to meeting new furry friends, saying hello to familiar pups, growing work and life skills, and trying new things!! The mixers are all ready to go!
We’ll be at some area vendor fairs in the upcoming weeks, we’ll be able to hit the Rock Rapids farmers’ market on Monday, and we’re gathering ideas for holiday treats!
We can’t wait to get back at making dog treats and giving back! Let us know what you’d like to see! If you emailed us or messaged us, check your inbox and junk email in the upcoming week. We’re working on a special promotion!
Until then, come see us Saturday in Alvord at The Church flea market and vendor fair, the farmers’ market on Monday or comment on this post if your pups need a treat refill!

Lainee’s Doggy Deli is all set up at the farmers market with Bella treats, Winston treats and Buster biscuits. The biscuits are a crunchy, yet soft treat made with spent brewers grain from Rock River Brewing Co. The barley in this grain gives the treat a nutty flavor and the added honey makes it just sweet enough!

Thank you all SO MUCH for the overwhelming support and love after this segment aired on KELOLAND news! We've enjoyed working to build this business and we've both learned a lot!
One of the questions asked in the interview was, "What's been most meaningful about starting this business?" Aside from Lainee getting to meet all the new fur friends, it's been most meaningful for me to see Lainee's growth and increased confidence. It wasn't that long ago that it was difficult for her to fill the molds. And talk to strangers at vendor fairs - forget it!! Now she looks at pictures of dogs on their phones!!
AND - she talked on camera for this piece!!!
But none of this would be possible without the incredible support in all forms and the many packages of dog treats purchased.

Winner announcement!
By random draw, the winners of the treat jar filled with treats are Robbie Sterler Korthals and Kari Jurrens. We'll get these delivered later today or this evening. Sara Sprock is the winner of the treat jar display box, treat jar filled with treats, dog-themed kitchen towel and sticker.
But the real winners are the fur friends who will benefit from all of the treat orders the past few days.
We have purchased dog food, treats, toys, pet beds, kennel mats, collars and leashes to be distributed to pet owners who were displaced from their homes in the recent flooding. If you know a pet owner who was impacted by the flooding and could benefit, send us a message! We would love to get them sone of these needed items AND some Lainee's Doggy Deli treats!

More treat orders going out the door this afternoon and helping supporting our donation drive to fur friends impacted by flooding in our area!
We’re still taking orders for delivery on Monday! We can deliver to our friends in nearby communities as well!
Did you know Lainee makes her own thank you cards and signs her name to each one? It’s one way we work on time management and fine motor skills!

Giveaway and donation update:
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for the overwhelming response to the video and our efforts to help those fur friends who have been impacted by flooding throughout NW Iowa.
We will be drawing for the small and large 4th of July/patriotic themed bandannas this morning. Tomorrow we will draw the winner of a treat jar - filled with treats of course. Saturday we will draw the winner of a second treat jar. Sunday we will draw the winner of a treat jar and a decorative treat jar box, a dog-themed towel and a sticker. Keep sharing the video and tagging other fur friend owners!
In the meantime, we will continue taking orders for treats with proceeds benefitting fur friends who have been displaced from their homes and/or who lost pet supplies in the floods. Please send us a private message if you know a dog owner who lost their fur friend's favorite toys, doggy bed, leash, etc. or of any groups/organizations assisting in collecting pet supplies for flood victims in any of the nearby areas impacted by flooding (Rock Valley, Spencer, Hawarden, or others) or for those in shelters.
We've already purchased a large bag of dog food to split up into Ziploc bags, a case of soft dog food, biscuits and Greenies. We'll go shopping for toys and leashes too!

“Guest Entrepreneur” at Lainee’s Doggy Deli this afternoon.
Our friend Augie Blauwet baked cookies this morning and planned a lemonade stand with proceeds going to River Valley Players for the upcoming production of Moana Jr (of which he is a cast member!).
Guests at the lemonade stand (set up on the corner of South Marshall and 10th Street in Rock Rapids) can also get a free treat for thier pups!
Stop by, get a regular or pink lemonade and a chocolate chip cookie and get a free doggy treat for your fur friend.
Purchase a bag of dog treats for $5- Winston treats, Bella treats, Buster biscuits, or doggie donuts- for $5 and get a free cookie or lemonade and we’ll make the donation to the cause!

We have treats leftover from our vendor fair outing Saturday and to thank you for your support, we’ll help you be your dog’s hero with a discount on treats.
Bags of 10 small bones for $5 in Winston (sweet potato/applesauce) and Bella (peanut butter/pumpkin) Treats.
Bags of 5 Buster Biscuits $4 (made from brewer’s grains from Rock River Brewing Co. in Rock Rapids/peanut butter).

We're excited to move forward with regular baking days, having treats available at local businesses, being at vendor fairs and farmers markets this summer, building skills, creating awareness and sharing the stories of amazing other-abled entrepreneurs we've met along our journey!

Lainee's Doggy Deli offers baked dog treats made with wholesome, clean ingredients. Lainee is an other-abled young adult who makes the treats by hand!
