Green River shelter supervisor keeps defending gas chamber. Please ask Green River Animal Control to STOP gassing our pets!

Two of the three gas chambers in the United States still used for euthanasia at animal shelters are in Wyoming, one in Green River and the other in Evanston. And those who say it’s a cruel and inhumane way to dispose of animals want the gas chambers shut down.

We held a peaceful protest outside Green River Animal Control yesterday (February 22, 2024), urging them to stop gassing our pets to death immediately! According to the city's open public records, they are still gassing the majority of their animals in the gas chamber. During the city council meeting on January 4, 2022, Mayor Rust mentioned directing the staff to proceed with the issue. In Feb 2022, according to Reed Clevenger, the city administrator, the city of Green River will be implementing an immediate stop to all gas chamber euthanasia. On September 6, 2022, Police Chief Tom Jarvie said during the council meeting that the police department was in the process of removing the gas chamber. But now, after more than two years, the Green River Animal Control is still killing animals in the gas chamber. This cruelty must stop immediately!! Please call Green River Animal Control and your council members to urge them to stop killing our animals in the gas chamber. No animal deserves to be gassed to death!

Hopefully, Evanston city council members and Mayor Williams will consider eliminating the cruel gas chamber from the Evanston Animal Control facility soon because our homeless pets do not deserve slow and painful death in a gas chamber.

Evanston animal control kills homeless pets in a gas chamber.
Please join us today at 5:30 pm at Evanston city hall conference room for a presentation on "Euthanasia via Gas Chamber at city shelters."
Gas chambers are inherently cruel to animals and dangerous for staff, volunteers and visitors. In Wyoming, Rock Springs removed its gas chamber in 2020, and Green River is currently transitioning.
Now Evanston must ban this cruel, inhumane method of euthanizing homeless animals.

We have exhausted every effort of trying to get help for removing the inhumane gas chamber from the Green River Animal Control facility during the whole year of 2021. The whole year went by and nothing changed for these unfortunate pets at the animal control facility. We have written emails, wrote letters to the editor, had personal and telephone conversations with the city council members, mayor Rust and also Green River Animal Control officers. We also gave a presentation at the Green River City Council meeting to educate about this horrific practice of euthanasia. But In spite of strong public opposition the Green River City Council and Green River Animal Control decided to continue the use of this cruel gas chamber.
We don’t know what else we can do to bring positive change in our community to help these animals!
So we decided to get together and collectively request the Green River City Council to help us remove this torture device from the Green River Animal Control facility. The purpose of this peaceful protest is to educate and bring awareness in our community that nothing humane happens to our pets inside of a gas chamber. There is strength in numbers so if you believe in our compassion for our unadoptable pets then please join us in this peaceful protest!
PLEASE NOTE: This is a peaceful protest, we are trying to bring change in our system with love in our hearts for everyone, even for the people who are caught up in the system. So please try to be polite during the protest to everyone even if they are not onboard with us on this journey. We believe in being nonviolent in our words, action and tone.

Please join us to show support to ban gas chamber from Green River Animal Control on September 21, 2021 at 7pm at Green River City Council meeting at the city hall. (50 E, 2nd North Street, Green River). We will be giving a short presentation to educate people about the gas chamber euthanasia and respectfully ask the city council to help us remove this torture box from the Green River Animal Control. Nothing humane happens inside of these dark gas boxes. In spite of strong public opposition Green River Animal Control continues to use this horrific method of euthanasia.
Our unadoptable pets have already gone through miserable lives of neglect and abuse in the past, they do not deserve a horrific death by suffocation. There is strength in numbers, so if you believe unadoptable shelter pets and feral cats should not be euthanized by gas chambers, please show your presence in the audience. Please wear a white shirt if you have one, to show solidarity in numbers with the cause.
