FERN NATURE, brindle bitch, 1939, by My Laddie x Lady Gangdrew by Gangster.
If you have done any studying of classic pedigrees in greyhound racing, you probably recognize the breeding here of Fern Nature. She being the full sibling to the immortal and hugely influential Rural Rube---who was such a great racer, they named an award after him. He was every bit as great a sire, afterwards.
Nevertheless, his little sister was more than capable of carrying on with family traditions, being a major stakes winner at both the 550 and 660 yard distance---and having won 3 Flagler Derbies and assorted other stakes championships. She was such an accomplished and splendid athlete, that she was inducted into the NGA Hall of Fame, despite having left no descendants (and I seem to recall she was somehow ill fated, and if someone could elaborte or correct me if that were not the case, it would be much appreciated).
