Congrats to Ryan Cowherd and Banks on their 98 Prize III NA today. Some hiccups with recall and lack of interest in bumpers took some points away but he's got loads of bird drive and will be a phenomenal bird dog.
Congrats to Karl Kramer and Leia on her 100 NA Prize II today. I had the honor of apprentice judging her test and they have one helluva dog. On to hunting season!
D-litter pups are 3 1/2 weeks old and took advantage of the nice weather to explore outside for the first time.

3 littermates from our C-litter got together for some training and evaluation today. All are looking great with just some polishing needed to be ready for their NA tests in August.
Whiskey is a rockstar all set and ready, Banks needs to work on building interest in bumpers, and Fenix just needs to polish her track. All have loads of potential with strong noses, extreme cautiousness around birds and naturally steady to flush.

This is Poppy's first litter but Dude produces some phenomenal dogs like our girl Fenix. If this litter turns out anything like her, and it should, you won't want to miss out.
Fenix is such a phenomenal pup. She sure is showing that she inherited the best of her parents. She's got the spunky, driven attitude and cooperation we were looking for. Standing off birds a country mile with her strong nose, steady to flush, natural retrieve drive, and fearless in the water at just under 8 months old.

This litter will produce a mixture of brown and black pups. They will be highly cooperative dogs with natural retrieve drive, great coats, that should be quick maturing. Tucker received his 204 prize I at 21 months of age. Voodoo was successfully pointing grouse and retrieving ducks her first fall at 6 months of age. She is on track to be UT tested in 2025.

Made it home from another marathon weekend. 13 hours round trip to apprentice at the Appalachian valley NAVHDA spring test. Worked with a great judging team, met some great people, and watch several different breeds and levels of performance. Experienced some celebration and some heartbreak and disappointment.
So many people to thank but the top one has to be Melissa Bozelak . She supports me on my adventures and pours her heart and soul into everything we do in our family. Case in point, this miracle woman is in the midst of an impromptu 4 day, 2000 mile round trip to south Georgia with all 5 kids to drop Voodoo off for breeding. Happy mothers day babe! You make our world possible.
Finished my first NAVHDA test weekend as an apprentice. Thanks to the Mid-Ohio Chapter of Navhda for being gracious hosts and putting on a great test with a large, efficient group of volunteers. Thanks as well to the patient and encouraging judging team Sean Eaton , Chris Hall, and Herb Christian that welcomed me in the fold and taught me a great deal. I'm seeing a fair number of posts from pudelpointer people commenting on their dogs near 12 o'clock tail set.
From the FCI breed standard:
TAIL: Set-on in an even and unbroken line with the croup. Tail straight; should not be carried steeply erected. Covered with rough hair, without fringe.
If you want a high tail, get a setter or pointer where it's breed standard. Just my opinion of course.
Fenix has been enjoying her fun runs in the field. She's got an incredible natural search pattern. She's gonna be something special folks!
Got a heck of a deal on a display model today. Went in dead set on getting a Benelli 828u but picked this up and it just felt too good. Saved myself about half the expected price too! The training birds, grouse, and woodcock better watch out this year!
With the new truck had to come a new license plate since the old plate was in Melissa's name.

Introducing Packmaster's Carries The Flame (Fenix). The final two of her siblings went to their new homes today. This litter has had exactly the type of temperament we were hoping to produce, calm easy going, engaged and confident. We can't wait to see how all of them develop. Most of her siblings are only a few hours away on the east side of Michigan and Windsor, Ontario, one is very close by and the farthest lives in southern Indiana
Tyler will be training and handling Fenix in her NA test this fall while Joe focuses on Voodoo and Phin's UT and Frannie's prep for the invitational.
Wild bird season is closed in MI now so it is time to put the focus back on training. Frannie's invitational entry form has been submitted . No turning back now. September in IOWA here we come.
I spare my back and site in the floor with the dogs on their backs between my legs.
The message of this post is incredible important. If you can't touch your dog everywhere or handle it without wrestling an alligator the problem lies with your training and conditioning of behaviors.
Frannie's first hunt post whelp. 4 bird contacts with 1 in the bag. It's nice hunting the king without those pesky timberdoodles around. 😂 .
6 week pupdate-today the pups were visited by the Kramer family who will be taking home a female in a few short weeks. They also received their first vaccinations, microchip, and started their second round of deworming. Crate introduction will begin this week and adventure walks with 209 primer shots at a distance will continue. We'll be watching for differentiating personality characteristics over the next week or so to help us decide on owner matches.
C-litter is 5 weeks old. They are getting their teeth, got some new collars, and are able to go on short adventures outside. They are socializing with the big dogs and lots of visitors. Weaning is going smoothly and they are eating moistened kibble.
Consuming Michael Ellis content is one of our highest recommendations to our puppy buyers. He explains, theory, practicality, and physiology of how a dog works. Using this information from the very start to set rules, boundaries and expectations with your pup and being consistent will provide you with the best dog that it genetically can be. Human leadership is critical to success.
C-litter Embark DNA screening samples are headed to the lab today. We should get results back between Christmas and the New Year.
