Dr. Scudder and her team have been working with Quinn's owner in our Reproduction Program. We had the pleasure of meeting Quinn's very first litter today.

Her pups have big jobs already! One will be an Evidence and Firearm Detection K-9. Another will be a Cardiac Alert Service Dog for a little girl with heart issues. The rest will be hunting dogs and all will be beloved pets. As you can tell, Quinn is one proud Mom! 🐾💚🐾

Meet Benson! He is a 6 month old Golden Retriever puppy, known for sometimes ingesting non-edible objects he finds. While surgery wasn't required to successfully evict the foreign object, he needed some help to get all the little pieces out. I'm sure he is feeling much better now!

Can you guess the foreign object in Benson's radiographs?
Post your guesses below! 🐾🩺

**Happy Update!**
Keeper had his final puppy appointment today and he's still living up to his name. It has been an absolute joy to watch him grow over the last 16 weeks. His humans have done an amazing job of stepping up to help him when he was fragile and needed around-the-clock care. We love you, Bud! Come visit us again soon!

In honor of our fallen soldiers & canines who served and lost their lives, we ask that you take a moment this Memorial Day and give thanks for their heroic efforts. Many of our canine heroes were family pets just like our own. Gone but never forgotten! 🇺🇸

Meet Bella! She is a 5 year old standard poodle that is currently being fostered by a wonderful client of ours. Bella just underwent heartworm treatment at RVVH and she's nearly ready for her forever home. She came to the rescue after having a few litters of puppies. As soon as the last litter was weaned, she was kept outside in a kennel until she was surrendered and likely not given any heartworm prevention prevention, which is how we believe she ended up with heartworms.

Bella is an absolute sweetheart. She likes kids and other dogs! She is very well mannered, but timid - especially around strangers. She does experience separation anxiety when left alone, but she is crate trained. Someone who is retired or working from home would be best for her. She is most comfortable with women, but does warm up to men over time. She knows basic commands like "sit" and "down." She is still learning, but comes immediately when called.

If you are interested in more information about adopting Bella, please reach out and we can connect you to her foster Mom.

FOUND BEST FRIEND!

We found this little Lamb Chop in our parking lot this week and we'd like nothing more than to reunite her with her best friend. As you can see, she appears very well loved and we believe someone is missing her! We are keeping her safe in Gypsy's bed until she is reunited.

Noticing a rash on your pet's abdomen? Spring is the season for black fly or no-see-ums bug bites. These bug bites are generally non-painful and resolve on their own in 2-3 days. To limit bug bites, we recommend a pyrethrin based pet safe bug spray (often a horse fly spray works well), sprayed on the hairless areas (often the belly or abdomen) daily before going outside. You can also use a T-shirt or pajamas that cover this area. These bugs are seasonal and mainly out for a few weeks in the spring. If the rash is not going away after 2-3 days, seems painful, or if you have concerns, please call the clinic at 616-863-9390 to schedule an exam.
*For cats: use spray cautiously at low doses only if needed. For more info please see link.

May is "Chip Your Pet" Month!

If your pet is already microchipped, there are just three things to remember:

1. Ask your veterinarian to scan your pet’s microchip at least once per year to make sure the microchip is still functioning and can be detected!
2. Make sure the microchip is registered
3. If you’ve moved, or if any of your information (especially your phone number) has changed, make sure you take a few minutes to update your microchip registration in the manufacturer’s database.
