The AEC is looking to add more urgent care time. With our current workload and staffing we are often required to limit incoming capacity to "critical only" or "full deferral" which is very frustrating for our staff and our clients.

We want to help everyone and have the facility to allow for this, however, we just do not have the staff.

This could be a great opportunity for a local doctor or technician interested in more exposure to ER medicine.

Our goal will be to have 2 doctors on most shifts and could often support 3 doctors, however, like most of our profession, we are short on staff. A benefit of having day time technicians work in the ER is they bring a skill set ER does not use as much and they can get extra exposure to ER and critical cases that are helpful in their normal practice...same goes for veterinarians.

A few technicians that wanted to work 2 shifts a month on Saturday or Sunday would make a huge difference in the wait times and even availability of if the clinic can accept patients on those super busy times. We typically have 3-5 technicians on during the weekend, so they would not be alone dealing with cases.

We have a building that is 10,000 square feet and now have the kinks ironed out.

The building has IDEXX labs in house, IDEXX digital radiology, SonoSite ultrasound, 2 surgery suites, 4 treatment tables, 8 exam/consult rooms, 3 anesthesia machines, state of the art anesthesia monitoring machines and in house blood bank make providing care efficient and easy.

STAFF PET kennel makes it easy to bring your dog to work.

Our record system was revamped recently with much more templating to allow for faster record writing and preparation of treatment sheets.

If you are a veterinary technician or veterinarian interested in the ER please contact us!

Herbie the Lovebug helped save a life by donating his blood to another feline in need! Herbie and the recipient both have a rare blood type (Feline type B) in cats seen in roughly 1% of the population. Transfusing a different blood type in this case could cause a potentially severe and fatal transfusion reaction. Luckily Herbie belongs to one of our Dr.'s here at AEC. He has had his eyes surgically removed due to medical reasons earlier in his life, but this doesn't stop him from seeing all the good he can do by helping us save other pets! Thank you Herbie! 🥰🐾

We have wonderful news about our staff. Two employees had babies today! We are so happy for them, however, this does mean it will affect services for our clients. Even with local veterinarians picking up extra shifts and many part time veterinary technicians, receptionists and kennel attendants, we will not be able to see as many patients as we have been. We are working to see as many as possible.

This weekend all the other regional emergency hospitals were on diversion and we understand how stressful it is to not be able to get immediate care. Often doing drop off and consulting over the phone as clients will do with their primary veterinarian will be the least disruptive and stressful to pet owners. We are doing everything we can and pulling every resource we have to try and keep up the pace, thank you in advance for your understanding and compassion to our staff who are putting in extra time away from home to help cover the need.

AEC is saddened to announce the loss of Dr. Dawn Thrall. She will always be remembered in our clinic as a feisty, caring, and dedicated doctor. As wonderful of doctor and fellow staff member she was, she was even more a fierce friend. We will miss her dearly. We appreciate the publics patience as Our staff takes time to grieve. We send Dr. Kevin Thrall and family our deepest sympathies and condolences.

COVID POLICY CHANGE:

We are excited to report we will be letting general clients back into the building. We have been letting the owner's of pets who are critical in to our consult rooms, however, our lobby will now be open.

As the area's only veterinary hospital that is open at night and weekends, we must continue to take extra precautions to keep our staff safe. We have had to close and have had to limit caseload due to staff illness. This effort is to keep staff from being required to quarantine due to exposure to COVID.

We will continue to follow the CDC and WCHD recommendations. As of writing this, that means when social distancing is not possible then masks are recommended. In our clinic this means we will require staff and clients to wear face masks for interactions. We feel this is a small sacrifice and hope that soon we can go back to the old normal.

We request that anyone who has had symptoms consistent with COVID or any unvaccinated person that has had exposure to someone with COVID within the last 5 days not enter our clinic. We can continue to do curbside care for your pet, however, please let us know the situation so that we can provide the appropriate protective equipment for our staff.

We appreciate your help to keep our staff safe. In return, our staff will also do their part to not expose our clients by not coming to work if feeling ill, checking temperature prior to work, and observing all quarantine and testing recommendations from the CDC if they are exposed to COVID.

Press Release
12/29/2021

The Animal Emergency Clinic of Rockford will be moving location from January 5th to 7th. This will cause disruption of emergency veterinary care in the greater Rockford area and all animals will need to be seen by other emergency clinic. This will require owners to drive their pets to Janesville, Madison, Crystal Lake or Aurora.

We want to help spread the word about the move so that people can know to bring their pets to a new location after January 7th, to be able to know about the service disruption and help alleviate stress.

The clinic will have directions to call other ERs along with phone numbers during the move dates. If during the day, then the owner should contact their veterinarian. If after hours, they should call the other ERs during this disruption of service.

The move is needed due to the overwhelming amount of veterinary emergency and long-term care cases seen along with significant space issues in our current 20-year-old building. The new building is nearly 10,000 square feet, has 6 exam rooms, one consultation room and 1 comfort room. It also has 2 surgery suites, 17 runs, a larger isolation ward, and very importantly with our current state of the world…a very large waiting room and all rooms will be large enough to accommodate social distancing with at least 1 owner pending the severity of COVID surgency.

The pandemic has taken a large toll on many aspects of our lives, and veterinary medicine is no exception long wait times, staff shortages and supply issues have been brutal. Since the beginning of the pandemic, we have nearly doubled out staff and have increased hours from night only to being open 24 hours a day except for the 10 hours on Friday from 8a to 6p.

The old address:
4236 Maray Drive, Rockford, IL, 61107

The new address:
7145 Spring Creek Rd, Rockford, IL 61107
Across from Francesco’s Restaurant near cross streets of Spring Creek Rd and Perryville Rd

Phone number remains the same: 815-229-7791

01/03/2022

Covid related staff shortages have struck again! Please be patient with the staff as they are working as hard as they are able with the case load they have. Please be prepared to find an alternative. It pains us to do so but we are only human and can only do what we can do. Thank you for your understanding .
