When Is a Pet Considered a Senior?

This depends on if the pet is a cat or a dog. If you are adopting a dog, they are generally considered “senior” around 7 years of age, though this also varies by species and breed. Larger dog breeds tend to age more quickly than smaller ones, while cats can live well into their teens and even twenties. Despite their “senior” label, many older pets still have years of life and love to share.

Can you open your heart to this sweet senior?

Winston is a true gentle soul. At 14.5 years old, he moves a little slower due to some weakness in his back legs, but he loves his walks. He also gets bursts of energy and will toss a toy around for a minute or two. He has some trouble with stairs, so might need to be confined to the ground floor for his safety.

During his stay here, he has been treated for an ear infection and received a dental to clean up his pearly whites. He would do well in any home. He likes other dogs, would likely just ignore cats (he ignores the chickens in his foster home’s back yard), and would do well with gentle children who respect his age. He was a well-loved pet in his former home and will really make a sweet companion to someone who wants to take a chance on a senior guy!
