Alright Facebook friends we are needing your help. This sweet guy needs help finding his forever home.

This is Bernie. He was rescued from an abandoned house with no electricity. He was thin and covered in bloody mange. Despite all this, he is an affectionate dog that loves to be around people and other dogs. He will kennel on demand, sit, stay, and enjoys going for a car ride. He will hog food but is not food aggressive. He does have minor fear issues, as apparently he had not spent much or any time outside, so grass was new to him along with wind movements and unseen loud noises.

He seems to be smart and picks up on new commands quickly, yet is sensitive to discipline and remembers even minor corrections for a long time. Hence, Bernie requires a gentle approach with redirection rather than harsh corrections.

We would like to find a home within 60 miles or so from Rockport, so that he can occasionally be reunited with his two best friends. Also, if his new owner is inexperienced, the foster parents will pay for y’all to attend a training program.

Happy 15-year Anniversary!
15 years ago, we purchased a cute little grooming shop called Becky Lous Doggie Hair Doos located in a tiny 300sqft building on North Magnolia St. We changed the name to Salty Dog Grooming Salon and opened our doors on October 20th 2009. Our intentions were to work for about 6 months then move on to Southeast Asia to pursue a business in the scuba/ hospitality industry. Little did we know how vastly our plans would change.
Rockport welcomed us with open arms and we fell in love with the community. After a time, we realized we couldn’t imagine building a life anywhere else. The next several years passed by in a blur.
Salty Dog Grooming Salon was growing and by 2011 we moved our little business to a warehouse space off of Market St. directly across the street from our current location. We expanded our services to include doggie daycare and boarding at this new location.
Another couple years flew by and by the spring of 2015 it was obvious we were going to need more room and a place we could truly call our own, the only question was where and how.
Larry Barre, the founder of Barre Electric had recently retired and was looking to rent out his building on the corner of Market and Hickory (our current home). Somehow, we were able to convince Larry to sell us his shop, and after an extensive renovation over the summer and fall, became the new Salty Dog Pet Resort.
We completed the new boarding sweets just in time for the 2015 Thanksgiving holiday. In fact, for that holiday we were actually checking guests in across the street at our old location and having them drop off at the new facility, simply because we hadn’t had time to move all the computers over yet. It was well orchestrated chaos.
Each year since Salty Dog has continued to grow and every year we try to complete one big project to improve the experience of our customers and guests.
Now after almost a year of construction we are proud to announce the completion an expansion of Salty Dog which added another 2000sqft of indoor space, 11 play yards and an additional 30 large suites that also includes 5 VIP suites just in time for the holidays. Over the next couple months, you will be seeing some even more exciting changes happening at Salty Dog.
We want to thank everyone who has been a part of our Salty Dog family over the years which includes our customers and our team. We wouldn’t be here without our amazing customers or our amazing team giving it their all everyday.
