This dog showed up at our animal hospital wandering as a stray. The dog is very friendly though, so we're afraid someone is missing it. If you can verify details about the dog (age, gender, neuter status, identifying markers) and provide some sort of proof of ownership (pictures of you with the dog, previous vet records, etc), then we'd be happy to reunite this dog with its owner!

We are exited to be supporting Peacemakers Rocky Mount Toy Store outreach again this year! Peacemakers seeks to empower families by providing a holiday shopping experience for parents in need to select and wrap gifts for their children. A local organization, Peacemakers collects new, unwrapped toys with price tags still attached. Peacemakers then reprices the items at 80 percent off. Invitations are sent to local low-income families (based on school social worker and local agency referrals), and those families come to the “store” to shop on two days in December. There are also free wrapping stations so parents can wrap the gifts they have purchased. As a result, parents leave with presents for their children that they have carefully selected, purchased and wrapped. Please join us in supporting this wonderful program by bringing a new, unwrapped gift with the price tag attached to our office through December 2. Look for the decorated collection box in our lobby!

This week is National Veterinary Technician Appreciation Week. Hannah (2nd from the left in the back row) is a Registered Veterinary Technician. Yakema (far left on the first row) is on her way to becoming fully licensed. A registered veterinary technician is someone that has completed a program of study at an accredited school, passed a national licensing exam, and continues to attend continuing education classes to keep his/her license in good standing. At Magnolia Grace, we enjoy taking this week to show our appreciation to all of our staff. We are providing lunch for them a couple of days this week, and a couple of gifts (one of which they are holding in the picture below!). Each staff member is holding a drawing that she made that represents a charity that has personal significance to her. At staff meeting today, each member was able to share with the group about that charity and its mission. Magnolia Grace will be making a donation to each of these charities in honor of the respective staff member.

Update from our trip! Thank you again so much to those who graciously donated for our trip to the mountains. We left on Friday morning at 7 am, and safely made it back home just before 1 am. We took a Suburban and a Silverado, each with supplies and each pulling a U-Haul trailer. It was so encouraging to travel west and see all of the trucks and trailers hauling aid. We visited a church in Spruce Pine that is serving as a warehouse for distributions that are being given out at First Baptist Church. From there we went to Stewart’s Mountain View Animal Hospital. One of Dr. Turbyfill’s former classmates in vet school was working there, and the practice owner, Dr. Stewart, is using her lobby as a distribution site for pet supplies to both Mitchell and Yancey Counties. They are also providing some basic medical care for animals in the shelters (meaning animal shelters, but also the Red Cross shelters where people are staying and keeping their pets with them). Our final stop was at a church on the East side of Burnsville. The people there were so grateful for every bit of help they are receiving. We got to meet some of the people coming in to get supplies. You could tell that the volunteers sorting and giving out supplies are exhausted after a week of doing this, and there’s a long way to go. The volunteers in Burnsville told us that they’ve been advised it will likely be 2 months before they have running water. One of the church leaders is working to see if they can get someone to come dig a well in a back part of the parking lot so that they can provide people with clean water who can get there. Please pray that they will be successful. I will post more pictures in the comments!
