🆘😞 Have you been following Gator and Maddox? These boys are very old and are essentially a hospice case at this point. We will gladly continue care as long as we can maintain their quality of life and financially support them! Here is what we can tell you about them:

Maddox is a chestnut 30+ year old QH gelding - Lab test confirmed cushings. He has DSLD, a heart murmur, and has hind weakness due to advanced DSLD and body condition. DVM recommends Equiox for pain and is now on Prascend 1 tab a day (A HUGE THANK YOU TO OUR DONORS) , vet will recheck in spring unless he isn’t improving or deteriorating. He had teeth, sheath, coggins and vaccines done.

Gator is a palomino 35+ year old gelding - SEVERELY underweight due to end stage Asthma/copd/Heaves. He is burning a lot of calories just to breathe. Unable to tolerate long distance walks/high stress environment. HOSPICE CASE DUE TO COMPRIMISED RESPIRATORY STATUS! Due to cooler temperatures he was placed on a steriod treatment (which he has positively responded to) and we will monitor closely. However, at anytime and with warmer weather in the spring he could deteriorate!
We were unable to sedate to do teeth/sheath as he was an anesthesia risk due to his condition! He is under close DVM monitoring as well.

These horses sadly were owned by someone who got bargin vet care and he was not made aware of all the issues these horses had… Also a lack of knowledge about how equine nutrition works played a role in their nutritional care. These horses require a calorie dense feed and soaked feed/fiber sources. Hay and grass are not useful for them - they require a complete feed or alternative forage that can be soaked!

Our cost to maintain this pair will be HUNDREDS of dollars a month! More than the entire rest of the farm combined.
