At Animal Medical Center, we understand that your pets are part of the family. That’s why we consider them part of our family when they’re here. For almost 30 years, pet owners in Rogers and the surrounding area have trusted their pets’ health to our veterinarian, Dr. Dwaine Dickey, and more recently, Drs. Kyle Fugett and Lindy O’Neal. We have two locations in Rogers, and offer the latest in veterinary care to better to serve you.
Pet care is not just about taking care of the emergencies and illnesses, but includes preventative medicine. We believe in working with you to create a plan surrounding nutrition, vaccination, and well-being so that your pet may live life to the fullest.
Vaccinating your pet is a simple procedure and is proven to save lives. Many diseases that were once fatal to dogs and cats are now under control due to modern vaccines. Vaccinating your pet is well worth the financial commitment.
DOG VACCINATIONS
We, at Animal Medical Center, recommend dogs to be vaccinated for:
• DAPPV: Distemper, Parvo
• Leptospirosis
• Bordetella (Kennel Cough)
• Influenza
• Rabies
Maternal antibodies begin to fade away around 12 weeks of age. So we recommend that puppies begin vaccination at 6-8 weeks of age, and continue until 16-20 weeks of age. Adult dogs should be vaccinated yearly.
CAT VACCINATIONS
We, at Animal Medical Center, recommend cats to be vaccinated for:
• FVRCP: Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Herpesvirus-1, Calicivirus, and Panleukopenia, (commonly known as Feline Distemper)
• Feline Leukemia
• Rabies
Maternal antibodies begin to fade away around 12 weeks of age. So we recommend that kittens begin vaccination at 6-8 weeks of age, and continue until 16-20 weeks of age. Adult cats should be vaccinated yearly.
WELLNESS AT ANIMAL MEDICAL CENTER
Between 1 and 6 years of age, our pets are in the prime of their lives. This is the time they venture out of adolescence into adulthood. Beginning at around age 7, your pet enters their middle age on toward senior years. During these years, pets often begin to develop diseases, common to their senior human counterparts, such as diabetes, heart disease, endocrine diseases and cancer. These diseases can go unnoticed in their early stages, and if left undetected or untreated, can put your pet’s health at risk.
PREVENTATIVE CARE/TESTING
The best approach to caring for your adult pet includes preventive testing so that:
•We can establish baseline blood values to serve as a comparison when changes occur.
•We can identify existing health problems that aren’t detected through physical exam alone.
•We can monitor progress during treatment if abnormalities are detected.
Remember, pet care is not just about taking care of the emergencies and yearly check-ups; we’ll help you plan out the best way to ensure your dog and/or cat has the longest, most trouble-free life possible.
LET'S TALK TEETH!
It’s unfortunate, but it is estimated that over 80 percent of pets have significant dental problems. Every day, we are presented with patients for routine vaccinations or other minor afflictions whose oral health is truly cause for alarm. The continual presence of bacteria and their associated toxins have a daily impact on your pet’s health. The toxins from periodontal disease are absorbed into your pet’s blood stream. If left untreated, these toxins can cause damage to the kidneys, cardiac, and brain tissues. In keeping with our preventive philosophy, we strongly recommend routine dental cleanings for your pet. Your own human dentist recommends your teeth to be cleaned every 6 months and for you to brush twice daily. For your pet, we recommend yearly dental cleanings and daily dental treats to help with tarter prevention. Let us help your pet with those pearly whites and prevent future dental issues.
