Now that we've had a little bit of a chance to recover we want to thank everyone that stopped out to see us at the Columbiana County Fair! We love seeing everyone and getting a chance to show off our wonderful ponies. We still have some room in our schedule this fall for birthday parties if that's something you're interested in please reach out to us. Or if you are having a fall festival we can possibly help you out there as well.

This video is what we call floating for horses. So we take a electric file and we level out the teeth so they don't have any sharp hooks or peaks on them that might cut the horses teeth or gums and prevent them from being able to move their jaw comfortably to chill. While there is blood on her hands at the end of this video that is from the extraction of the two molar teeth. A horse should never bleed when just floating their teeth. Rocky is fairly sedated in these videos and he does have pain medication already on board. So while he is moving around a little bit he's very very groggy.

This is a video of the dental extraction of the molars that we had to remove. Just a reminder that Rocky does have some very heavy sedation on board as well as pain medication. So while he is moving around some he really isn't feeling the extraction.

Here are some of the pictures including some very interesting pictures of how they do jaw x-rays on horses upper and lower. A before picture of his teeth and we will get an after picture probably later this week when his jaw is not so sore.

Okay so I am going to post the results of today in this post and I'm going to make a second post with the process but it is a little bit icky so if that's not something you want to see you don't have to.
*** We are very grateful to Sunny Ridge Vet and Kristen for taking their time today to look at our little man and trying to make him as comfortable as possible.
We had X-rays done of his upper and lower jaw and it is the conclusion of the vet and the dentist that at some point in his past he was probably kicked in the lower jaw which fractured it and actually kicked out his top teeth. While we could potentially take him to one of the big equine hospitals and they could re-break that jaw to fix it we don't feel, in discussing with the vet that that would be the best option for him. Partly due to his age as that would be much more difficult for him to heal from that and it would be quite frankly not necessary. We are going to have a recheck at the clinic in 6 months to see how he is getting along with his new dental work and then we will make a determination from there on moving forward with the rest of his life. We did have to remove two teeth today as they were severely loose and painful. She had to take big chunks off of a lot of the teeth as they were cutting the inside of his mouth and his tongue and preventing him from chewing correctly. He also got a tetanus shot today due to the open wounds in his mouth from the teeth removal and he got his sheath cleaned while he was sedated for the procedures. He is at home resting now and he'll be on pain medication for a couple days just to keep him comfortable while those sockets close up. And hopefully we will be able to start getting some good weight packed on him as he does need quite a bit.

Hello everyone I just wanted to take a moment today and give you an update on Rocky! He is out of quarantine and happily in with some of our calm quiet ponies. He has made some friends with Trigger, Olaf and Elliot. He is enjoying some leisure Time in the field just eating grass and adjusting to his new life. We are getting his appointment scheduled so hopefully within the next month we will be getting his teeth taken care of and with any luck he will be joining us at the fair this year!
