Gilpin Grateful Acres Update

Hey there friends and neighbors! I am excited to update you on some of the things going on around here. We have had a snowy, wet winter and after some personal changes and growth over the last few months, we are all ready for some sun and forward movement ❤️☀️
The most exciting news is that the barn is 99.9% finished and almost ready for inspection. Having been sent the wrong materials initially, there have been a few things that have had to be worked around. After that, there are a couple drainage issues needing to be addressed as well as building out stalls on the inside, and reconfiguring cattle panels for the yards on the outside. I have had a lot of interest from the community in getting this project finished so i just wanted to share where I am at with the project and what the farms needs are.

To finish the barn:

-Fill dirt/gravel
-“Lumber” for the stalls(This is open to interpretation 😂 Depending on what you have laying around, we may be able to use it)

Always collecting:

-Cattle panels
-Hog panels
-Chain Link (in manageable shape)
-Metal fence posts

I am also working on getting waivers together to start accepting regular volunteers! Please let me know if you might be interested in the following opportunities:

To finish the barn:
-Moving dirt/gravel for drainage inside the barn
-Building out stalls
-Moving cattle panels

Always needing:

-Cleaning stalls (goats,sheep, llama)
-Cleaning chicken coop
-Cleaning rabbit cages
-Cleaning reptiles

I am looking at hosting an event on the property this summer so please keep watching for more information! I will be posting more frequent updates and photos and I can’t wait to see you here❤️

The last of the metal siding went on yesterday!! All closed in…BEFORE snow comes again. Now trim work, and lots of metal straps and ties. After that, final inspection and interior stall building!

The barn is momentarily at a standstill while we work through some material shortages and plan discrepancies. Despite all that, it is an absolutely gorgeous day here on the acres and the animals are all getting their fill while the grazing is still good for the gettin’!

It’s been slow going with waiting on a permit, LOTS of rain and then…excavating in the ROCKY mountains! We’re moving along with the barn though and it’s time to mix and pour some concrete! More rain is in the forecast, wish us luck! 😁

We are on the verge of starting construction on our new pole barn and we’re wondering if anyone in the area has a 16” (or larger) auger attachment for a skidsteer, mini excavator or kubota tractor? We need to set A LOT of posts pretty soon! 😁😁

We had an exciting week at Gilpin Grateful Acres! We got three new intakes, so we want to welcome Sunshine, Malibu, and Ariel (formerly Skathe). We are also very excited that we received our load of lumber for the barn! To celebrate and to welcome our new friends, all of the birds and small animals got extra toys and treaties this week. Your donation goes towards spoiling these kids and getting them into a sweet new set up. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

This is Moonbeam or “Mooney” 😁 He’s about 10 days old and he’s a Nubian. He has some “issues”, mainly it seems he’s just a little behind developmentally, and wasn’t accepted by his mother or his herd so we are going to bottle feed him and get him prepared to join our crew when he’s ready.
