Hi Everyone! My name is Rosie! I am a 7 year old pitty mix. I joined A Tail of 4 Paws Animal Rescue in May 2024. My brother Rocky and I were rescued from a neglect situation with seven other dogs in Southern Illinois. I was honestly in really bad shape...I felt horrible and didn't look much better. I had very little fur, lumps, skin infection, skin allergies and trauma induced cauliflower ear. On top of all that, I have a spinal issue that has caused some weakening in my rear end. It makes me a little wobbly when walking and some f***l incontinence.

After a few trips to the vet, I have received the best medical treatment from medicated baths, a dental, biopsy on my lumps(all benign) and medication to help me heal.

Now that I am feeling better, my true colors are shining through. I love to be outside with the sun shining on me, going for short walks or strolls in the yard, to play tug of war, and chewing on my toys. I love my humans and at times get a bit jealous when other pups are getting attention because I believe I am the princess and deserve all eyes on me. I’m not sure how I feel about cats either. I would do best in a home where I can have undivided attention of my human(s). I would love to find someone that can be home with me all day and not have to go to one of those "job" things. I do have potty accidents so having someone home can help keep me on a potty schedule has helped with my accidents.

I am up to date on my vaccines, spayed and microchipped. I love to go for short walks on a leash where I can explore the great outdoors. I’m also not a huge fan of a crate, but I love the open-air feeling of a pen – it’s my safe space.

As you can tell I have been through a lot in my former life but I am excited for my future! I am looking for someone that will love me, spoil me, pamper me, keep me on a schedule and make sure I have the best life for the rest of my years.

This is a courtesy post... if you are interested in meeting Reba, please let us know. We will put you in touch.

Meet Reba. we think she is approximately 5 years old. She appears to be a mix of Jack Russell, pointer, and part Pitbull. We transported her from a terrible life in Missouri, hoping that she would have a better life with a nice family in Illinois. Reba had an owner for the first two years of her life, and when the owner passed away, the family did not want her because she reminded them of the owner. They brought her to a horse stable where the keeper of the stable took care of her and brought her home with him but he had two other dogs and apparently they all didn't get along so he put her in a crate in the basement and that's where she lived for several years. Then he got injured and couldn't care for her at all, so he brought her to the horse stable, and she was kept in a small, dark, filthy room. Whoever was around fed her and gave her water and let her out once in a while. But there was never any consistent care. Yet her spirit was so sweet and loving, and she was happy to have visitors and thrived on any attention that she would get from people. My husband and I brought her home, and she's been living with us for a month now, and we have to say she's a very sweet and loving dog. She's perfect around the house totally housebroken, doesn't chew anything, doesn't beg for food at the table, doesn't countersurf, and is not food aggressive although she loves to eat and is totally shocked when I feed her twice a day. We use the crate for her at night, and sometimes when we are away, however, I really don't think she needs it. And she doesn't have a problem going in there when we ask her to. We've had people come in and out during the holiday season and she's a little bit shy at first but she's warms up to everybody and she loves my grandchildren who are three and five years old. We have fallen into a nice routine here she loves her walk, and she loves riding in the car. She's learning how to walk on a leash as she's never really had walks before, and she's very excited about the squirrels and the bunnies. We're trying to work with her on that, and I think that someone with patience and is good at handling dogs will be able to teach her. She has anxiety about meeting other dogs as I understand that she's been attacked several times at the barn. So she needs a little help overcoming her fear, but I think with the right owner and her getting confidence that that can be resolved. She seems to be an alpha dog, and I think she'd do best in a home with no other dog. She needs more than we can give her as we are older, senior citizens. Reba loves to play ball, fetch, tug-of-war, and she loves to run and play, so a fenced-in yard would be ideal, and a family with children would be good. Although I ask, she's would not live in a crate hours at a time as she's already been there and done that. She deserves a good life now. She loves her people and she seems very loyal.

Update 1/21.. We still need a more permanent foster or adopter starting January 5th!!! If you could please share our post, we dont want to have to board her at the vet!!! She deserves so much better.

Follow up vet appointment from yesterday 1/20.

Our vet was thrilled with her improvements in such a shirt time, now off of 2 meds and no more ear meds. She has lost 2 lbs amd her skin has never looked this good!!! She will continue for a few more weeks 2 baths a week but we will be able to reduce or stop if she continues with these improvements. Thank you to her foster moms❤️🥰, as with any foster at the beginning it's more work, getting a schedule, accidents, finding a routine.. Rosie is no different but needs a little extra love and time due to the medicine routine, the 2 baths a week, and the p**p issues. We are happy to say her p**p is looking good since last vet visit. We feel she is finally turning the corner❤️🥰 we appreciate our foster moms so much.

FOSTER OR AT MINIMUM TEMP FOSTER/BABYSITTER NEEDED BY 1/5/2024 until 1/10/2024

Update on our Rosie Girl
Just 2 weeks ago we had to urgently move Rosie to a temporary foster due to her foster mom falling ill, we are praying for her to feel better soon. We are currently looking for a more permanent foster for Rosie so we don't have to keep moving her as her current foster has regular travel for her work! So please help us find her forever home or a more permanent foster while we look for her forever home. We will need to move her at least for 2 upcoming trips 1/5 to 1/10 and 1/26 to 31st.

Just in the 2 weeks so many changes. Right before moving her we had completed the Peak Intolerance test, We did this because we were still struggling to figure out what was causing all the itching, redness, and dry skin. This test goes over all the different food groups as well as environment. Our biggest take away's And what was probably causing? Most of her issues choose we had her on a Salmon and sweet potato And found that this was high on her list. Also, she had chicken broth on her food as well as some treats that had different "yeast" in them, we found she had an Intolerance to 3 different yeast. So plea

Also, she had chicken broth on her food as well as some treats that had different "yeast" in them, we found she had an Intolerance to 3 different yeast. So please check your treats, these can cause so many issues for a dog with allergies. She was so neglected and underweight, this had to also play a role in what we were trying to heal.

So today, after 2 weeks with a new food, some meds including for her allergies, and her foster is giving 2 medicated baths weekly. So please continue to send her some good vibes. She will go in for a Recheck 12/20.

✔️Vetted, spayed, microchipped
✔️We use a pen no crate
✔️loves everyone
✔️she gets around on her own, at times a little wobbly.
✔️she is on incontinence meds and does well not having peeing accidents. We are working on her p**p accidents, but those are getting better/limited. Part of this is due to the food changes and meds her p**p had gotten bad, but is on the mend!!
✔️she loves to be petted
✔️she loves toys and to play

October updates:
Rosie is a pup that came to us with brother Rocky back in May. They were rescued from a neglect case with a total if think of 7 dogs. Rosie was in the worst shape out of all of them. She could barely walk and was wobbly and falling over. She also had very little hair / fur and so many lumps/bumps all over and hanging. She came in with such bad skin allergies that were still working on but are much more controlled. She had a really bad eae iinfection Including some sort of trauma creating the cauliflower ear.. So when she first came in, we had to work on the skin and the ear first before we can do anything else. She was getting medicated baths twice a day. In August she was finally doing much better which allowed us to take her back into the vet for ger dental and then remove her lumps and bumps and have them biopsy. All the results came back good, But trying to allow the stitches to heal was our challenge. Due to all the scar tissue as well the location of one of the stitched area her stitches were not staying sealed. So that part of her healing is going to take a little bit of time. Now our focus is to work on her incontinence issue she has some of the time.

I'm going to share some pictures of when she first came in as well as today and you will see what a difference.

🎄🐾 Holiday Foods Your Dog Should Avoid! 🐾🎄

The holidays are full of delicious treats, but not all of them are safe for your furry friends. Keep your pup happy and healthy this season by avoiding these dangerous foods:

🚫 Chocolate – Toxic to dogs, especially dark chocolate!
🚫 Alcoholic Beverages – Even small amounts can cause serious harm.
🚫 Grapes & Raisins – Can cause kidney failure, so skip sharing your fruitcake.
🚫 Onions & Garlic – Found in many holiday dishes, these can damage red blood cells.
🚫 Xylitol – A sugar substitute in candies and baked goods that’s extremely toxic to dogs.
🚫 Cooked Bones – They can splinter and cause choking or internal injuries.
🚫 Fatty Foods – Ham, gravy, and buttery dishes can upset their stomachs or lead to pancreatitis.

🦴 Instead, treat your pup with dog-friendly snacks like plain veggies, approved dog treats, or holiday-themed chew toys! 🎁

Keep your pup safe and make this holiday season merry and bright for the whole family. ❤️

This day has been a long time coming and we are so happy for our girl Sophia. As most of you mi get remember, Sophia come into the rescue in July with her 2 babies (Olive and Laya). She?
Is such a wonderful, special, and sweetest pup, she loves everyone she meets. She came in having heartworm, But during her vetting, she became very ill.And had to spend a few days at the ER back at the end of August. After much needed care, fluids, antibiotics, pain meds and so much more she finally was able to come home to her foster dad Phil. Now the new challenge was to let her heal, regulate her p**p, she needed to gain some weight. We were not rushing her health, and finally we were able to take her through the heartworm treatment at the beginning of December. She is still on quiet time but happy to say she has found her person and her forever home. She met Joey, and you can see the connection. Today, when we took her home, she walked in, and it's like she has been there a long time . We are excited for her future! Once of quiet time, I see many play dates with her foster brothers Leo and Cash.

We are forever grateful and feel so blessed that Phil Hollingsworth is part of our rescue family. His love and devotion truly made the difference for her, especially when she was so sick. Thank you, Phil
