🐻♥️Darvin is a young male Akita that is very affectionate, fun, happy and loves spending time with his people!! He loves walks, playing in the water, is a great hiking buddy and loves to settle by you for cuddles and scratches. He is respectful of other dogs and could possibly get along with a friendly female if introduced properly. Darvin is currently in boarding but can schedule to meet adopters with a little notice!! He is just a darling sweet young pup that needs to be in the best home, not a boarding kennel!!💙

💙🐾Tadeo is a wonderful young adult male Akita that is available for adoption!! He is a bouncy, fun, happy go lucky bear of a boy! Tadeo definitely marches to the beat of his own drum. He loves to go for walks and is very good on leash and seems to walk with a joyful pep in his step. He honestly always brings a smile to his caregivers faces because he loves to play, eat treats, shake and wrestle his rope toys and show his affection for you with so much joy. Tadeo just never seems to let life get him down. He would do best as an only boy because he really came from an early life of neglect and would adore to be the apple of his owners eye. We just love him and want to see him spoiled the way he deserves. Tadeo is recovering from some fly strike to his ears after a life or being outside but healing up nicely and is about as handsome as can be!

♥️🙏🏼WE COULD REALLY USE MORE beds!!! Our pups either in boarding or at our rescue ranch are in covered kennels but most are outside in a ranch environment and these Kuranda beds stand the test of time!! Also many pups arrive never having had a bed and can immediately destroy blankets or soft beds and these Kuranda beds are a good first step to teaching them comfort. They are the absolute best and last us a very long time. If you can help by donating a bed they are a direct and immediate way to help one of our rescue pups!! ♥️ Please see our link below and in the bio and note we can use as many as possible!!
🌸♥️Bubbles (white), Buttercup (tri-colored), Blossom (long coat) are all loving, sweet young Akitas in boarding that are ready for their forever homes!!! 🐾😔With a very heavy heart we want to let you know our Angel Salami passed away and now is running free in heaven. Thank you to everyone who helped us love and support this amazing boy!!! You allowed for us to fight for him and give him the comfort and dignity he deserved. We loved him dearly and needed a little time to grieve before posting. We are a very small team and each of our pups are intimately a part of our family. Even though they may not be technically adopted when they leave us on earth they already have been adopted in our hearts. A Passion for Paws believes in each of these amazing creatures and Salami was a special boy.
Salami had distemper and mycoplasm pneumonia. Even though he was vaccinated as an adult, he likely did not receive the vaccines as a pup that were needed to develop immunity.
Salami fought bravely and we were cautiously optimistic that he would recover but he had a massive seizure and due to the prognosis of future neurological issues we had to help him cross the bridge. 🌈

♥️🐾Nova was a young female Akita we rescued from the euthanasia list about 4 months ago!! Little did we know when she arrived, that she was pregnant with these adorable pups in her belly!! We urgently set things up at the rescue as we were already taking care of momma Zia and her babies. And now beautiful Nova and her 3 puppies are available for adoption!! ♥️🐾This young Akita bonded pair are available for adoption!!! Meet Wallace (male dark coat) and Winnie (female sand/golden coat), these two are quite the pair!!! Very friendly and affectionate with people, they are a stunning example of the breed. Wallace and Winnie are very young and follow your lead. They are very responsive to training and are at the perfect age to grow and adjust to their new home. They do have Akita prey drive so no small pets are recommended and as they are young and have puppy energy at times we do not recommend small children. They love going for walks, napping next to each other and are just a delightful pair.
💙💙🧸Sweet young adult male Akita Nigiri is available for adoption!! This young boy is gentle, friendly and loves his stuffed toys!! He is just as cuddly and sweet as can be. Nigiri has been the most well behaved citizen at the ranch and will be your most loyal best friend for life!!!🐾

💙🐾KOSHAKU is available for adoption!! He is a young male akita that is friendly, calm, very easy going, affectionate and has been non reactionary with aggressive dogs. He could very well be paired with another friendly dog once introduced properly!! KOSHAKU has done well with his bath, walks well on leash, and has been a excellent boy!! As handsome as they come in true Akita style, KOSHAKU is currently in boarding but can schedule to meet adopters with a little notice!! He is just an amazing Akita ambassador that needs to be in the best home, not a boarding kennel!!

🐾🥹♥️ Panther is an adorable little man born to Akita momma Zia at the ranch! He is up to date on all shots, neutered and ready to go home!! This little guy has a heart of gold. He gets along great with other dogs and is a wonderful boy!! All of Zia’s pups are very friendly and excellent with their training! Panther is a sweet, very loyal little guy with the dedicated heart of a lion!!! Very sweet in nature, he loves to follow his person around while off leash and lays waiting patiently for their next move. He is very calm and the best baby boy 💙

A Passion For Paws Rescue, Inc. is a 501c3 non-profit dog rescue organization specializing in Akitas and other large-breed dogs.
It’s not hard to make decisions when you know what your values are. A Passion For Paws Rescue, Inc. was founded in 2004 by Cheryl Weatherford to honor the memory of her son Paxton David Weatherford who passed away from a rare form of cancer after only a 9 day battle. Paxton loved animals, and had brought Cheryl her first Akita; an extra large, white male named Zeus who had survived a terrible fire at a San Diego shelter that killed 200 dogs. Zeus had the appearance of a polar bear, temperament of a lamb, and was wise beyond his years fostering in Cheryl, an undying love for Akitas and dogs in need.
Since our beginning, we have saved the lives of over 2,000 Akitas and other large-breed dogs who don’t stand a chance in overcrowded shelters and are often destroyed right away. In 2010, we established the #AkitaRanch facility to provide for the temporary housing and care of dogs in need. We have the capacity for 25 dogs at a time, and when space is unavailable, dogs are placed in foster care. We are the only Akita rescue organization in the southwestern United States that actively takes in dogs on a weekly, if not daily basis.
We are 100% all-volunteer charity organization that operates entirely on donations. The average stay is 140 days per dog, where we provide medical care, spay/neuter/microchip and rehabilitate each dog to be ready for their forever home. We do not turn away dogs based on sickness, injury, age, or attitude, and strive to make 2nd hand dogs first class family members.
