🐾💙UPDATE on poor Salami: he isn’t doing great and has been back at the vet for more tests. Please donate and pray for this sweet boy!! We are hoping it is pneumonia as that can be treated, and not something more complicated. When he arrived at the rescue he had come from a life of serious neglect and had been doing great. We hope there isn’t anything underlying that is a result of his tough start to life and he recovers quickly!! We love this amazing boy so much ♥️

🚨🐾Sometimes things get tough and we have to press on!!!! Sweet Salami recently has been in boarding while we try and make room to save more dogs at the rescue ranch and he unexpectedly got sick. We hurried him to the vet and he is doing much better but another unexpected vet bill expense has been added to our list this month. If you can help, please donate!!

💜🐾Update on Keiko: thank you to those who have donated!!! Darling Keiko made it out of surgery ok and is healing at the rescue!!! She insisted she be surrounded by her babies so we made sure all her stuffies were next to her!! This dolly and so many others we help are only safe because of your support. Our only goal is to help the innocent ♥️

🙌🏼Update: she is out of surgery!! Keiko had become septic so we acted just in time!!♥️💜WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!! Keiko, this Angel is having an emergency vet surgery. She arrived at our ranch with clear signs of total neglect but was just as sweet as can be. We have nurtured her and love her so much but as she was taken in for a check on her paw the vet did an evaluation and said she needed to be admitted for Pyometra surgery asap. She is in surgery now and we will find out costs soon, but if you can help in anyway, we would appreciate it!!! Also please think good thoughts and send prayers up for this beautiful girl ♥️♥️♥️🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

🐾♥️Meet adorable Salami!!! Salami is a young adult male Akita that arrived very thin, emaciated and clearly neglected for some time. But that didn’t damper his spirits!! He was wiggly, loving and just wanted to be by your side. So we immediately started rehabbing him and he is recovering wonderfully!!! He is gaining weight and feeling fantastic!! This darling boy is now ready for adoption!! Let’s find him the very best loving forever family!!💙

🐾🥹♥️ Panther is an adorable little man born to Akita momma Zia at the ranch! He is up to date on all shots, neutered and ready to go home!! 22 weeks old and has a heart of gold. He gets along great with other dogs and is a wonderful boy!! All of Zia’s pups are very friendly and excellent with their training! Panther is a sweet, very loyal little guy with the dedicated heart of a lion!!! Very sweet in nature, he loves to follow his person around while off leash and lays waiting patiently for their next move. He is very calm and the best baby boy 💙
♥️🐾This young Akita bonded pair are available for adoption!!! Meet Wallace (male dark coat) and Winnie (female sand/golden coat), these two are quite the pair!!! Very friendly and affectionate with people, they a stunning example of the breed. Wallace and Winnie are very young and follow your lead. They are very responsive to training and are at the perfect age to grow and adjust to their new home. They do have Akita prey drive so no small pets are recommended and as they are young and have puppy energy at times we do not recommend small children. They love going for walks, napping next to each other and are just a delightful pair. Wallace and Winnie are in boarding so they are available for an appt with a little notice.

Our Story
A Passion For Paws Rescue, Inc. is a 501c3 non-profit dog rescue organization specializing in Akitas and other large-breed dogs.
It’s not hard to make decisions when you know what your values are. A Passion For Paws Rescue, Inc. was founded in 2004 by Cheryl Weatherford to honor the memory of her son Paxton David Weatherford who passed away from a rare form of cancer after only a 9 day battle. Paxton loved animals, and had brought Cheryl her first Akita; an extra large, white male named Zeus who had survived a terrible fire at a San Diego shelter that killed 200 dogs. Zeus had the appearance of a polar bear, temperament of a lamb, and was wise beyond his years fostering in Cheryl, an undying love for Akitas and dogs in need.
Since our beginning, we have saved the lives of over 2,000 Akitas and other large-breed dogs who don’t stand a chance in overcrowded shelters and are often destroyed right away. In 2010, we established the #AkitaRanch facility to provide for the temporary housing and care of dogs in need. We have the capacity for 25 dogs at a time, and when space is unavailable, dogs are placed in foster care. We are the only Akita rescue organization in the southwestern United States that actively takes in dogs on a weekly, if not daily basis.
We are 100% all-volunteer charity organization that operates entirely on donations. The average stay is 140 days per dog, where we provide medical care, spay/neuter/microchip and rehabilitate each dog to be ready for their forever home. We do not turn away dogs based on sickness, injury, age, or attitude, and strive to make 2nd hand dogs first class family members.
