💙🐾Takashi is a young Akita that recently arrived at the ranch!! He is a very sweet and friendly boy that is ready to go home!! He loves everyone he meets and especially loves to sit for a treat and a scratch. He is well behaved, quiet and just a joy to be around!!
♥️We solely rely on your donations to continue saving lives and providing for the abandoned pups in our care!! Our monthly donor program is a great way to help us know we can pay the bills for the pups and be able to rescue additional orphans. It is also what is allowing for us to pay for pups to be in boarding. When we are at max capacity we then can rescue Akitas that are on the euthanasia list at the shelter and place them in boarding until we have room at the ranch. Please consider a monthly donation to help us keep fighting!!! Right now the need is a greater than ever!!! We appreciate you all 🐾♥️

You can make any PayPal donation monthly reoccurring!!
💙🐾Located in Sulphur Springs Texas, Apollo needs our help finding a home!!!🚨
We are in Sulphur Springs, Texas and trying to find a good home for Apollo. He’s an 8 year old German Sheppard Akita that has been raised inside around kids/toddlers and is potty trained and trained to not bark. He has been a very good and loving dog but we need to find a good home for him. Please let us know if you or someone you know would like a very good companion!
💙Enzo is an amazing, loving, Akita male available for adoption!! 🐾 He arrived at our ranch in horrible condition due to neglect. Terribly thin, with skin sores and shaky in his walk. Well this teddy bear is healed up and a big happy goof!!🐻He is pretty much the floppy Akita boy that wants to sit in your lap and be your best friend! He loves being in a home, comfy and cozy, going for walks, playing with toys, eating yummy food and to be next to you for love and scratches!! Enzo is a doll and deserves a new loving life spoiled rotten.♥️

Let’s find this handsome boy the best forever home!!! 🐾💙♥️
🐾Rollie, formerly known as Ronaldo is an XL male Akita looking for his forever home!! Like most Akitas, he can be aloof with strangers and doesn’t appreciate them being too invasive of his personal space but falls in love once he sees you respect his boundaries. He is treat motivated and loves to play….then mostly relax!!🤣Rollie is a quiet boy that enjoys life. He really is low maintenance and goes about his day in calm confidence. He would do well as an only dog in a breed savvy home that loves and cherishes him♥️
⭐️🐾Lightning is a gentle, calm Akita male that is ready for his forever home!! He is very sweet and affectionate. He walks excellent on leash, does well indoors, love his grooming, and is as loyal as they come. Lightning is quiet and can be a little shy at first but warms up quickly. He is just wonderful and would do best as an only boy. Lightning arrived at the ranch years ago neglected and scared. With love he was able to open up and now deserves to be someone’s special boy in his own home♥️
💙Tank is the best boy!!!! 🐾💙Tank is an extremely loving and adorable male Akita available for adoption!! 🧸He is a big bear that loves to lean into and plop down beside you for affection! He walks well on leash, enjoys long naps and has been good with other dogs through the fence.
♥️ We have wonderful news!!! Kia and Rico were adopted by our longtime volunteers and board members Mike and Angela!!!!🐾They both are adjusting well and we are so grateful for our Ranch team that have loved and cared for them all these years and for your support!!! Some pups do not get adopted as quickly as others and your help is how we can provide and rehabilitate them until their forever home comes along. Also your adoptions allow for us to make room for another pup that may need us and right now there are so many!! Thank you everyone and best puppy blessings to Mike and Angela for giving these special doggies a chance!!
💜Please considering adopting one of our dogs

💙🐾Danny is a 1 year old, wonderful young male Akita!! He is a breath of fresh air that’s excited about life!! He is very sweet and wants to explore. He has that puppy wonder and innocence in his eyes which brings joy to everyone he meets. He is silly, spunky, fun and is ready to find his forever home!!♥️
🎀Rose is an adorable petite young girl Akita who is ready for her forever home!! 💜She is very sweet and affectionate. Rose is not a fan of most other dogs but does like some of our friendly males. She loves playing with toys and is learning to walk on-leash. She walks wonderfully but was scared of the leash at first. We don’t know what her previous life was like but have noticed she really opened up with us. She can be shy of new experiences but adjusts with a little encouragement. 🐾💕Rose truly is just a dolly that needs someone to show her what this beautiful world is about!!!
💜🐾Soraya is safe with us!! She is a darling girl that is just as sweet as can be!!! If you would like to donate to her care please see the link below!! Or if you would love to adopt this precious girl..
🐾♥️Bambi is a sweet, gentle, male Akita who would love nothing more than a home to call his own.💙 Bambi thrived in a temporary foster home but he is back at the ranch in our care. He is a loving boy with special needs but is wonderful in the house and a quiet companion. Bambi loves treats, nice walks and long naps!! He would do best as the only dog in home - he loves being the star of the show! Bambi is looking for a loving owner that can give him the TLC he needs.
💙Okami is a handsome young boy ready for adoption!! 💙🐾He is affectionate, loves walks, enjoys playing in the yard and is intelligent. He responds well to training and has grown so much during his time at the ranch! He has done well with friendly female dogs but can be reactive on leash to some dominant males. Okami is very loyal and would love his forever home!
💙🐾Teddy (ID #: A070140): Teddy is a neutered male, charcoal gray Akita believed to be about 11 months old. He has been at the shelter since August 3rd, 2024. Teddy came to the shelter very young and energetic, leading to stress in a kennel environment. He is currently at a foster home, but the foster is unable to keep him anymore. There is no space for him to come back to the shelter. While at the foster home, he has been crate trained, potty trained, learned to use a doggie dog, and learned to live with 3 other dogs. He also successfully graduated from PetSmart’s 6 week basic training and knows sit, down, leave it, shake, and other simple commands. He loves to go for walks and go for car rides. Common to his breed, he does resource guard and can be destructive when left alone for too long. He is still a puppy, learning discipline and routine, and how to be a dog. An adopter with experience with the Akita breed would be best for Teddy.
💙Sasaki is a handsome, young, Akita male available for adoption! He was recently adopted and returned because unfortunately his new home had someone with serious allergies. So he is back and as sweet as ever!! Sasaki is an amazing boy that is so grateful to be loved and safe. He has a true loyal Akita spirit and will be a devoted best friend all the days of his life.🐾
🐾🧸Hailey is a darling little girl Akita that is ready for her forever home!!💜She can be a little shy at first but is a sweet baby once she knows you can be trusted. She is young and will definitely grow and fill out more with time. Hailey has that wonderful Akita female sass that the boy Akitas love. But she would do best as an only girl unless there is a friendly male she is introduced to slowly. A good girl on walks and such a princess as she is learning more each day, Hailey is an Akita queen in the making!!
UPDATE: We were informed that this 1 year old female Akita may have been illegally rehomed by the finder. There is no shortage of Akitas in need, however our concerns are and have always been for this dog's safety.
FOUND AKITA - Yucaipa, CA
We were notified that this female Akita was found in Yucaipa, CA along with a note. The original post was deleted so the details about how she was found aren't entirely clear. Unfortunately even with a note, that doesn't legally transfer ownership of a dog. If this is/was your dog, please email [email protected] to help us understand what happened and see if we can help.

Bluey is a young Heeler male full of fun with a spunky personality. He has the sweetest heart, enjoys learning and at only 1 year old is ripe for training!! Bluey needs a home where he can run or go for walks and be a part of the family. He knows a few commands like sit and spin. And is truly a fun, loyal boy that deserves the best home!!
🐾This is Micaela with an update on lincoln! My partner and I rescued him from passion for paws back in may of this year and we just finished our first three months with him. We had been watching him since September 2023 when he was still in the north central shelter and worked hard to prepare a home for him. My partner meeting him at north central as a potential foster and then we both visited him twice at the rescue. He is our precious boy and we all love each other very much. He had difficulty adjusting with food aggression and separation anxiety but we were committed to making things work with him and now we have mutual trust and communication. He still has trouble being left alone but we continue to work with him. He loves to shake hands, ride in the car and play tug and hide and seek. He goes on three walks a day where he smells thoroughly smells EVERYTHING. We like to take him to the beach and different parks so he can experience different things. He demands our love and Attention and he gets it all! Despite everything he’s been through, he’s the sweetest thing and we can’t imagine our lives without him. Thank you for saving him.♥️
Micaela and Jeff

Who ever remembers Westley, he is now named Mac and with his new daddy in a really loving forever home. Thank you for everyone that helped him along the way.
We can't think of anything more cute than our precious, gentle Rose in her submissive play stance. Not only is Rose very sweet, she is just as loyal as they come. Come visit her, you might just feel the urge to take her home with you.

A Passion For Paws Rescue, Inc. is a 501c3 non-profit dog rescue organization specializing in Akitas and other large-breed dogs.
It’s not hard to make decisions when you know what your values are. A Passion For Paws Rescue, Inc. was founded in 2004 by Cheryl Weatherford to honor the memory of her son Paxton David Weatherford who passed away from a rare form of cancer after only a 9 day battle. Paxton loved animals, and had brought Cheryl her first Akita; an extra large, white male named Zeus who had survived a terrible fire at a San Diego shelter that killed 200 dogs. Zeus had the appearance of a polar bear, temperament of a lamb, and was wise beyond his years fostering in Cheryl, an undying love for Akitas and dogs in need.
Since our beginning, we have saved the lives of over 2,000 Akitas and other large-breed dogs who don’t stand a chance in overcrowded shelters and are often destroyed right away. In 2010, we established the #AkitaRanch facility to provide for the temporary housing and care of dogs in need. We have the capacity for 25 dogs at a time, and when space is unavailable, dogs are placed in foster care. We are the only Akita rescue organization in the southwestern United States that actively takes in dogs on a weekly, if not daily basis.
We are 100% all-volunteer charity organization that operates entirely on donations. The average stay is 140 days per dog, where we provide medical care, spay/neuter/microchip and rehabilitate each dog to be ready for their forever home. We do not turn away dogs based on sickness, injury, age, or attitude, and strive to make 2nd hand dogs first class family members. Come spend some time at #AkitaRanch, 28930 Ellis Ave, Romoland, CA located in Riverside County, California. Bring hotdogs and you’ll be VERY popular around here.
