🚨During the heatwave there was a huge shift in weather Sunday with heavy thunderstorms, wind and rain that hit us at the ranch!! 🐾Good news is everyone is ok. Bad news was there was a good amount of property damage that we have to repair costing $3885.00. Times are tough and this is a huge unexpected expense. If you can help in anyway by donating we would appreciate your help!!
🚨Currently at a foster in Big Bear City but this beautiful 5 month old Huskita named Saint needs a forever home!! He was saved from euthanasia from the local shelter and now is in a very temporary location. Saint is a wonderful, sweet and goofy boy that came from a neglected backyard breeder situation.

💙🐾Formoso is an incredibly handsome, large, young male Akita!! He is as loyal and loving as they come. He takes a little time to get to know you but once he loves you, he loves you for life!! He would do best as an only dog but does get along well with most other dogs through the play yard fence. He is a large male and the biggest ham who wears his emotions on his sleeve. 😘Formoso loves to go for walks and crash for a nap next to his person. An Akita experienced owner would be best for this young man. Adults only.

⭐️🐾Lightning is a gentle, calm Akita male that is ready for his forever home!! He is very sweet and affectionate. He walks excellent on leash, does well indoors, love his grooming, and is as loyal as they come. Lightning is quiet and can be a little shy at first but warms up quickly. He is just wonderful and would do best as an only boy.
💙Ernie is a playful young male with a stunning brindle coat! Ernie loves to run and and explore!! He has been good in the play yard next to other dogs and really wants to please. When he arrived with us he was a bit underweight and he can become very concerned about protecting his food and bowl. We are working with him and he is responsive to the training but we suspect he had much food insecurity in his previous life. He is truly a darling boy in all other aspects and will need consistent training and care to get through his fears. 🐾
💙Tank is an extremely loving and adorable male Akita available for adoption!! 🧸He is a big bear that loves to lean into and plop down beside you for affection! He walks well on leash, enjoys long naps and has been good with other dogs through the fence.

He responds well to training and has grown so much during his time at the ranch! He has done well with friendly female dogs but can be reactive on leash to some dominant males. ♥️💜Gorgeous little girl Akita JuJu is ready for adoption!! JuJu arrived at the ranch very thin and clearly had not been well taken care of but we changed that immediately and now she thriving!! This cutie is a petite size for an Akita and loves to be with her people. She can bark at first when meeting but quickly warms up as she gets to know you are her friend. She is not a fan of most other dogs and would need to be introduced properly. We have seen potential when meeting a friendly male but JuJu really loves to be a devoted friend and cuddle bug to her humans. She is very intelligent and ready to feel what life is really about in a loving home!! 💜

Rose truly is just a dolly that needs someone to show her what this beautiful world is about!!!

He did extremely well with his bath and grooming the next day after these pics. He is a long coat so will need to go to a home that can make sure his coat is properly cared for. 🐾Meet Kuro today!!

A Passion For Paws Rescue, Inc. is a 501c3 non-profit dog rescue organization specializing in Akitas and other large-breed dogs.
It’s not hard to make decisions when you know what your values are. A Passion For Paws Rescue, Inc. was founded in 2004 by Cheryl Weatherford to honor the memory of her son Paxton David Weatherford who passed away from a rare form of cancer after only a 9 day battle. Paxton loved animals, and had brought Cheryl her first Akita; an extra large, white male named Zeus who had survived a terrible fire at a San Diego shelter that killed 200 dogs. Zeus had the appearance of a polar bear, temperament of a lamb, and was wise beyond his years fostering in Cheryl, an undying love for Akitas and dogs in need.
Since our beginning, we have saved the lives of over 2,000 Akitas and other large-breed dogs who don’t stand a chance in overcrowded shelters and are often destroyed right away. In 2010, we established the #AkitaRanch facility to provide for the temporary housing and care of dogs in need. We have the capacity for 25 dogs at a time, and when space is unavailable, dogs are placed in foster care. We are the only Akita rescue organization in the southwestern United States that actively takes in dogs on a weekly, if not daily basis.
We are 100% all-volunteer charity organization that operates entirely on donations. The average stay is 140 days per dog, where we provide medical care, spay/neuter/microchip and rehabilitate each dog to be ready for their forever home. We do not turn away dogs based on sickness, injury, age, or attitude, and strive to make 2nd hand dogs first class family members.
