Foal slippers, often referred to as 'Golden slippers,' are a fascinating aspect of a foal's early life. Upon birth, foals possess hooves encased in a rubbery layer known as a capsule.

This delicate capsule serves to shield the sharp edges of the foal's untested hooves, providing protection to the mare during the foal's passage through the birth canal. It is essential to capture an image of these slippers quickly, as they begin to dry and deteriorate the moment they are exposed to air.

As the foal takes its initial steps on the ground, the soft hoof capsules gradually wear down, revealing the solid hooves that we are accustomed to seeing. This transformation is truly remarkable.

*Lower Michigan has had cases of EEE and WN this year so if someone wants to booster those out of caution we can (vetera gold). New horses to the facility having vaccines for the first time while with us must get vetera gold. Sign up sheet will be in the tack room soon!
