Rose's Rescue

Rose's Rescue RR is an all-volunteer 501(c)3 organization. We primarily rescue dogs from local shelters and place them in foster homes until adopted.

Rose's Rescue is a 501c3 non-profit rescue made up of a small group of volunteers, and no paid employees. All of our funds come from donations. Our dogs are in area foster homes. We do not have a shelter per se and only under special circumstances are any of our animals "kenneled". With few exceptions, they are very well-socialized with people and other animals, which makes it much easier to know

their temperaments. We do not often take owner surrenders, but we occasionally do courtesy posts for pets that are vetted (fixed and current on vaccinations/heartworm care) and in need of homes. How it all began:
It all started when founder Rose Sachs answered an ad in the local classifieds that said they could help a person find homes for unwanted pets. Rose had recently moved to a rural setting with some acreage, and had subsequently acquired 4 or 5 dogs that had been dropped off or that she'd found abandoned and was trying to find new homes for them. It was 2001, and she ended up partnering with the person who placed the ad, calling themselves "New Leash on Life." After about a year, they went their separate ways, but Rose continued her work re-homing pets in need. She found a few other like-minded people to help her - just one or two at the start, and Rose's Rescue was born. It took several years to grow into something more than just basically a few foster homes, but by 2004 had become a relatively cohesive group with a more defined process and mission. On October 10th of 2006, Rose's Rescue was officially granted it's 501c3 status. Since, then, we have continued to grow with more volunteers, a more structured operation, and more dogs under our care, We utilize modern technology with the implementation of a large database system (through rescuegroups.org), our own website, active page and busy event calendar. We strive to not only help the dogs we have rescued, but also work to support our local pounds where there is a need we can address, (provide vet transport, help to defray vet costs, etc), and work with other rescues and shelters in our area for the benefit of dogs in our greater community.

And remember little Prince? He was very sick when he came into our care, and he was very, very, thin. He was also completely deaf, and his dry eyes were chronic, limiting his vision. But nevertheless, this little guy is a survivor and loves life despite having a few extra challenges. His forever mom and dad adore him, and he is spoiled like the true prince he is! He will not want for anything ever again. Prince, like Lukey/Ferris, truly exemplifies the meaning of rescue. When you adopt, donate, or support us by attending our events, this is what you are allowing us to continue to do. We are forever grateful, because rescue is definitely worth it!!

How about an update or two from some of our rescues who have benefited from the generosity of our family of supporters? Remember Lukey, who we rescued last winter? His back was raw and ridden with sores and he was missing lots of hair in other places, too. People donated sweaters and coats to help keep him warm while he healed, as well as toys and treats and other supplies. His name is now Ferris. And he’s living his best life in Pittsburgh with his fabulous forever mom. Look at him then and now! We couldn’t do this without you all - thank you!!

Welcome to Rose’s Rescue Whiskey! (Name may be subject to change.)
This sweet older guy had been at the pound for over a month. When we asked what his issues were, we were told, “No issues. No one has even asked to meet him.” Well, that all changed yesterday when not only did one of our volunteers go to meet him, but also got him out of there so he could become one of our RR furkids. He won’t be ready for adoption yet, as he has a few vet issues to be taken care of first - he needs neutered, has a a sneezy respiratory infection, an ear infection (he also doesn’t hear that well but that’s probably unrelated) , and likely will need a dental, too. But meanwhile, he’s happily getting settled in his foster home. He got to sleep on a comfy bed last night, naps on the couch, and has a fenced yard to roam about in to his heart’s content. Whiskey is a sweetheart of a guy. His’s a chihuahua or a mix thereof, and is on the large side for that breed.

Where are her applications? They should be flooding in for this girl! Naomi is a small Lab mix - should be around 35 lbs or so after putting on just a few more. She’s young (about a year and a half, best guess) and oh-so-trainable! Right now, she’s still kind of a goofy teenager, but very good overall. She’s crate-trained, housebroken, and loves, loves, LOVES to play! She’s also gorgeous, to boot! Find more info on her and all of our other adoptable furkids at rosesrescue.net

Woo-hoo! We are so proud of our new girl Naomi! She was left alone for the very first time this morning, in a crate (with some safe things to chew on) and when her foster mom came home several hours later, she was laying there quietly - she hadn’t even messed up her blanket! Her foster mom is celebrating, as we were afraid she was going to be a challenging anxiety case. Naomi is celebrating differently. She found an old Santa stuffy in the toy box and says it’s time for Christmas in July! Good girl, Naomi!

We recently took in a soon to be beautiful again girl were calling Naomi. She’s about a year old, we think, and has potential in spades! However, probably due to a past life that we will never know anything about, she’s extremely insecure. She’s timid of new people but latched on to her foster mama immediately, not wanting to even let her out of sight for a minute. Of course we will be diligently working with Naomi to help her overcome her anxiety and become the confident girl we know she can be, but her foster home is not ideal for her circumstance.

Most people believe that a dog who gets stressed when left alone should be placed with someone who is home most of the time. This can be the exact opposite of what is needed. The dog becomes even more hyper-focused on the owner who is home so much, making it makes it all the more stressful when the person has to be away because it happens so infrequently that it’s hard for the dog to get used to it.

Naomi would really benefit by being in an active household, with people coming and going all the time, lots of playtime, and at least one other well-adjusted and active dog as a companion and role model. She’s a great size, being a skinny 26 lbs now but topping off at around 30-35 lbs or so once she puts on some much needed weight.

We would LOVE to find the right adopter for Naomi, or possibly a foster-to-adopt home for her. Rose’s Rescue would be there to help you as much or as little as you (and Naomi) needed. This gal has SOOOOOO much potential and we really want her to be able to reach it so she can thrive! She’s obviously never been given that chance yet, and we hope to make that happen for her. If this sounds like a girl you’d like to help and may have the right hime environment she’d do best in, please go to rosesrescue.net to fill out a foster or adoption application.

On behalf of our dear Naomi, we thank you!!

KITTY WHISPERER(S) NEEDED!!! Can you help?
Remember the kitty with the bad eyes that we needed a foster for recently? Well, it turns out that Minnie had siblings that also needed looking after. The foster mom who helped us out by taking in Minnie ended up taking in the rest of the litter as well, but it’s become a bit overwhelming. These babies were feral, and were never exposed to human until now, so they are NOT sweet and cuddly little kittens. From their current caretaker, “They are doing well w being touched now but not enjoying being picked up. Vet has stated they have a lot of potential to not grow up wild. I will begin forced love but I really need assistance!!! The one w the eye problem and another sibling are still very demanding for medical intervention. So please, please help!”
If anyone would be willing to take one or two into their care and try to work with them, it would be a Godsend to us, them, and their current foster mama! We’d love for them to become lovable potential members of a household, but caring for them until they are old enough to become independent barn kitties would help. We provide all supplies and vet care! Please fill out a foster application at rosesrescue.net if you can help. Anise (gray and white, m), Cumin (all gray, m), and Burnet (black, f) would appreciate it! (Well, they should appreciate it, but WE appreciate it in their behalf!)
