I was watching video on between the reigns a few weeks ago and it was on taking your horses energy up and bringing them back down and trying to maintain a calm cool transition. I’ve started incorporating this in my training and here’s why. You have a horse who can control their physical energy with mentally these are the horses that walk in the box turn their bits into the corner and stand. Or the barrel horse that walks in calm collected lopes a circle and takes off. These are the horses through training have been fought to manage their energy mentally. No on the other hand there’s the horses that are tearing hot chomping at the bit these are the horses that the only thing maintaining their energy is a bit. It’s all training but that transition from fast to slow and slow to fast should be smooth.
