Why Dogs Never Die

- author Earnest Montegue -

This Is Why Dogs Never Die
Some of you, particularly those who think they have recently lost a dog to "death", don't really understand this. I've had no desire to explain, but I won't be around forever and must.
Dogs never die. They don't know how to. They get tired, and very old, and their bones hurt. If they did they would not always want to go for a walk, even long after their old bones say: "No, no, not a good idea. Let's not go for a walk." Nope, dogs always want to go for a walk. They might get one step before their aging tendons collapse them into a heap on the floor, but that's what dogs are. They walk.
It's not that they dislike your company. On the contrary, a walk with you is all there is. Their boss, and the cacophonic symphony of odor that the world is. Cat p**p, another dog's mark, a rotting chicken bone (exultation), and you. That's what makes their world perfect, and in a perfect world death has no place.
However, dogs get very very sleepy. That's what you see. They don' teach you that at the fancy university where they explain about quarks gluons and Keyneshian economics. They know so much they forget that dogs never die. It's a shame really. Dogs have so much to offer and people just talk a lot.
When you think your dog has died, it has just fallen asleep in your heart...and, by the way, it is wagging it's tail madly, you see, and that is why your chest hurts so much and you cry all the time. Who would not cry with a dog wagging it's tail in their chest. Ouch! Wap, wap wap, wap, that hurts. But they only wag when they wake up. That's when they say: "Thanks boss! Thanks for a warm place to sleep, and always next to your heart, the best place".
When they first fall asleep, they wake up all the time, and of course, that is why you cry all the time. Wap, wap, wap. After awhile they sleep more (remember, a "dog while" is not a "human while". You take your dog for a walk; it's a day full of adventure in an hour. Then you come home and it's a week...well one of your days, but a week really, before the dog gets another walk. No WONDER they love walks).
Anyway, they fall asleep in your heart, and when they wake up, they wag their tails. After a few dog years, they sleep for longer naps, and you would too. They were a GOOD DOG all their life, and you both know it. It gets tiring being a good dog all the time, particularly when your bones hurt, and you fall on your face and don't want to go outside to p*e, when it is raining, but do anyway, because you are a good dog. So, understand, after they have been sleeping in your heart, they will sleep longer and longer.
But don't get fooled. They are not "dead". There is no such thing really. They are sleeping in your heart, and they will wake up, usually when you are not expecting it. It's just who they are. I feel sorry for people who don't have dogs sleeping in their hearts. You've missed so much.
Excuse me...I have to go cry now

This poor girl is in Granbury, TX and needs a foster/forever home. Thankfully the woman from Border Collie was able to stop her car and not hit this sweet dog, wandering in the road. She has marks on her face where someone tied her muzzle shut, UGH... people can be so cruel. Please let me know if you can foster or are interested in this female. More info when I get it. I feel so bad for D'jango, the Ovcharka. The house where he has been living has been sold, escrow closes soon, and he has nowhere to go. As of today, after months of looking for a home, no one wants to adopt this sweet, wonderful boy. Lots of people wanted to adopt D'jango when he was intact (for all the wrong reasons) but no responsible 501c3 rescue adopts out a dog capable of breeding. Now that he's been neutered I can't find anyone even interested in filling out an adoption application. This is a fantastic dog, deserving of a great home. What's wrong? I have transport for him, I just need a home. Maybe the problem is that D'jango is a great dog with no problems. If you're interested, and have been waiting until the last second, now's the time for action. The adoption fee is $350, pm me for an adoption application. Bonnie Goodfriend

You may have noticed that leosinneedrescue.org disappeared from the Internet. The website was hijacked, and it took time, but finally got it back and there is a “coming soon” page on the site if you pay us a visit. The full website should be back up again very soon, I’m working on it now. In the meantime I wanted everyone to know that the email address on the second page is live if anyone needs to reach us. This lady needs a home. She was abandoned in the rural area of Riverside. She has been hanging out at my bus yard. She is very friendly but skin and bones under all this matted up. She had alot of ticks but i have that kind of under control. She is very kind and likes human contact. She seems to be very good with my big dog and would love to play with her but acts very submissive when they do start playing. I have been feeding her everyday. She is not food aggressive towards me at all what she is towards my dog rightfully so is she starving. I will continue to feed her and take care of her to the best of my ability. I'm in the movie industry also and have a lot of time away from this yard. I keep plenty of water for her but she really needs a good hands. If anyone is willing to come pick her up I'll be glad to help pay for her expenses. I feel so sad for her but I cannot cage her or tie her up as the coyotes and other wild dogs would kill her. If you know of anyone that is looking for a very loving dog that would come with some financial assistance for food or grooming please give me a text. Scott Richards 951-233-7732. Text at anytime as I don't mind getting up at any hour to help this young lady out
