Say hello to Henry! The 3-year-old King Charles Cavalier, whose radiograph we posted yesterday for you all to see and guess.

Henry had come in for an exam to schedule his neuter with Dr. Jackson, and the owners noted that they felt his breathing was different. Because of his breed, they just wanted to double-check that his heart wasn’t enlarged and causing issues.

You can never be too careful, which is another reason we like to do exams before surgery days. Lucky for Henry, it showed something that shouldn’t have been there, especially since Henry was not showing any classic signs of a foreign body, like not eating or vomiting. We are happy Henry is doing fantastic after surgery and has recovered well.

Now, you all want to know the answer: What was inside Henry? We had lots of fun and interesting answers, some correct.

Henry ingested hair ties! Dr. Jackson and his team removed over 75 hair ties from Henry's stomach!! Henry can now breathe easy and hopefully stick to his snacks from here on out.

Do you have any guesses about what this animal ingested?

The patient presented for labored breathing, and radiographs incidentally found a foreign body.

Hint: This is a common thing that most households have in them, and they are very easy to lose.

Come back tomorrow for the answer, but we would love to hear people’s ideas!

Let us introduce you to the 2 kids (That’s right! 2 kids again!) that will be receiving the proceeds from this upcoming game. Please meet Brailee and Manuel.

Brailee is now 11 years old and in 5th grade. Brailee had symptoms of migraine with vomiting for several years with no answers. In 2022 Brailee had an increase in symptoms along with behavioral changes and erratic vision. Finally in Jan of 2023 she was able to get an MRI that found a large brain tumor in Brailee’s midbrain- also affecting her optic chiasm. Unfortunately, due to the location, her tumor is inoperable and unable to be biopsied. Brailee was very quickly started on chemotherapy through a port- she underwent 15 months of chemotherapy through this and then she got a 3-month break. Unfortunately, the post treatment results she received showed growth in those three months so now Brailee is on an oral form to try and stabilize her brain tumor. Originally the initial MRI called Brailee’s diagnosis a Pilocytic astrocytoma but now is being referred to as a hypothalamic glioma. Brailee continues to see physicians and receive treatment at KU children’s Mercy, Wesley medical center and jimmy Everest cancer center OKC children’s hospital. She absolutely loves sports especially basketball and volleyball, she likes to watch football. She’s a busy body and she likes to be outside. She’s pretty girly too and loves necklaces, bracelets and hair accessories.

Manuel is 14 years old and is a huge Santos Laguna Soccer team fan. Marco used to play soccer and loved it; however, he doesn't play it anymore. He also likes to collect toys such as Pokémon cards. He's a pretty serious kid though and a little quiet. In March of this year, Manuel was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma and over the past several months, his family have had to make some very difficult decisions. He continues treatments at the KU pediatrics, and children’s mercy in Kansas City.

Let’s show these kids how much our community is behind them and make this event our biggest ever!

Of course, our sponsors are a huge help in making everything possible, so we want to thank them for their generosity. Check them out below and shoot them a message thanking them! Let them know they are making a difference in these kids’ lives and give them a follow/like. Everyone say hello to Bubba! He thinks of himself as straightforward but has two hard and fast rules. First, he requires a daily offering of the most gourmet mixed greens and insects. The second rule is that anything located within the confines of his terrarium belongs to him.

As it turns out, the second rule got him into trouble. When a decorative, mushroom-shaped rock was accidentally dropped into his home, he wasted no time enforcing this rule. He promptly ran over and consumed the rock before it could be retrieved.

As you can imagine, Bearded Dragons aren’t meant to have large rocks in their gastrointestinal tract. His appetite began to wane, so he presented to the hospital for evaluation. Radiographs were taken, and the rock was identified within his coelom. He was taken to surgery, where an enterotomy was performed by Dr. Tanner to remove the rock from the small intestines.

We are delighted to report that Bubba is doing great at home. He still expects everyone to abide by his rules since, let’s face it, this is Bubba's world, and we’re just living in it.

What does leptospirosis even mean, and how does a dog come into contact with it?

Leptospirosis is a zoonotic disease spread through the urine of infected animals. It can be transmitted from animals to humans. The disease lives in soil, water, or food contaminated with urine from infected animals, including backyard critters like raccoons and skunks. It can quickly become fatal for both dogs and humans.

What can you do? Vaccinate!

The leptospirosis vaccine is the number one way to help protect your dog and yourself. We consider lepto a core vaccine in our area, and it is given every year to help keep everyone safe.

Don’t hesitate to contact us and schedule a vaccine appointment to protect your dog from this deadly disease.
