NEW UPDATE on CDC's new requirements for pet entry into the U.S. were released 7/22/24! Due to feedback, the CDC has simplified its new process for entering the U.S. with dogs from a low risk rabies country (example; Canada) that was set to start August 1, 2024.

To summarize:
* If traveling to the U.S. from a rabies-free or low-risk country the dog must:
**Appear healthy on arrival
**Be at least 6 months old
**Be microchipped
*Also, the dog's owner must fill out the CDC Dog Import Form found online (this form is free). The receipt for this form is currently the only document necessary to cross in to the United States. This form is good for 6 months and can be used for multiple entries into the U.S. as long as the pet has not been to a high-risk rabies country in the past 6 months.

More information can be found at: https://www.cdc.gov/importation/dogs/rabies-free-low-risk-countries.html

Please be patient with us as we continue to navigate these changing regulations. We will try our best to keep you updated with the most recent, accurate information as it comes out.

Hey everyone! If you're planning to travel with your furry friends across the border soon, here's some important info from the CDC you'll want to know about:

The CDC has updated their requirements for all dog travel to the United States beginning August 1, 2024.

All dogs entering the United States must meet all of the following requirements:

โ€ข Be healthy on arrival
โ€ข Be at least 6 months old
โ€ข Have an International Organization for Standardization (ISO)-compatible microchip (implanted prior to the required
rabies vaccination)
โ€ข Have a CDC Dog Import Form receipt
โ€ข Have government-endorsed documentation of their vaccine and/or travel history (specific requirements depend on where the dog has been in the last 6 months and whether or not it was vaccinated against rabies in the U.S.)

Dogs in certain situations (e.g., foreign-vaccinated dogs coming from rabies high-risk countries) face additional requirements for entry.

For more details on these new regulations and how they might affect your travel plans, check out the CDC's official page on pet travel: CDC Pet Travel Guidelines.

Let's make sure our pets have smooth travels ahead! ๐Ÿš—โœˆ๏ธ Don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions or need more information. This is a transition for us as well, so please be kind as we all navigate these changes.

During spring, we get many calls wondering what these scary looking red spots are. These are bites from little flies, and although they may look alarming they are typically harmless. These bites usually go away on their own and don't require any treatment - of course, if they do seem to be bothersome don't hesitate to call!

๐ŸŒโœจ World Mental Health Day: Supporting our Veterinary Heroes ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’™

Today, on World Mental Health Day, let's take a moment to recognize the incredible dedication of our veterinary professionals and the unique challenges they face. ๐Ÿฉบ๐Ÿฆฎ

๐Ÿ“ข Did you know that the veterinary profession has been experiencing an alarming increase in su***de rates and are 3-4 times more likely to die by su***de than the general population? The emotional toll of caring for our beloved pets, the pressure of making difficult decisions, and the demanding nature of the job can take a toll on their mental health. It's time we stand together to address this issue and support those who care for our furry friends. ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ

๐Ÿค As pet owners, we have an important role to play! Here are some ways we can help:

1๏ธโƒฃ Show appreciation: A simple "thank you" or a kind gesture can go a long way in boosting their spirits.

2๏ธโƒฃ Listen and empathize: Sometimes, a listening ear can make all the difference. If you see a veterinary professional struggling, offer your support.

3๏ธโƒฃ Reduce stigma: Let's break the stigma surrounding mental health in the veterinary field. Encourage open conversations about mental well-being.

๐Ÿพ Did you know that our pets play a crucial role in improving our mental health too? ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿˆ

๐ŸŒŸ Pet Therapy: Spending time with our furry companions can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. The unconditional love they provide is truly healing.

๐Ÿšถโ€โ™‚๏ธ Physical Activity: Walking, playing, and caring for pets keeps us active, releasing endorphins and promoting a positive mood.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Social Connection: Pets are great conversation starters, helping us connect with others and combat loneliness.

๐Ÿ“š If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health issues, remember that help is available. Here are some resources:

๐Ÿ”— National Su***de Prevention Lifeline: 1-800-273-TALK (1-800-273-8255) https://988lifeline.org/

๐Ÿ”— Crisis Text Line: Text "HELLO" to 741741 https://www.crisistextline.org/

๐Ÿ”— Mental Health America: Information and resources for mental health support. https://www.mhanational.org/

๐Ÿ”— Veterinary Mental Health: Resources specifically tailored to veterinary professionals. https://www.avma.org/resources-tools/wellbeing

Let's work together to create a world where both humans and our furry companions can thrive mentally and emotionally. ๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿ’ช

Meet Billie, our newest staff member! Billie was found non-responsive by a good Samaritan and we nursed her back to health. As she basically came back from the dead (and it's nearing Halloween), we named her Billie after Billy Butcherson, the friendly zombie from the movie Hocus Pocus. Our staff fell in love with her quickly and decided to keep her here as our clinic cat. Thank you to everyone for your interest in Billie; you can come visit her anytime here at Roseau County Vet Clinic.

Is anyone missing an approximately 4-5 week old female kitten? She was brought in to us this morning, was barely responsive, and was found by a Good Samaritan by the side of the road. With some therapy we have gotten her to perk up but she has a long road ahead of her. Proof of ownership is required to claim.

September is Animal Pain Awareness Month. Our pets can't tell us when they are in pain, so it can be difficult to know when they need help. If you notice any of these signs of pain, please set up an appointment with us at Roseau County Vet Clinic by calling 218-452-2117.

It's the first day of Fall! As you enjoy the changing beauty of nature in the woods with your pet, remember to continue to keep them safe from ticks and the diseases they spread. Although we think of ticks being most active in the spring, there is a second peak in tick activity during August through November. Those hardy little buggers can be active anytime the temperature is 30 degrees or higher, so our pets may even need to continue tick preventative when there is snow on the ground! Wishing you and your pets a safe and enjoyable Fall season!

โ—๏ธโ—๏ธโ—๏ธ๐Ÿถ Important Announcement: Protect Your Furry Friend from Canine Parvovirus! ๐Ÿพโ—๏ธโ—๏ธโ—๏ธ

We care deeply about the health and well-being of our beloved furry companions, and today we want to raise awareness about a serious threat - Canine Parvovirus. Roseau County Veterinary Clinic has been seeing a much higher number of parvovirus cases than usual in the past few weeks.

๐Ÿฆ  What is Canine Parvovirus?
Canine Parvovirus (CPV) is a highly contagious and potentially deadly virus that affects dogs, especially puppies and unvaccinated dogs. It can spread through contact with infected f***s, contaminated objects, or even on the clothing and shoes of humans who've had contact with an infected dog. It can survive in the environment for several years!

๐Ÿ’ฉโ— Symptoms to Watch Out For:
Severe vomiting
Bloody diarrhea
Lethargy
Loss of appetite
Dehydration

๐Ÿ›‘๐Ÿ›‘If your pet is showing any of these symptoms, please notify our staff prior to coming into the vet clinic to avoid spreading this virus to other pets. We will work with you to see your pet in the safest manner possible, even if it's in your vehicle outside the clinic.

๐Ÿ˜ข Why is this Important?
CPV is preventable with proper vaccination and hygiene. However, it is expensive to treat and can be fatal if not treated promptly. That's why it's crucial to be informed and take preventative measures.

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€โš•๏ธ Prevention is Key:

Vaccination: Ensure your dog is up-to-date with their vaccinations. Consult your veterinarian for the appropriate schedule.

Hygiene: Practice good hygiene. Clean up after your dog promptly and dispose of f***s properly.

Isolation: If your dog is infected, isolate them from other dogs to prevent the spread of the virus.

Consult a Vet: If you notice any symptoms, seek immediate veterinary care. Early treatment is crucial.

๐Ÿ’™ Let's Protect Our Furry Friends Together!
Share this post with fellow pet parents to spread awareness about Canine Parvovirus and save more lives. Together, we can keep our dogs safe and healthy.
