‼️DOODLE EDUCATION TIME‼️
alright doodle owners here’s what you need to know about grooming your new puppy that your breeder probably didn’t tell you about!
any curly coated dog (doodles of any type and poodles) need to be brushed EVERY DAY. especially if you want a cute fluff ball like your breeder advertised to you! they also require grooming every 4-6 WEEKS. not months. not keeping up with grooming requirements results in your sweet pup looking like this poor boy above, smelling like urine and f***s, and inevitably having to be completely shaved down. even though many people on the internet might make you think groomers like to do shave downs, we do not. shave doesn’t require 2x the amount of time and cation. matting pulls on the skin, making it much easier to be cut when shaving. it also ruins our expensive gear because of the dirt and grime from a pre shave.
now let’s talk about the health issues of matting and pelting. matting and pelting is incredibly uncomfortable for your pup. any movement pulls on each individual hair follicle, making it painful for any movement, and even being touched. not only is it painful, but it’s also very dangerous depending on the severity of a mat or pelt, skin infections, welts, sores, fleas, and many other topical issues can occur. not only that, but if the pelts are tight enough, your dog can actually self amputate tails, ears, and even limbs (i’m not meaning to scare you! actually i am).
doodles require a LOT of up keep and man it’s expensive i know, but do your research, talk to a groomer before hand on what you need, so we can both give you and your pup the best life experience!
