At this time, HPH relies on the generosity of others to open their hearts and homes by offering to foster the dogs and cats we rescue. If you would like to volunteer/foster for us, an application can be emailed to you. All fosters and adopters must be approved. Prior to adoption all pets will be spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped, and heartworm negative. Since adoptions fees are k

ept to a minimum and don't cover our medical expenses, we rely heavily on donations in order to keep saving lives. Please consider helping our worthy cause by using our 'donate' link or mailing a check to the address shown. We and the animals really appreciate any help.

A question was asked in a local group about where one could get their puppy’s ears cropped, so we thought this would be a good time for an educational moment:

Stop the Cruelty: Say No to Ear Cropping!

Ear cropping is an unnecessary and painful procedure that offers no benefit to dogs—only harm. It involves cutting off part of a dog’s ears for purely cosmetic reasons, often without proper pain management. Here’s why it needs to stop:

❌ Painful & Risky – The procedure causes significant pain and can lead to infections, nerve damage, and long-term sensitivity.
❌ No Health Benefits – Despite myths, cropped ears don’t prevent infections or improve a dog’s hearing.
❌ Unnatural & Unnecessary – Dogs are born with ears for a reason! Their natural ears help with communication and expression.
❌ Illegal in Many Places – Many countries and U.S. states have banned ear cropping because it’s considered animal cruelty.

Dogs don’t care about looking “tough” or “stylish.” They just want love, comfort, and a happy life. Let’s speak up against this harmful practice and embrace dogs just as they are—perfect in their natural state!
