Hi

I am an independent rescuer. I am looking for other independent rescuers or rescues that are smaller in size to be willing to answer a few questions anonymously through email regarding your policy and procedures on how you run your group, organization, rescue, etc. The reason I am seeking this information is I review our current procedures yearly. I am curious if we are comparable to others in the field and whether our current policies are best practice. People aren't generally comfortable answering questions like this on social media. So anyone that's interested, Can reach out to me via email at [email protected]. I will send the questionnaire. You answer what you are comfortable with and send back. I don't need any identifying information from your organization. Just an email address. Thanks so much for reading.

Sorry about the late update. The last big case of 25 cats. All were trapped but two and between collaborative efforts of multiple organizations all were rescued but two. Everyone is thriving. We have been busy with animal care but will be getting back to doing updates shortly. Ty for your patience.

Update care taker is on there way to start catching cats.

08/18/2024

Update: This is what I can publicly share at this point. We have an established rescue stepping up that I am in contact with. I will have a more concrete plan by 9 am. Prepping now. Will share details but I believe as long as there is not too many more cats than we planned on. We should be able to provide safe haven to everyone. We are going to pull resources on this one.

Calling all transport volunteers

We are pulling cats tomorrow. I have no idea on how many based on who can be caught and who we have placement for. They will need transport tomorrow for a few potentially to Burnsville and Forest lake possibly. This is an evolving situation and don't have a ton of info at this point. Looking for people who can be on call and flexible. Will post updates here.

Had a dumb accident. Fell with an empty kennel. Sprained my wrist bad. Only have use of one hand right now. I may be slower to respond. Please be patient with me during this time. My assistant and husband have really stepped up on animal care so I have plenty of help. Ty for your understanding.

Introducing the newest additions. Mama and babies are thriving.

I wanted to give a shout out to SNAP'T Cat Rescue for believing and working with us little guys. They donated a huge bag of flea and tick preventative/treatment that will help us help so many more cats. This will help out tremendously. Thank you so much! We look forward to a positive working relationship in the future. 'T cat rescue.

Update we are up to 5 babies doing well. Mom might be done. Contractions have slowed but you never know. Babies latched on and are nursing. Sorry for lack of updates but it got real busy for a minute.

08/16/2024

Fyi I am not looking for a volunteer at this point. I am looking for another experienced rescuer to come forward.

Long story short. A lady in Rosemount. Her grandfather passed away. He left behind 25 some cats. House hasn't been lived in a about 5 years. But family has been feeding the cats. From what I am told they are semi feral. Estate sale is happening on Monday. The house will be turned over to a new owner. New owner will dispose of cats. Whatever that means. If turned over to the humane society or animal control they will euthanize everyone they told care taker. There is a mom with 3 kittens I will be taking but there is one other cat very pregnant. I just can't make room for right now. It is just not in the budget. We can only get cats out on Sunday. Monday it's over they no longer have access to the property. I know realistically no one can take on 25 semi feral cats but can anyone atleast take the pregnant mom and save her and her babies. If you can message me. We don't have time for a lot of other options. The family has exhausted all rescue options at this point. Just hoping she can be saved somehow.

Oliver is finally going home. Poor guy had a rough time as a kitten and also had an umbilical hernia that needed to be fixed surgically. He is fully vetted but due to no fault of his own, he had 2 adoptions fall through before they even met him. One person was a total fruit loop and I couldn't go through with the adoption so they were turned down. The second person didn't talk to there landlord before applying and can't have cats but than we met Jen last week. He is finally going to his forever home at 4pm.

Volunteer opportunity

Research project.

Hi, I am looking for someone to compile a list of all cat and kitten food vendors and cat litter vendors. Example Iams, Purina, Tidy cats. These will used to reach out to vendors to ask for free donations to support our cause. I have had some luck getting coupouns from a few and figured it won't hurt to ask. Please email me the finished list to [email protected]. if you decide to work on this, please sign up under comments so everyone knows someone is doing it. Thanks so much!

So we took in this mom and single baby. Mama has had quite the journey before coming to us. She was abandoned shortly after birth. A nice lady who use to do rescue and can't because of health reasons found her abandoned and her other two kittens were decreased. She took them and got them to safety at a vet clinic. She could not care for her due to surgery complications. Care taker has been in and out of the hospital so making arrangements has been tough. The vet that took her completely vetted her for free and housed her but was worried as were we that being housed in a vet clinic that sees sick animals was not the best place to raise your young when the baby has very little immunity. She reached out to us for help and one of our transport volunteers was able to pick her up and get her to her foster home. She is getting all settled in and mama is the sweetest. Good luck mama and ty to all the people that stepped up to care for mama and her single baby till help could be arranged.

I want to give a big shout out to the North Minneapolis Pet Resource center for there donations of pelleted litter. They gave us a roughly between 4 and 6 bags of litter and a bunch of supplies. We are so grateful. Thank you guys for believing in us little people. We need help to. If anyone has time to write a letter to them thanking them for there donations and there willingness to work with us small guys. I would so appreciate it. Contact me for address and post below when you have sent the ty letter. You can sign it "A supporter of Katy's Kritters Safe Haven". Ty for your time.

This is the very pregnant female we took in today. She came from another hoarding environment. She actually looks pretty healthy but we will be expecting babies soon. Whatever you believe, please send us good vibes, good mojo, blessings and prayers for an uncomplicated delivery and healthy mom and kittens. She is young and a first time mom and we got her very late in pregnancy so I am a bit worried for her.

Urgent transport request

Hi I need help. This is super short notice but very urgent. We have a mom cat that had 3 kittens and only 1 baby still surviving. Caretaker is from the rescue world but is having serious health complications that have at times landed her in the hospital. The mama cat can't stay where she is at due to time constraints and that it's not the best place for her and her baby. We need to get her here tomorrow. I want to lighten the burden of the care taker. Anyone available tomorrow that can reach out to care taker to make arrangements to meet her in Elk River or Cambridge area? If you can help, please reach out to me via messenger ASAP.

These precious boys from the Frogtown house are finally healthy enough to go to foster care. They are super sweet and out going. They were very restless here and needed out of kennels and are very appreciative to there foster for giving them some time to be a part of a family.

Last rant post of the day. I am so sick of other animal welfare organizations that are all about the money and the corporate red tape instead about helping the animal and the community. All rescuers got into this initially to help animals in crisis but lately it seems a lot of organizations have lost site of that. It also seems that other animal rescue organizations have been rude or not helpful to the public. As a rescuer it is your job not only to help the animal but also try to help the community as a whole. I am sick of hearing from the public they reached out to organizations for help and all they got when in crisis is "not our problem, we can't help". All of us are overworked, under staffed and overwhelmed with the current animal crisis. However it is the responsibility of the organization if they can't directly help to try to give resources or referrals and to ensure the person has a plan that's doable if you can't help. It is time to get back to the basics of putting the animal first, than the community. It is time to have a little non judgemental compassion. It is not about the money. Infact if you are getting rich in animal rescue, you are doing it wrong. I am broke as a joke but couldn't be happier. Who is with me?

08/14/2024

I don't normally go against another animal rescue organization. However people need to know what is going on at the Animal Humane Society. They have made some poor decisions as of late that haven't put animal welfare first.

1. Frogtown is one of the worst areas for stray and feral cats. Multiple community members have took time and there own money to tnr cats. They just closed there only low cost spay/neuter clinic in Frogtown and this was an only resource for multiple community members to be able to get to for spay/neuter services. To give you an idea Pet Haven just applied for a grant to help these cats because it's so bad. They received 93,000 dollars to clean up the problem. Animal Humane Society has the most funding compared to most private rescues.
-They are putting declawed cats that aren't social or deemed feral on farms. They have no defenses to protect themselves from predators or other cats. This is a death sentence.
-If a cat shows any stress in the shelter environment they are deemed feral and put on farms. Some of these cats have never been outside and have no idea how to survive.
-They are also putting kittens on farms that are showing less than desirable behavior in a stressful shelter setting. Putting a kitten in a farm this late in the year. Is a slow, horrible, guaranteed death.
-AHS use to spay and neuter ferals for free. They now charge the community and independent rescuers. $75.00 a cat. The community and independent rescuers can now only afford to help half as many cats. We are currently in the middle of a cat crisis that has reached epidemic proportions.

Please spread the word. Do not surrender cats to them unless you don't care what happens to them. Boycott them. Do not use there services or give them any donations. They are not putting animal welfare first any longer and they have a huge responsibility to do so. It is time they step up and full full there obligations. We as a community need to say not ok!

08/14/2024

I know we are all full but I desperately need a foster home for a few cats. Even if someone could commit to short term foster care for a max of 60 days it will help tremendously. Please reach out to people you know and see if they would be willing. All 3 females have come from the same place and could be fostered together or separate. Here is a little about the cats and why they need a foster.

-8 month old female-Extremely friendly and outgoing. Needs more space than I can provide. Literally going nuts in a kennel. Just needs a room to explore.
-adult female cat- Extremely friendly and outgoing. Also going nuts in a kennel. Needs a room to explore and get out energy.
-Possibly pregnant female that is sweet but extremely shut down and depressed. Is a hider and needs someone that can help provide a quiet low stress environment to work on socialization skills. It is too chaotic here with the other animals to come out of her shell. She needs socialization before a rescue will step up and take her.

If you or anyone you know has a spare room, please let me know. Ty so much.
