Happy Fourth of July from Blue Oaks! While we celebrate with fireworks and fun, the Fourth of July can be stressful and even dangerous for our furry friends.

Here are a few ways to help keep your pets safe:

🔒 Keep pets indoors: Fireworks can trigger fear and escape attempts. Set up a safe, quiet space inside your home.

🎧 Muffle the noise: Use calming music, fans, or TV to mask outside sounds.

🆔 Secure ID tags and update microchip registration: Make sure your pet can be easily identified should they get out of the house or leave your outdoor event.

💊 Ask us about anxiety support: For nervous pets, calming options are available.

🔥 Keep pets away from grills and fire pits: Hot surfaces and flames are hazards.

🍗 BBQ Food Safety for Pets:
🚫 No bones- Cooked bones can splinter and cause serious injury.
🚫 No fatty scraps- Too much fat can lead to pancreatitis.
🚫 No onions, garlic, grapes, or alcohol- These are toxic to pets.
✅ Offer pet-safe treats instead – Frozen peanut butter, carrots, or vet-approved chews.

🎇 Leave pets at home: Fireworks shows and crowded gatherings can be overwhelming and unsafe for our pets.

Enjoy a safe and happy Fourth of July holiday! Just be sure your pets enjoy it safely too!

What’s better than seeing a Maine C**n? Seeing two!

Meet Calcifer (11-month-old orange floof) and Shinobi (1 year and 4 months, rocking that smoky coat). These two majestic boys came in for their wellness visits and absolutely stole the show.

Maine C**ns are known for their large size, gentle nature, and show-stopping good looks. Calcifer and Shinobi are no exception. We loved spending time with them and making sure they’re staying happy and healthy.

Big cats. Big hearts. Bigger cuddles.

From the coast of California to the green fields of Northern Ireland, Blue Oaks pride can be felt far from Roseville.

Dr. Thompson's Uncle Danny is seen here reppin' our logo while working sheep in Ireland. Shannon was enjoying the coast while sporting her Blue Oaks hoodie! Whether it’s farm boots or flip-flops, we love seeing our Blue Oaks family show their support near and far. We may be rooted in Roseville, but our pride travels well beyond the clinic walls.

We had a full bunny day in the clinic and loved every fluffy minute.

🐰 Gizmo, a lionhead rabbit, was spayed and charmed the whole team with her fluff and calm attitude.

🐰 Oreo (well the name speaks for itself) came in for a molar adjustment and was an absolute star patient.

🐰 Bunnerz cozied up with Rem during recovery after anesthesia. We take post-op snuggles seriously here.

Caring for small mammals like rabbits is one way we open our arms to everyone in the community. There isn't a patient too big or small for our team! From spays to dental care to gentle recovery, we’re here for your furry, feathered, or floppy-eared pet companions.

You might remember Layla Paul from one of our recent posts. Her joy and playful energy left quite an impression.

When she wasn’t feeling her best, Layla stayed with us for a few days to rest and recover. During her stay, we made sure she had everything she needed to feel safe and supported: a variety of puréed food options to tempt her appetite, gentle outdoor time for fresh air and breaks, and of course, a whole lot of love.

Every patient at Blue Oaks is family to us. We will always ensure your pet companions get the care they need when they need it.

Gizmo was in recently for a laser therapy session and easily earned the title of most stylish cat in the clinic that day (don’t tell Ferg 😉). We loved treating Gizmo and all that fluff that comes with the cutest face!

Laser therapy is a gentle, drug-free way to help our feline friends feel better and heal faster. It's completely non-invasive, and cats like Gizmo often find the sessions relaxing, even nap-worthy.

👍 Benefits of laser therapy for cats:
• Reduces pain and inflammation
• Promotes faster healing of wounds or post-surgery recovery
• Improves mobility in senior or arthritic cats
• Stress-free, no sedation or needles
• Helps manage chronic issues like gingivitis or ear inflammation

If you’ve got a kitty dealing with discomfort, arthritis, or recurring issues, ask us if laser therapy is a good fit. 📱(916) 771-6930

Abby wanted to stop by again to share some summer safety tips! With temperatures on the rise, it’s important to help your pets stay safe and cool!

Heatstroke in dogs and cats can happen fast. Watch for:
• Excessive panting or drooling
• Weakness or unsteadiness
• Vomiting or diarrhea
• A bright red tongue and pale gums
• Collapse or unresponsiveness

If you see these signs, move your pet to a cool area and call your vet right away.

☀️ Never leave pets in cars (even for a few minutes)
💧 Offer plenty of water throughout the day
🐾 Protect paws from hot pavement (If it’s too hot for your bare hand or foot, it’s too hot for their paws!)
🧴 Use dog-safe sunscreen on exposed skin like the nose, lips, and ears
🌳 Take breaks in the shade and limit exercise during peak heat
🐶 Short-nosed breeds, puppies and kittens, and senior pets need extra care in the heat

When in doubt, keep outdoor adventures early in the morning or after the sun sets.

Enjoy the summer sun SAFELY.

Did someone say duckling?! Because Suzie might be the cutest visitor we’ve had all spring. Her visit to Blue Oaks gave everyone something to quack about!

This sweet 4-day-old bundle of fluff stole the hearts of everyone she met. Snuggly, sleepy, and full of charm- Shannon and Rebecca just couldn't resist her cuteness. Have we mentioned we LOVE ❤️ what we do!?

At Blue Oaks, care always starts with connection.

Before his treatment for his ear infection, Enzo got plenty of love and comfort from Haley. Whether it’s a routine visit or a little extra attention for something like an ear infection, we make sure every patient feels safe, calm, and cared for.

Enzo clearly knows where the best snuggles are.
