Is your pet microchipped and registered? At Blue Oaks Veterinary Clinic we use HomeAgain microchips and strongly recommend that all pets are microchipped and registered with a reputable company. If you don’t know whether your pet is microchipped, or what company their microchip is made by please feel free to come by so we can scan them for you!

As many people have heard, Save This Life microchips are no longer registered due to the company going out of business.

Pet owners looking to transfer their Save This Life microchip enrollment can do so with HomeAgain at no charge. With over 25 years of experience and powered by Merck Animal Health, HomeAgain has reunited over 3 million pets with their families.

For pet owners looking to transfer their pet's Save This Life microchip enrollment to the HomeAgain database for free, use code EnrollSTL on homeagain.com or call 1-888-HOMEAGAIN (1-888-466-3242). Due to high call volumes, we expect some delays if calling in. Have your pet's Save This Life microchip number handy and let the customer care agent know that you were referred by your veterinarian.

Once enrolled, your pet will have a lifetime enrollment in our HomeAgain database and 1 free year of our premium membership with added services. If you choose not to renew your premium membership benefits, your pet's recovery information remains in the HomeAgain Recovery Database, and you can always maintain and update your profile and contact information at no charge.

A well-fitted harness can make walks safer and more comfortable for both you and your pup! Unlike collars, harnesses help reduce strain on the neck, allow better support for breathing, offer better control, and are great for training—especially for dogs who love to pull. Plus, they come in all kinds of styles to fit every dog’s needs!

📸Does your pup rock a harness on walks? Drop a pic in the comments—we’d love to see them strut their stuff!

📅 February is Spay & Neuter Awareness Month! 📅

Max might be giving us the ultimate “blep” 😛, but he’s all comfy and cozy after his neuter procedure with our team at Blue Oaks Veterinary Clinic! Spaying and neutering are essential steps in keeping our feline friends healthy while also helping prevent pet overpopulation.

Here’s why spaying and neutering your cat is so important:

✔️ Health Benefits – Neutering reduces the risk of testicular cancer, while spaying lowers the chances of mammary tumors and uterine infections.
✔️ Better Behavior – Neutered cats are less likely to spray, roam, or get into fights.
✔️ Helping the Community – Fewer litters mean fewer homeless cats in shelters looking for families.

Max’s silly tongue-out moment is proof that he’s in good hands and on his way to a happy, healthy life! Does your pet have a hilarious “blep” moment or have you recently spayed or neutered your pet? Drop a pic in the comments! 📸

🧐 Ear Mites: What Every Pet Owner Should Know! 🐰🐶🐱

Ear mites may be tiny, but they can cause BIG discomfort for our furry friends! These microscopic parasites love to take up residence in the ears of rabbits, cats, dogs, and other small animals, leading to itchiness and irritation. But don’t worry—ear mites are treatable and preventable!

What Are Ear Mites?
Ear mites are tiny parasites that live in the ear canal, feeding on skin debris. They are highly contagious between animals but cannot live on humans.

How Do You Know If Your Pet Has Ear Mites?
🚨 Look out for these signs:
✔️ Frequent ear scratching or head shaking
✔️ Dark, coffee ground-like debris in the ears
✔️ Red, inflamed, or scabby ears
✔️ Excessive ear wax or a strong odor

How to Prevent Ear Mites
✅ Regular ear checks and cleaning (Ask us for safe methods!)
✅ Keep your pet’s bedding clean and dry
✅ Avoid contact with infected animals
✅ Routine veterinary checkups to catch issues early

If you are concerned or suspect your pet may have ear mites, don't hesitate to schedule a consultation with us.

🖊️Casually knock your pen off the table… just because she can

It’s all part of her master plan—to steal hearts and cause just the right amount of playful mischief. And honestly, who could resist? 💖
