Horses are such good medicine 🥰 it feels so good to be riding again. I'm super thankful that I'm finally used to my work schedule enough that I can get up and ride in the mornings before work. It was a little depressing getting my job at Peterbilt and having to quit training horses. Working evenings was hard to get used to, but I've finally adapted lol. I think working out every night and eating right and taking better care of my body has really given me more energy and improved my mental health as well ❤️🥰 I'll be taking in one outside horse a month throughout this summer. I think that's all I can handle at the moment, which is a good thing for the horse I'm riding! All my extra time, focus and energy outside of work can be put into that horse. Unwritten rules for a cowboy:

Never ask to go back to a place you were invited to as a guest without being invited again.

Never leave the trailer without an extra rope and tie strings.

Never cut in front of a fellow cowboy horseback.

Never be late 30 minutes early is a plus.

Not everyone loves your dog as much as you do so
keep em im check or leave em home.

Don’t brag about how many broncs you’ve stomped or cows you’ve roped.

You aren’t Wyatt Earp so don’t act like it.

Don’t claim you got it done when you have to call in for someone with a 4 wheeler.

Don’t ride off before the boss.

Don’t hoop and holler more than needed they asked for day help not a noise maker.

Respect your fellow cowboys.

Workin cattle is never a race.

Keep your head down and work hard cause you never know when you’ll ride your last horse.

Mares aren’t always well liked and for the same reasons strong women aren’t.

Opinionated? Those opinions are not without good cause and maybe you can't figure them out or maybe you just don’t like her opinion of you. Change it and she will always be on your side.

Stubborn? She just won’t let you bulldoze her. Treat her with respect and her resilience will be an asset to you.

Difficult? You just can’t handle her. You don’t have what it takes.

Stick with geldings then, and leave the mare for someone who understands her and appreciates the same qualities society has subtlety taught you not to like.

Here’s to mares, to strong women, and to those who CAN and DO appreciate them!
