We are here to talk to you today about one of the most important days of the year! And yes, it is more important than taking a catnap – it is National Cat Day! It’s a day to get all the love, cuddles, premium cat treats and pampering possible! How do you plan to pamper your cat today? -Coco & Kiki

That’s right Coco & Kiki! National Cat Day is the the purrfect time to celebrate wonderful cats such as you two! We all have great cats that we can celebrate today to let them know that we appreciate all the special gifts that they bring into our lives on a daily basis. And if you don’t have a cat in your home to celebrate National Cat Day, you are in luck because Coco & Kiki are available for adoption.

Coco & Kiki are beautiful grey and black tabby sisters born on 4/2/2021. They came to our rescue as their family went through a divorce and had to move away. These sisters have a tight bond and do everything together. They are a sweet and playful pair and certified lap kitties. Their ideal home is one without other animals. Did you know that today is National Black Cat Day, a day to honor and celebrate us, the best little mini-panthers in the world?! -Raven Lee

That’s right, Raven Lee! Today is a well-deserved day to honor and celebrate you! And to help us honor fabulous mini panthers, here are some fun facts about black cats.

There are more male black cats than female black cats. Male kittens inherit their fur color from their mothers so a male born to a black female will be black too. The coloring of the father will be involved but the dominant black gene will always rule.

Most black cats have yellow (golden) eyes which is due to their genetic makeup. True onyx-hued cats produce a lot of melanin. This pigment makes their coats black and their eyes a captaining amber shade which is an extremely rare eye color in humans.

There are 22 breeds that come with black coats and some black cats aren’t actually pure black only the Bombay. Some of the coat color patterns are actually a combination of three basic colors such as black, white and red.

Some parts of the world (like England, Scotland or Japan) consider black cats good luck but unfortunately, many still associate them with misfortune and bad luck.

Fishermen and their wives saw black cats as good luck (or a safe journey) with the added benefit of fewer rats. They welcomed them aboard their ships and in their homes. Black cats became so highly valued that some could not afford them.

Researchers at the National Institute of Health discovered that the genetic mutation that causes a cat’s fur to be black also protects them from certain diseases.
Research by ASPCA show that black cats are least likely to be adopted but thanks to black panther more house panthers have been able to find their furrever homes.

It may seem like a small gesture to you, but to one cat it could mean the entire world. So take a moment, show them love, genuine care, and generosity - because that one brief moment could easily change a cat’s life trajectory.

Our volunteers have always recognized that even the smallest acts of kindness will truly make a big difference in the world. And fittingly today is nationally recognized as Make a Difference Day. A day that is a perfect time to step up to “make a difference.” A difference that you can easily make in many different ways whether it’s financial or of your physical time.

Please consider adopting one of our available cats or kittens (website link in bio) and if adoption is not feasible, please consider fostering one of our cats in need. If fostering isn’t a good option then we have several ways to volunteer with our rescue. Visit the volunteer pages of our website to learn more about the volunteer opportunities available with our organization and fill out a volunteer application if you are interested in becoming a volunteer with All About Cats.

Those who do not have the time to volunteer are welcome to donate to support our cause. Be assured that 100% of the tax-free donation will go to support our cats. Meet Lacy, a beautiful black and white cat born on 7/19/23. Elegant and graceful, Lacy will bring a special joy into your home. She is a very loving cat who wants little more than a place to sleep, preferably a lap, or someone to carry her around. Lacy is a recent mother cat who, tiny as she is, raised five healthy kittens. She is now ready to find her forever home and let someone take care of her. In return, you will get a curious, affectionate cat who starts purring at the sight of you. Lacy is good with other cats and with dogs. She’ll just need a little time to get used to other pets. But she would also do well as an only cat, because she absolutely loves attention! Meet Chong, a charming buff-colored kitten was named after the legendary duo, Cheech and Chong. Born on 4/20, Chong is a mix of playfulness and affection. His soft, sandy fur and soothing purr make him an irresistible companion. Chong loves to explore and play, keeping you entertained with his curious antics. Ideally, Chong would love to be adopted with his sibling Cheech or go to a home where he will have a playmate.

Hey there! Do you see this poster someone put up on our window?! It’s a cat adoption fair at VCA! I think you should go check it out! They will have a food truck! -Simon.

That’s right Simon! We will participate at a cat adoption fair with our vet partner VCA Pets are People Too Roswell Animal Hospital. The event will be held on Friday, October 18 from 11AM-3PM and the location is VCA at 535 Sunvalley Dr, Roswell, Georgia 30076. Everyone is welcome to stop by! Tres Jardines’s food truck will be onsite so you can even enjoy lunch at this event!

Meet our handsome meowdel, Simon! He has beautiful markings and the cutest little white socks on his feet that complement his white fur bib. Just pet this kitty and you will agree that he is as soft as silk – and handsome too! His luxurious fur, with marble markings add to his unique charm. Simon loves pets but he won’t pester you for attention. He is very well-behaved and enjoys playing and grooming time with his buddy Tobey. They enjoy games of hide-and-seek and wrestling together. Meet Mash, the most precious super sweet orange and white tabby born on 7/3/24. This affectionate girl is a little quiet compared to some of her rambunctious siblings with the sweetest little meow. She definitely loves to play and have fun..Mash loves to nap in the cat tree or in front of the window. She also loves to run and tackle her brothers even though she is the smallest of the bunch! Meet Tobey, a distinguished senior feline with a very warm heart. He will welcome you with a loud “meow” and will declare a dissatisfied “meow” when you leave. Tobey loves getting pets. Just wiggle your fingers or tap your hand on the sofa, and he will come up next to you for affection. He lets you know he enjoys your pets by activating his purring motor. Tobey will make a wonderful companion who will enjoy sitting next to you on the sofa, bed or floor. Now that it is officially fall, it is legal to taste the pumpkin spice! I live for this! -Pumpkin.

That’s right, Pumpkin! This season as we embrace the cooler autumn weather and pumpkin spice everything, you should be front and center because we could all use more pumpkin in our lives!

Meet Pumpkin, an adorably soft Torti girl born on 4/9/22 with the most lovely pattern on her face. Though she is shy at first, she warms up to her favorite things – being scratched behind her ears and gently pet on her cute little head. Her foster family says Pumpkin can be cautious around new things and situations but she really can’t resist love from humans. She is laid back and peaceful and doesn’t have a sassy tortitude. We believe Pumpkin will sprout in a calmer, loving home that could have older children who understand kitties. For any of our neighbors and friends who frequent PetSmart near Roswell High, one of our long term residents was adopted tonight by the best mom and dad!

Atticus came to us 14 months ago when he was two months old after he, his sister, and his mother were all abandoned at an automotive body shop. Thankfully someone reached out to our rescue so that we could help this family find their purrever homes. Mom, Heidi and sister, Lexi learned to trust humans much faster than Atticus and were adopted pretty soon after they received all of their necessary medical care.

Atticus, on the other hand, took several months and multiple containers of Churu to learn to trust us. He spent time in at least eight different foster homes during this time when he wasn't in the cat room at Petsmart running the show and reminding the cleaners that he was the boss.

His new mom and dad recently lost their 17-year-old dog, Tiger to old age. Mom grew up with cats, but didn't have any as an adult. Their adult daughter has since adopted her own cat, and Mom and Dad have loved getting to spend time with their daughter's cat over recent years.

After Tiger passed, they realized they may want to get a cat for this phase of life rather than another dog. Mom has been visiting Petsmart often over the past several weeks, and of course, Atticus stole her heart. Mom and Dad spent a lot of time with him this evening one on one with Atticus, and they got right on the floor with him and gave him all the love and attention he's been craving and only recently learned how to receive. It didn't take long for him to start purring and realize this was his purrever family.

We couldn't be more thrilled for this sweet boy, and we're so thankful to be part of a cat rescue who loves on all the kitties, even the ones who take a long time to learn to trust and receive love.
