🧡🖤 It's almost Halloween! 🖤🧡

Check out some of the safety reminders for your pets from our friends at Trupanion.

🎃 Candy and other treats that contain xylitol are very toxic for dogs.

🎃 Opening the door to greet trick-or-treaters might give your pets a chance to escape, so make sure they are wearing ID.

🎃 If you are getting your pets into the spirit with a costume, make sure it's a comfortable fit and doesn't have pieces they can easily chew on.

🎃 Lit jack-o-lantern candles and pets don't mix. Keep your fur babies away from open flame! 🔥

At Heart of Texas, we are so excited to celebrate our awesome vet techs! We have provided lots of treats for our techs to enjoy, including a masseuse! 🥰🍪

😇 If your pet has ever been to our hospital, our compassionate vet techs surely helped with their care. Hopefully you got to meet these hardworking folks, but many of them also work behind the scenes caring for patients 24/7. 🐶🐱

Hey y'all, meet Riley! 🥰

Riley came to see our amazing emergency team after he got into a large amount of a medication meant for humans. 😣 This medication causes toxicity in pets and has serious effects. Riley was admitted to our hospital in a comatose state and remained on oxygen support for the better part of a day. Our team worked around the clock to provide treatment to counteract the toxicity and monitor for any complications. Riley responded well to treatment and was able to begin breathing on his own, then regained function in his limbs. 🐕 He went home after spending two days in our care.

🙌 We are so glad that his dad brought him to see us and that he has been doing well at home! 🐾

Meet this good boy, Blue! 🥰

Blue was treated to a trifecta of care at Heart of Texas, getting seen by our emergency, surgery and dentistry departments! He came to our emergency room after he ran into a parked trailer while chasing squirrels. 🐿😖 Our emergency doctor found lacerations on his head, and partnered with our dentist to get a cone beam CT (CBCT) scan performed. A CBCT is used to diagnose issues in and around the skull and jaw. 💀

The CBCT scan revealed that Blue had a depression fracture over his left lateral frontal sinus. 👃 This sinus cavity sits right between a dog's eyes. Our emergency doctor sought the advice of our board-certified surgeon, Dr. Vasanjee, and our board-certified dentist/oral surgeon, Dr. Nyquist, to see which surgical option would be best for Blue.

Dr. Nyquist performed the surgical repair of the frontal sinus and Blue did great! Blue is now home and back to his old self. 💙
