These 2 guys filled my heart so full of joy today...Chance, The little black one is about 18 months old...Saved from a slaughter trailer at around 3 to 5 months...dont know exactly how old he is....
The spoted TWH Mitch is 10 years old and the most sensitive horse Ive evern known...They are my youngest horses...Well handled but I need to spend more training time with both....
Withe extreme temperatures they needed to be blanketed...Mitch has had a blanket on before, once about 7 years ago...Chance had never seen a blanket...I had been introing tarps and both are not afraid of them...It was after dark last night and i knew better to attempt to blanket either one in the dark ..The both have healthy coats and good wind blocked shelters...made sure they had a hot meal and oodles of hay...They were fine over night...So about noon today I tackled the job of introing a blanket to Chance...Oh My! he was sooo good.. once he smelled it up and tasted it he stood like a pro as I rubbed it on him then unfolded it and laid it on his back..Then in about 2 minutes i had it buckled and adjusted...Chance acted as if we had done this 100 times...I am soo proud of him..once i removed his halter and set him free he just stood there exploring his new duds.
Mitch just showed me what a pro he is at blanketing, this was just the second time in 10 years...memory like a steel trap...When I finished and set him free he swung his head around so we were nose to nose then took his muzzle and rubbed my cheek 3 times saying "Thank you mom, I love you". yeah I was tearing up...he had never done that before..
update...today Mitch hugged me for he first time.
Yesterday was spa day for the horses...You can see Lyla was not ready for it to be over....She still thinks she is a bitty baby...when she is 16hh and 1100lbs...
Lazarus, first meal on momma.
Lazarus has just learned to latch on...
Momma still is far from 100% but with pain meds there is some improvement...
Libby's brood.
Update: Libby has taken in 2 more chicks....the ducklings do not need to snuggle under her so some of the older chicks snuggle with the ducklings and the younger under Libby.
I named her Libby in honor of a young woman with mental challenges who lived in Philpot Ky in the 50s 60s and 70s She always had a baby on her hip and 2 by the hand. Worlds best and greatest baby sitter...never knew her last name or even met her but i observed her for 20 years. My mom spoke highly of her. (Mom rarely spoke highly of anyone.)
Don't know whatever happened to this woman but her name sake i hope would make her smile.
This is Libby and her brood.
Early blue berries.
Early blueberries clusters!! Yum!

Welcome Caleb to Oak Creek Farm.
He is only moments old here. You can see the steam rising off him. Mother, Holly and son doing well.
Magdalene
Maggie loves scratches...11 month old mini jersey heifer.
Oak creek mini Jerseys.
My little herd of mini jerseys in the cool of this morning...
MOCHA
Mocha the mini Jersey bull teaching his son Adam how to head butt...This bull amazes me...he is a better daddy than many human males. He baby sits his offspring...he plays with them daily and protects them 24/7. This is his first group of calves....Mocha just turned 3 in April...He is good natured, loves to have his ears and shoulders scratched. Looking forward to many more years with this little guy. (38")
