“How Are the Animals?” It’s the question on everyone’s mind.
On Wednesday night, our staff stayed at the shelter until the early hours of the morning — evacuating every single animal and making sure they were safe and cared for. That’s 75 animals who suddenly needed new homes, new spaces, and lots of love.
🐾 Dogs were set up in our outdoor yards for the evening and then placed into foster care the very next day.
🐾 Cats & kittens spent the night at our Learning Center in wire kennels, and most were sent to foster homes by the following day.
While we’d love to say everyone is happy, healthy, and thriving, the truth is more complicated. Many cats and dogs are stressed, and some are being treated for stomach upset. Our feral cats remain in kennels because we currently have no way to return them outdoors, where they’d be most comfortable. And our ringworm kittens — already a special-needs group — are still undergoing treatment, with a few now battling upper respiratory infections since that fateful day.
Yes, many of our dogs and cats are soaking up love in their foster homes. But we are still working hard every single day to improve the quality of life for those who remain in our care.
