We are a non-profit rescue dedicated to ending the suffering of animals. We operate through a network of dedicated and amazing volunteers.

VIDA (Volunteers in Defense of Animals) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization founded in 2015 by a group of passionate volunteers who have been working for years to end the mistreatment and suffering of animals. Our mission is to protect and help dogs and cats from homelessness, neglect, abuse, cruelty, and abandonment. We provide medical care, shelter, and food, for homeless animals. We sponsor spay

and neuter campaigns for communities in need within Mexico & Guatemala. Our vision is to see the end of mistreatment & exploitation of animals and assist each & every one into a loving home.

🐾MEET MOJO!!🐾 He is a 4-year-old 17lb Chihuahua Mix
Mojo is extremely sweet. He loves to cuddle & is loving to everyone he meets. Mojo is special as he is a Chihuahua with very long legs making him a lot taller than the typical Chihuahua. He can be cat tested upon request.
If you are not located near our rescue or if the drive is a problem for you, please still apply, as we bring animals out to as far as San Diego in order to bring them to their forever homes. If an animal is posted, they are VERY likely available.

Come join us THIS Saturday (Nov. 2nd) from 10am-1pm for another adoption event!!🐶
With the exception of a few furry friends who were adopted- all dogs who attended last event will come with us again this weekend. So if you missed out last weekend, come visit this weekend and meet our lovely furry friends!!🐾🐾
We will also be taking donations at the event as well so if you have towels, blankets, sheets, anything dog or cat related (food, treats, bowls, leashes, etc.), cleaning supplies, etc., don’t be shy to bring them over!!😊

We also had a VERY EXCITING adoption happen!!!
This past weekend at the Barktober event in Costa Mesa hosted by , one of our LONGEST residents BOWIE got adopted!!!
Bowie has been in foster homes for some time- he came in knowing commands such as sit, paw, lay down, LOVES fetch, & so much more + being SO well behaved. Bowie always got passed up while he watched all the small and younger dogs get adopted. BUT, Bowie finally got his shot at a home & INSTANTLY fell in love with his new owners and they LOVED him!! We are beyond happy for Bowie and his new family!!🫶🏻

🚨🚨FOSTER NEEDED ASAP🚨🚨
Meet HONEY!! She is a 2-year-old Shepherd Mix. She is super sweet but needs someone who can be slow and patient with her. Honey comes off scared when first meeting someone but once she understands she can trust you, she will be your best friend❤️
We do not have any room at the shelter for her as we have been bombarded with dogs from the city. WE NEED YOUR HELP ASAP!!!!! Honey will be back at the shelter tomorrow and will have no where to be placed. WE NEED A FOSTER FOR HER!!! PLEASE SHARE WITH EVERYONE YOU KNOW. Honey will not get better in a shelter environment, she needs to be in a home where she can get love 24/7 & help with trusting people.
Honey has had the wonderful opportunity to be in a Foster home to better help her trust issues & her confidence. Unfortunately her foster can no longer foster her due to relocating. Honey truly is the sweetest girl. She just has a very hard time trusting people from previous trauma before landing at VIDA. Her foster shared some info on her to share with the next foster:
“She has a hard time with walks and isn’t great on a leash, she uses p*e pads probably half the time and goes outside the other half of the time. And as I’m sure you know - she’s super shy. It’s been three months and she and I are super bonded but she won’t let my roommates anywhere near her.

But once she bonds with you, she is so sweet and loyal!!”
Honey needs someone who will go slow & stay calm with her. When Honey trusts you, she is extremely loyal & loving. But she just needs someone to go slow and be patient with her.

We are happy to announce we will be joining and and many other animal rescues & vendors for an event in Encinitas CA @ Encinitas Community Park CA JULY SUNDAY 21 from 10AM-3PM!!

Four Months ago, Arora & her 6 puppies found VIDA Rescue. In 2 months of them being here, all 6 puppies found their homes, Arora…. she sat back and watched them all leave. 4 Months and she had 1 Adoption Appointment… the appointment where she instantly found her family❤️ We are beyond happy to watch her finally go home. We watched her transform into such a great, sweet, & loving girl. Arora got along with every dog she met & was always happy to be included🫶🏻 Congratulations Arora🥹🥳 you found your home❤️ . . MEET NASH🐾🐾 Nash came to us in July from another rescue after he was found in horrible condition from the city- @welcomehomedogrescue reached out to us for help and we immediately took him to him in! Nash was covered in fleas, flea dirt, dermatitis, & mange. He immediately got medicated baths to help with everything his skin was going through. We are happy to say Nash made an AMAZING RECOVERY, he’s full of wiggles & pure love & is just so happy to be here. . . Nash is a 1-year-old 36lb English Bulldog Mix. He is such a sweetheart & friendly to everyone he meets. Nash is great with other dogs & is great with children of all ages. Nash would make a great family dog dur to his funny personality, playfulness, & so much love to share. Nash can be cat tested upon request.
