🚨 Urgent! These sweet dogs are at risk!🚨

Betty, Ivy, & Smock!

We need your help to save the lives of these three wonderful dogs. These pups (and many others that we have available) are incredible in their own way but are struggling to find homes. Please share and help spread the word! Their individual bios can be found in our Available album.
These dogs need YOU! If you're interested in adopting, fostering, or simply sharing their story, please get in touch. Let's work together to give them the future they deserve! 🏡💙

It's the time of year where we begin seeing countless number of beagles and hounds enter the shelter, as many become separated from their owners during a hunt. These breeds are 2 of the 3 breeds we see the highest number of intakes of at our shelter, but unfortunately, the lowest number of rescues and adoptions if they are not reclaimed.

We are urging hunters to hunt responsibly with their dogs. Although it is not a requirement for dogs in the process of a hunt to wear Rabies tags, we highly recommend having your hunting dogs microchipped or having identification secured to the collar for ease of contact should your dog enter the shelter, or be found by someone. Tracking collars are beneficial as well. Most importantly--come look for your dog if you find that one or more of your dogs is missing from your pack!

For the general public, we ask that you give these dogs some time to find their pack and their handlers. Immediately removing them from the area they are found in can be more detrimental to getting them back home. Many of these dogs are simply passing through different properties looking for game as they have been trained, but some simply become separated from their pack. Also, please be aware that it is illegal to remove tracking collars or identification from an animal to prevent successful reclaim by its rightful owner.

If we all work together and are responsible hunters and community members, we can help these pups get back to their homes and continue their hunting adventures in the future!

As we close out another year at Person County Animal Services, it's a time to reflect on the incredible journey we've had—one filled with challenges, growth, heartwarming moments, and most importantly, the impact we've made together. Our mission has always been to provide compassionate care, shelter, and a second chance for the animals who need it most. This year, like every year, was a testament to the strength of our community and the animals we serve.
None of this would be possible without the tireless efforts of our incredible staff, volunteers, and donors. Your passion and commitment to our cause is what fuels us day in and day out. From the families who have opened their homes and hearts to the animals in need, to the local businesses and individuals who have generously donated their time, money, and resources, we are beyond grateful for each and every one of you!
We would like to extend a special thank you to our volunteers who give countless hours to walking dogs, cleaning kennels, fostering pets, and more. Your dedication does not go unnoticed, and you are the backbone of our shelter!
As we enter the new year, we are excited about the future. We will continue to push forward with our mission, striving to rescue more animals, build stronger community connections, and provide education on animal welfare. We are committed to improving the lives of the animals we care for, with plans for expanded adoption events, increased outreach efforts, and a focus on making our shelter a model of compassion and care.

There is still much work to be done, but with your ongoing support, we know we can achieve even more! Together, we can create a world where every animal has the love and care they deserve.

Thank you for making 2024 an unforgettable year for PCAS. Here’s to another year of saving lives, spreading kindness, and making a difference!
