Carolina Chinchilla Ranch is a hobby breeder of show quality chinchillas. Available by appointment. We offer boarding at $25 a week per chinchilla.

Carolina Chinchilla Ranch is a top quality chinchilla breeder and rescue located in northern North Carolina on the Virginia border. Our focus in breeding is to produce top quality, healthy and friendly chinchillas for you to enjoy as part of your family - whether they're pets, or to possibly start up your own herd. We devote our time and hearts into each individual animal born at my home. Tiffany

purchased her first pair of chinchillas back in high school. She began breeding chinchillas as a hobby and to just own them as pets. These amazing creatures really take over your life in no time. After attending her first chinchilla show in 2008, She revamped my breeding herd as she realized her breeding pairs weren't considered breeding quality. Education is the key - there is a large difference in a pet quality chinchilla and breeding quality chinchillas. Her husband Mackenzie decided to join in on the adventure in 2020. Find a mentor who actually knows what they're doing and ask many questions! Our chinchillas have bloodlines from top breeders and ranchers including Hummel, La Paloma, Ritterspach, Ryerson, Shoots and Whitewoods to name a few. We also have our own bloodlines and have purchased several herds over the years. We are members of the Mutation Chinchilla Breeders Association (MCBA) and Empress Chinchilla Breeders Cooperative (ECBC) registered under the ranch brand "MTDY" previously and currently under "TIFF". Tiffany is an Empress sanctioned show judge and has judged shows under both organizations. Tiffany started the ECBC Southern Atlantic Branch which comprises MD, VA, TN, NC and SC, and has sat on board as president since it began. We breed for standard gray, black velvet, white, beige and ebony and the recessive mutation violet. Our Mutations are bred back to top quality standards in order to increase quality in the offspring. We do not breed animals that are not pedigreed or that do not meet show quality standards. We take in chinchillas in need and allow owner surrenders, even though we are not a full time rescue. Our customers have ALWAYS been pleased with the chinchillas that we have produced and I hope that you will too! We custom make supplies for small animals that you won't find in a pet store but will be perfectly safe for your exotic animals and easy to deck out the cage! We have excellent prices and high quality products.

We currently have 2 single surrenders that need loving families. These were all surrendered due to no fault of their own. We are going to be running out of room to take in new surrenders since we always have boarders during the Summer and some coming in for long term boarding which takes up our surrender cages. Until these find homes, we will likely only be bringing in our own animals again instead of pet store chins.

Standard Gray Male - approximately 3 years old - also shy, but I can handle him

Standard Gray Male - approximately 2 years old - very easy to handle, was a classroom pet. Goes by Gustavo.

We have one Critter Nation cage that can go with the chins for an extra $75.

Note that these are all pet quality chinchillas, and were likely originally from pet stores. There is no guarantee when it comes to adopting a surrender since they were not originally raised by us. They do have low adoption fees.

I know you all have been waiting for my babies... mine still aren't ready to go yet, and only have a few grays that haven't been spoken for coming available end of the month.

Until then, we have some young options from a trustworthy breeder friend of ours that are ready to go!

Males are paired together and can go as a pair.

Non-refundable deposit is required for a hold. Hold lasts for 14 days. After that point, there is a fee per week to hold the animal if still interested or the deposit is forfeited.

Took a 2nd Place at MCBA Nationals this year, due to being "smaller in size" at 515g currently. I just don't think she fits well into my program at this time. Can be sold as a pet or breeder and will go with her ribbon.

We’ve had this guy for several weeks and he was spoken for, but the customer stopped contacting us and his hold has expired as of today. He is back up for adoption and comes with his cage and supplies seen in the last photo. Standard gray male, approximately 3 years old.

It’s been pretty slow around here, with just a few babies being born. Here is one of our males we’re hoping that will give us babies one day, sitting inside of the cage run. This is the top row of the cage where he is able to move from female to female with ease. The hole to the right allows him to jump in and visit.

All babies have been spoken for, for at least the next month and a half. We have 5 grays currently nursing that will be available middle to end of June.

Don’t forget that your used shavings can be composted and used in your vegetable beds. We always keep our shavings in a large pile and let them decay down into soil. Now, we do have a very large amount, but even the typical chinchilla owner that has shavings can use these to their benefit. We add them to the bottom of our raised beds and top with soil. We also use it around our trees in our back yard for mulch and on top of the ground for other plants. Don’t waste this stuff if you can use it!

Public Service Announcement:

The chinchilla community is full of scammers. Stop feeding them.

We constantly have to block spammers and scammers daily on our page that are posting their personal pages for animals for rehoming or adoption. These pages are 100% a scam every time. These scammers are stealing pictures from breeders all over the world to get your attention - offering delivery and stealing your money. The fact that buyers continue to fall for it is shocking. If you see someone posting a link to another group on our page, it's a scam.

No one is offering white chinchillas for $150 plus delivery - it's a scam.

No one is delivering right to your door for cheap - it's a scam. Personal delivery is very expensive!

Very few breeders provide delivery services in the US - when they do, it's usually a transport service where you have to meet along the interstate and the trip is posted well ahead of time by the delivery service.

If the seller has broken English, 99% of the time, it's a scam.

If it seems too good to be true, don't fall for it. Question for proof of the animal.

Research your seller before putting a deposit down or buying! They should have an actual page for their business or a website. You should be able to ask Empress Chinchilla or MCBA, Inc if they are involved with the breeder organizations. If they're not, most likely it's a scam.

If you choose to give your money away to a scammer, don't be saddened when you find out how much chinchillas actually cost buying them through legit breeders.

How is this pretty girl still here? She’s just shy of 8 months old, but remember chinchillas live on average of 10-15 years and can live upwards of 25. She’s still just a baby. You don’t have to get a just weaned baby to enjoy these as pets. Don’t let her age deter you - they’re much calmer when they’re not in the toddler stage.

Grooming a Chinchilla for Show

For educational purposes, basics of grooming a chinchilla for show. For those of you that are complaining about holding the chinchilla's tail - please educate yourself. This is the proper way to handle a chinchilla, especially when being groomed for show. You should not handle the fur other than to remove the top layer of dead fur and smooth it out. Over handling can lead to greasy fur and an animal will not do well in show if their fur is greasy. The goal is to get the fur as smooth and stand up as possible. Holding the tail firmly secures the animal without putting any pressure on their ribs and keeping the animal from slipping fur. Shaking the animal out afterwards is a quick, safe way to get the fur to stand back up after you've groomed the fur towards the head. It does not harm the animal in any way, as you can see the front feet are planted on my leg and this just moves the fur around, it's not shaking the animal to harm them. Please realize that those of us that show would never harm our animals and we take pride in what we do. Think outside of the box.. you may not want to do this for your pet, but these aren't necessarily raised to be pets, they're raised for show and we make sure that our practices are humane and approved. Please keep your negative comments off the page, or I will remove them, thank you.
