Here’s a brief clip of Zeus’s first obedience session. Those who have followed us for a long time know that Zeus began as a behavioral modification client to address reactivity and aggression, then later continued mental/physical enrichment sessions. His owner had taken him to another trainer for obedience, and I recently observed that Zeus’s “listening” was more out of fear of punishment via correction utilizing a training collar. He was not showing a desire to perform/true understanding of what was being asked which created a cycle of disobedience - correction - shut down compliance. His owner has agreed to try my style of obedience training so look for future updates on how this handsome boy is progressing. Note that as a balanced trainer I recognize the value of tools and correction in training, but I reserve correction for dangerous behaviors not basic obedience. #obediencetraining #dogobediencetraining #dogobedience #germanshepherd
