Due to severe road conditions resulting from the ongoing ice storm, Spartan Veterinary Clinic will be closed today, Tuesday January 23rd. The safety and well-being of our staff, patients, and their families are our top priority.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding. We will reopen Wednesday January 24th at 9am.

As the holiday season is upon us, the team at Spartan Veterinary Clinic wanted to take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude for your trust and partnership throughout the year. It has been a pleasure caring for your beloved pets, and we are grateful to be a part of their health and happiness.

In the spirit of the holidays and to allow our dedicated staff to spend quality time with their families, we would like to inform you that Spartan Veterinary Clinic will be closed from December 23, 2023, through January 1, 2024. We will be reopening on January 2, 2024 at 9:00am. During this time, our team will be taking a well-deserved break to recharge and spend cherished moments with their loved ones.

Our hearts are in East Lansing today with those effected by the tragedy on campus last night. We mourn those who were lost in this senseless act of violence and hope for recovery to those who were injured. We want to extend our gratitude and appreciation to the first responders and medical teams who acted swiftly and bravely in responding to this terrible event. We stand together as a community during this difficult time.

Last week we had a very special visit at the clinic! Mrs. McBath's third grade class came to learn about what a day in the life of a veterinarian looks like, what it takes to become a veterinarian or veterinary technician, and we even did some Teddy Bear Triage on the student's stuffed animals. Their day finished with a visit from our Client Liaison, Stephanie, and her special dog, Henny.

Dr. Boatman and our entire staff had so much fun with these awesome students. They had so many great questions. The future is bright for veterinary medicine!

Did you know we have two very spoiled clinic kitties living at Spartan?

Meet Sparty & Athena! They are 3 year old littermates. They love to spend their days lounging in various places around the clinic, getting into mischief, and waiting for Dr. Boatman outside of exam rooms. They’re still in training to have full roam of the clinic but one day you’ll probably spot one in a cozy spot by the front desk.

Our last two staff members we'd like to recognize are our two Veterinary Assistants! Stephanie, who also works as our Client Liaison, and La'Toinetta.

Both were new to veterinary medicine when starting at our hospital, but dove into their roles with a passion for animals and learning. They work tirelessly behind the scenes to support our Veterinary Technicians and Dr. Boatman. From helping hold patients for procedures, to making sure they are comfortable when they are here for visits, both Stephanie & La'Toinetta are always putting our client's pets comfort first. We are so grateful for everything they do.

We are closely following the recent cases regarding the virus that has been reported in Michigan and will provide updates as we learn more information.

At this time we recommend any puppies or dogs who have not yet been fully vaccinated for parvovirus avoid contact with other dogs regardless of their vaccination status. If you are unsure of your pet’s vaccination status please call or email [email protected] and we will be happy to go over your record with you.

If your pet is experiencing any symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting, lethargy, or inappetence please schedule an appointment or seek emergency care.

Dear Pet Owners,

In the past week we have seen a large increase in the number of dogs presenting to our clinic with upper respiratory infections after being at dog daycare or boarding facilities. While there has not yet been an official report of an outbreak, there is evidence that an infectious upper respiratory disease is spreading rapidly throughout facilities in our area.

For the safety of your pets, we encourage you to refrain from sending your dog to boarding or daycare facilities for the next 2-4 weeks. Prior to sending your dog, please be sure that their Bordetella and Influenza vaccines are up to date and properly boostered. While the vaccines may not stop your pet from becoming infected, they can reduce the symptoms and protect them from becoming seriously ill.

If your pet is experiencing upper respiratory symptoms such as coughing, sneezing, fever, and nasal discharge please schedule an appointment for an exam. If your pet is experiencing symptoms of respiratory distress please seek emergency treatment as soon as possible.

We are proud to offer a dedicated cat room (we call it the Unicorn Room) for our feline patients. It’s away from our other exam rooms to provide cats with a quiet, comfortable space to explore, play with toys, and enjoy a wide variety of treats and churus.

Earl and all his wrinkles came for a visit yesterday to address allergies with Dr. Boatman. Everyone had fun loving on this sweet boy. 🐶
