Puppies start teething anywhere between 3-4 months old and can last until the age of 6 to 7 months. You’ll notice an increase in biting and nipping as your puppy loses more baby teeth and adult teeth start to grow in. Most pups decrease their mouthing and biting by the time they are 8 to 10 months old, depending on the breed. To ensure this doesn’t turn into a lifelong bad habit, follow these helpful tips to stop puppy biting. Do you have questions about how to care for your pup? Give us a call at (248) 542-7330 and we can provide you with more personalized care. 🐶

If you recently added a female puppy to your family, it's important to understand their heat cycles. Proestrus is the start of the heat period where your dog’s body is preparing to mate and averages about nine days. The estrus phase is the mating phase and usually lasts around 9 days, but can be as short as 3 or as long as 21 days. The diestrus phase occurs directly after the “in heat” stage and lasts for about 2 months. Anestrus is the uterine repair phase, in which no sexual or hormonal behavior is present, and can last for anywhere from 90 to 150 days before the next proestrus stage begins.

We all want our homes to smell nice and clean; however, as pet owners, we have to be extra careful that whatever we are using isn’t harmful to our fur babies. Incense is dangerous to cats as their sense of smell is 14 times stronger than that of humans and the smell can be too intense for them to handle. It also produces smoke, which can be bad for their respiratory system and increase the risk of your cat developing asthma. Opt for cat-friendly methods of keeping your house smelling fresh and clean by dusting frequently, using baking soda to absorb odors, having fragrant plants such as rosemary or sage, or simmering a pot of water with cinnamon sticks, apples, or vanilla. Stay current with your cats' healthcare needs and schedule their appointment by calling (248) 542-7330.

Is my dog overweight? There are a few easy ways to tell if your dog could do with losing a few pounds. If you are able to feel your dog’s backbone and touch their ribs, then they are at a healthy weight. If you cannot feel the ribs without pressing, then there is too much fat there. You should also be able to see a noticeable waist between the back of their rib cage and hips when looking at your pup from above, and there should be a ‘tuck’ in their tummy from the side. If your doggie fails these little tests, then there is a chance that they may be overweight. Don’t fret – we can help get them back on the right track to a healthy weight and long life! Give us a call at (248) 542-7330 to set up a health and diet plan for them today.
