Hi friends! We’ve been giving our exam rooms some refreshments and this includes changing out our pictures. We’ve had some clients express an interest in them, so we decided to do a silent auction to raise money to buy food for our local animal shelter.

Each photo starts at $10.
Please comment your bid in $1 increments in the comment section of the individual photo.
The person with the highest bid for each photo by 5pm on Sunday 2/18 will win.
You must be able to pick up your photo at the clinic and it’s cash only!

Measurements are listed under each photo.

Hoping you all have a great weekend!

Today is National Change a Pets Life ❤
Change a Pet’s Life Day was created primarily to encourage pet adoption all over the world, which is the number one way to change a pet’s life forever.
Here are a few ways we can participate in Changing a Pets Life;

🐾Adopt a pet
Check local shelters or online offers websites that have shelter animals listed as
well as animals currently in foster homes. Did you know that a lot of shelters and
fosters also have other types of animals looking for a home? How about adopting
a reptile, rabbit, guinea pig or even a hedgehog? 🦎🐇
🐾Sponsor a pet
Not the time to bring a new pet home? You can make a difference in their lives
without having to take them home; most shelters or foundations will sponsorship
programs they would be happy to give you information about.
🐾Foster a pet
Just like with people, if you aren't ready to fully commit to adoption, you can
choose to foster a pet. As it prepares these animals to find their forever homes,
fostering is an excellent socialization approach. Additionally, it helps the shelters
have more space and resources to care for other animals.

If none of these options work you can also consider volunteering. Spend some time at the shelter walking dogs and loving on cats as I'm sure they would appreciate it. Take in some treats and pass them around. You can also contact them for a list of shelter needs.

Did you brush your pets teeth today? Dental care is a very important part of our pets wellness care, annual exams and routine dental cleanings can be very beneficial and help avoid future health issues. Home dental care is great and highly encouraged but did you know when we do dental cleanings here in the hospital your pet will recieve a very through ultrasonic cleaning and polishing as well as full mouth dental radiographs which can alert us of problems below the surface. A dental is performed while under anesthesia and all vitals are closely monitored via a monitor and a technician making this a very safe procedure. Before anesthesia bloodwork will be done to be sure your pet is a safe canident for the procedure.
📞Call the office now to schedule a pre-dental exam and ask about our new Happy Healthy Pets wellness plans ❤️ and how they can save money!

Michigan's winter has finally arrived and winter safety for our pets is very important!

❄️Winter wellness: Has your pet had his/her preventive care exam (wellness exam) yet? Cold weather may worsen some medical conditions.
❄️Know the limits: Just like people, pets' cold tolerance can vary from pet to pet based on their coat, body fat stores, activity level, and health. Certain health conditions may also make it hard for your pet to regulate body temperature.
❄️Stay inside. Cats and dogs should be kept inside during cold weather. It's a common belief that dogs and cats are more resistant than people to cold weather because of their fur, but it's untrue; no pet should be left outside for long periods in below-freezing weather.
❄️Check the paws: Check your dog's paws frequently for signs of cold-weather injury or damage, such as cracked or bleeding paw pads. During a walk, a sudden lameness may be due to an injury or may be due to ice/snow accumulation between his/her toes. Help avoid this by clipping long paw fur or some fashionable booties. A warm sweater or coat is also a great idea!
❄️Prevent poisoning: Clean up any antifreeze spills quickly, and keep the containers away from pets, as even small amounts of antifreeze can be deadly. Also keep your pet away from de-icers or areas where de-icers have been used, as these can make your pet sick if swallowed.

Happy Thanksgiving from your friends at North Main Animal Hospital.
Feel free to post below what you and your pets are thankful and grateful this year.
The North Main family is very thankful and grateful for all of you 🥰💞

11/22/2023

The Holiday Season is here! Our office will be closed tomorrow for Thanksgiving and will resume normal hours on Friday. If your pet is in need of any medications before then, please contact the office asap.
Also please remember to keep your pets safe this Thanksgiving with some of the tips below. Hope everyone has a great day!

🍗Turkey. Avoid giving your pet turkey meat, especially fatty dark meat and skin (a small amount of unseasoned white meat is okay), and never give them any leftover bones. Not only are bones a choking hazard, but they can splinter inside your pet’s digestive tract and cause a trip to the emergency vet.
🍖Garlic, onion, leeks, and chives. These seasonings are common in many Thanksgiving dishes and are toxic to dogs and cats – they can cause destruction of their red blood cells. Avoid giving your pet a bite of anything cooked with these ingredients, like green beans, potatoes, stuffing, or gravy.
🥖Unbaked dough containing yeast. Unbaked yeast dough can cause a stomach blockage if eaten because the yeast in the dough makes it rise and expand. Plus, the natural fermentation of the yeast in your cat or dog’s stomach can cause alcohol poisoning. If you plan on baking some delicious dinner rolls for Thanksgiving, make sure to proof your dough somewhere that your pet can’t get to it, such as in a turned-off oven or microwave, not right on the counter where it’s often in your pet’s easy reach.
🍪Desserts. Desserts like pies, fruitcakes, or cookies should be kept out of your pet’s reach as well. Many people know that chocolate is toxic for dogs and cats, but so are raisins, currants, and the popular sugar-substitute xylitol. Xylitol, even in small amounts, is toxic to dogs, so keep that slice of keto-friendly/diabetic-friendly/sugar-free pie to yourself.
🗑Not only do you not want to give your pets any toxic foods, but you want to make sure they don’t decide to dive into the trash in search of yummy scraps. Ask family and guests to not feed the dog and make sure your trash can is secure.
