Starry Hollow Ranch

Starry Hollow Ranch This was a labor of love from 2017-2024. The beautiful space we created is now in the hands of a new family to create their own magical memories.

One month ago I drove away from everything we had created and this was the image that my good friend Heather sent just after I left. I am still very much in pain over the many losses I’ve endured during this time and it remains hard for me to express. I greatly enjoyed sharing this part of my life with you- I think it was pretty magical and transformative. She is now in the hands of a new family- to create their own story of wonder. I don’t have the heart to delete this account because I feel like that’s deleting an important part of my life. I decided to change the name for now and leave it as a fond memory. If you want to keep in touch you can find me on my personal account and I hope to one day in the future find joy and magic in a new place. And when that happens I hope you will join me there. Thank you all for the love and support over the years and especially during this extremely difficult time in my life. I appreciate the continued love and support as this loss is deeply scaring.
Please follow my wonderful friends for updates on the alpacas and Albert and for updates on our horse Jasper. The chickens, goats and Pyrenees stayed with the new owners and if they decide to share on social media I will come back to this page to update their information.

Update!! The new owners are going to keep my babies!! 💓

: I have found homes for all of our farm animals and I’m super thankful that several of them are staying at the ranch with the new owners (if all goes well with the purchase).

I will be staying in Salt Lake City for the time being and getting an apartment so I will not be able to take the Pyrenees 😩. Shayne is taking Sammy and therefore cannot take the Pyrenees because they are not safe together.

Man I hate doing this and it absolutely is breaking my heart but I need to find a home for Lily and Winston before the house closes escrow. I am so hopeful that one of my friends or family can take them or knows someone who can- so I know they are loved and well cared for.

Winston is 8 years old and fixed. He likes to roam around at night and sleep inside during the day. Lily is 6, not fixed, and prefers to be inside most of the time. They are both very sweet with humans and cats, very loyal and calm but they should not be around other dogs without supervision.

If you have any questions please message me. Also this is very hard- I know it’s not ideal- I never could have foreseen current life circumstances 🙁

Shayne and I have spent 7 years turning Starry Hollow Ranch into something that existed in our dreams. It is so bitter sweet to say… we are in contract to sell the house. If all goes as planned it should close around mid August. I am hopeful that the new owners love and cherish it as much as we have.

I am not sure where my path will take me next. It’s so foreign for me to say that I know WHAT I’d like more than I know WHERE that is or how to make it happen.

I’ve learned so much living here on the ranch. And there are parts of it that I want to take with me and recreate in a new and different way. I’d like to start sharing (with my friends and family) some of my dreams because I would greatly appreciate your thoughts, prayers and guidance on how to make my dreams a reality once again.

I don’t know how to unpack my thoughts in writing- as this conversation when held in person lately has spanned hours. I don’t know where to start.

Let’s start with a the first major contemplation :

I don’t know WHERE I want to live:

Which state? Should I consider other countries? This is a loaded question because there’s a lot I’m looking for : a climate that facilitates my new found love of gardening and growing my own food. 4 seasons but winter cannot be as long/hard as it has been in Utah. I do not like hot, humid, buggy conditions. I want to spend lots of time outdoors- having coffee in the morning eating, gardening, having a walk, watching the sunset. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that I am looking for my “hallmark town” (picture Gilmore girls or the Good Witch). I want it to be small, but not too far away from large. Friendly. A place that people want visit. Can’t be too expensive or I won’t be able to make it happen - can’t do the likes of Park City, Vail, or Jackson Hole. I’m hoping to have at least 1 acre. I want to continue hosting campers or do airbnb guests. I most likely will still have a few animals - definitely chickens. I’m picturing being in a small cottage.

Here’s a short list of a few areas I have considered based on recommendations but I’ll need to do more research and visit:

Boise, Idaho
Nashville or Knoxville, Tennessee
Asheville, North Carolina

Including some of inspo photos- best way for me to visually share what’s happening in my brain

My favorite guy- Albert. He is so happy to be out roaming and although they aren’t in the photo he loves hanging with his goat friends. I just love this guy!

I’ve been hesitant to share this here so please be gentle with me. A lot of people have been reaching out and asking me how things are going and I’ve shared with some of you one on one. Maybe you have noticed me trying to sell things on marketplace ? I would like to say it’s just because I have too much stuff- which is true, but the main reason is we are getting ready to put Starry Hollow Ranch up for sale this spring.

After much deliberation- Shayne and I have decided to amicably go our separate ways. I am not sure what that path looks like for me. I would love to be near friends and family back in San Diego but finding a good job and affordable housing is a big challenge.

Please just send some positive vibes up 🙏🏻 that I find a rewarding job and a place to lay my head that feels safe, peaceful and healing because this all so very heartbreaking. And that all my animals that have been my babies and such a source of joy for me over the years also find good homes because that is weighing so heavy on my heart.

Do you have someone that makes food for you?

If you do- this is your reminder to show them your appreciation for feeding you. Making sure your fridge and pantry are full (whether from growing your own or purchasing it), putting together meals that are nutritious and delicious is not easy and is a skill that HAS to be learned because we are not born with it. I truly believe that anyone who does this for another human is OUT OF LOVE and should be recognized and appreciated.

The month of love is almost here - what is something YOU can do to show the person who feeds you your appreciation? (Can someone please mention this idea to my Mr since he’s not on social media)?

Also - side note- learning how to make my own bread was one of my goals for 2024. So far so good- I’ve made a few loafs of sourdough already and plan to make many different kinds now that I realize it’s not so scary and daunting.

Yesterday I shared how Shayne and I set some intentions for the new year, and I shared the one that we each ended up with, but I think it’s really important to share all of them. I feel like if you have goals, intentions, habits you want to change things you want to accomplish the more you share that with people in your life the more support and encouragement you receive, the more accountability you have, the more connections you make. So I’d like to express some of my intentions.

When I woke up this morning, I decided to write them in a journal dedicating each one to its own set of pages so that I could write a description of what that intention meant and how I might like to see it fulfilled and that’s when I realized there’s a bit of a theme…..

Here’s my first 6 and as you can see they are all related :
1. Learning how to make sourdough bread
2. How to properly can my own food
3. Growing and preserving herbs, which I’m already doing I just want to do more
4. Planning out my garden for the year and having it started and planted at the correct time
5. Starting my own apothecary
6. Focus on health and wellness (all of the above things do that)

I think these are all very achievable and based on what I’ve been learning and doing over the last 6 years at Starry Hollow Ranch I think this year I will really start to see progress! I know that I’ll never be at the end of trial and error because life always has a lesson for us to learn.

I have a few helpers that are going to lend a hand in helping me learn/get started on some of these and I’m very thankful for that. Do you have any intentions/goals that you would like to share with the universe?

Shayne and I did something fun this year. For the winter solstice we wrote down 13 things we would like to learn, accomplish, do in 2024. We folded each one up and put them in a jar and every morning we took out one, did not read it, and burned it. On the last day the one you are left with is what you will put your main focus into and the other the universe with help you out with.

Today was our last paper and my final one is to learn how to make sour dough bread. I have made bread with my bread maker but sourdough is my favorite. I am so thankful to have a friend that is going to teach me. One of my other things I want to do is read more. I’ve been finding tons of great books at the thrift store and I just need to sit my butt down and READ! I’m starting with these two books- one is all about bread making and the other is a fictional story about a baker.

Shaynes was to get better playing his guitar. I think that he already is great- he can teach himself a new song in just a few hours. It’s always nice to listen to him teaching himself a new tune or coming up with his own songs.

Happy Winter Solstice! I’m really excited to acknowledge and celebrate this changing of the seasons and to express how grateful I am that we have had the longest fall (in terms of actual fall weather) I have ever seen in Utah.

Winter Solstice is the shortest day of the year, and it marks the point when the Earth’s axial tilt is farthest away from the Sun, resulting in the least amount of daylight and the longest night of the year.

Thankfully, after we reach the winter solstice, the days begin to grow longer and longer once again until we reach the summer solstice—the first day of summer and the longest day of the year.

Although the winter solstice means the start of winter, it also means the return of more sunlight. It only gets brighter from here! It’s a time of rebirth, renewal, and new beginnings.

This astronomical event has been celebrated by cultures around the world for thousands of years, as a time to honor the cycles of nature, reflect on the past year, and set intentions for the coming year.

This time reminds us of the power of the natural world and our connection to the universe as a whole.

Some ways you can celebrate winter solstice:

1. Light candles or have a bonfire to bring light into the darkness

2. Reflect on the year that is ending and have a ritual to release what no longer serves you. Perhaps write it down and release it into the fire.

3. Honor all that you are, all that you’ve become this year, and all that you have in this precious life and share that verbally with your friends/family. Or write it down and put that note in your stocking or on your mantle.

3. Embrace the new beginning and set intentions for the coming year.

4. Go into nature and collect items to make a wreath. Wreaths symbolize the cycle of the seasons.

Do you have any special plans for the solstice?

Mr Lucifer checking out my thrift store finds... or just looking out the front door wishing I would let him out.

I found this brass lamp for $3 and the painting for $6 . Shayne said I need to go to rehab for my thrift store addiction 😬 can you relate?

Piece of Paradise

Starry Hollow Ranch started as a personal venture to get away from city life and reconnect with nature and self sustainable living. Our farmie family currently includes chickens, goats, alpacas, horses, cats, and dogs and aspirations of agricultural growth. We feel that we have stumbled upon a precious location, plentiful in its beauty and solitude. As we learn more about farming, we want to share with you our adventures, if for no other reason than comical relief and to bring a smile to your face with our furry farmies.

In addition, we would like to share in YOUR awesome life by opening up our farm for private weddings and family photo sessions.

Life is fuller when we can share in the joy and beauty together.
