This weeks shelter spotlight is Bjorn!

Bjorn is Mastiff-Shepard mix. He is an unaltered 4 year old male. He is good with cats, dogs and children, making an extremely friendly and flexible family pet! He is super friendly and just wants to give everyone lots of love.

Bjorn LOVES to play, especially with tennis balls. He needs a home with a securely fenced in yard and extra supervision, otherwise he will play a Houdini act and be on the run. He is crate trained and potty trained.

Bjorn is up to date on all of his vaccinations and heartworm free. He is always looking around for a bone to chew on and fun to have. Bjorn is always ready for a car trip. He will even jump in cars without any persuasion! Help us find the family Bjorn deserves, and let him live the rest of his days happily chasing tennis balls.

UPDATE: ADOPTED!

Chili is a 6 month old 17 pound female Dachshund Heeler mix. She is not spayed yet. She was surrendered due to her owner not having the time. Her owner stated she was playful with cats. She is fine with dogs, but loud or aggressive dogs scare her. She is friendly with kids. She LOVES to zoomie. She is not potty, crate, or leash trained. She can be high energy, but is very timid of new things and environments. She will need a family who is willing to give her the time she needs to train and learn about her world.

The adoption fee of $100 is a refundable deposit. The adopter will be responsible to have the animal spayed or neutered within 90 days at the clinic of their choosing. If this is completed within the required 90 days the adopter is to submit required documentation that includes a spay/neuter certificate, a receipt for the spay/neuter, and a rabies certificate to get their refund of up to the deposited amount. Spay and Neuter is required for adoption per our adoption contract and by Indiana State Law. We accept cash, card (with a 3% charge), and check.

All dogs receive at least 1 distemper/parvo and Bordetella vaccine. If possible a heartworm test will be done and if negative the dog will be started on heartworm prevention. All animals receive a flea and parasite prevention/treatment and will be microchipped.

All animals can go home the same day as adoption. We will need your photo ID and you will sign some documents. Adopters will also receive a copy of the animal's medical history to date. We do not do an application process. All adoptions are first come, first serve. We do not offer holds.

UPDATE: ADOPTED

We do not require in most cases that adopters bring all their families members and dogs for a meet and greet. But we do highly encourage it. We are happy to introduce the new dog to your dog(s) at the shelter. No appointment necessary.

We do offer home trials of dogs over 6 months of age for about a week. You will not need to pay the adoption fee (spay neuter deposit) ahead of time, but if you decide to adopt you will need to return to the shelter to complete the paperwork and pay the adoption deposit. If you do not wish to complete the adoption, you can bring the dog back at any time during normal business hours during your home trial period. We do not allow after hours drop off.

UPDATE: We are no closer to catching this dog. Yes we are aware that it may be injured. But the dog is still terrified and in flight mode. On Monday 3/10 we did receive a call that the dog was inside the fence at Trane. We had staff go over and try to corner and contain he dog, but had no luck. We then set a humane live trap with all kinds of food options. We checked on Monday afternoon and the dog was not trapped, but still in the fenced in area. We checked again Tuesday morning, not trapped and not in the fenced in area anymore. We heard of no sighting on Tuesday or Wednesday. Did receive a sighting over in the amphetheater park, dog still was running scared. This morning it was then sighted on Cherry street. In order for a trap to work we need the dog to settle into 1 place and so far it is still running all over town a week later. AGAIN IF YOU ARE THE OWNER OR KNOW THE OWNER, PLEASE HELP US OUT! This very likely is not going to end well for the dog!

We are aware of a Pomeranian running. It is terrified and will not approach anyone. We need the owner to catch it. Otherwise we will need to implement a dog trap procedure that can take several days to weeks to work. We already have a volunteer starting the process. Our community only needs to help with sightings or getting in touch with the owner. Please report your sightings in the comment section or message us if you are the owner or know the owner so we can hopefully have this addressed as quickly as possible. CHASING IT WILL NOT HELP! Thank you for understanding!

Davie was adopted yesterday and returned today. Adopter reported Davie was wonderful, but they needed to return due to their current dog not happy about sharing it's home with Davie. Davie had no behavior concerns, was very cuddly, and is potty trained. Davie will also come with a leash, collar, bed, bowls, treats, and a toy!

Davie is a 2 year old 43 pound male Aussie Doodle. He is not neutered yet. He was surrendered due to not enough time. Per his previous owner he is reported to be snuggly, good with kids and dogs, and an overall sweet dog. He is reported to be potty and crate trained as well. His energy level is reported to be medium and he is known to chew stuff up. He will need a groomer's expertise as soon as possible, he appears to have had a home hair cut.

Nana is a 7 year old spayed and front and back declawed female. She came in as a stray. We do not know her story. She seems to not mind sharing a room with other cats. She is very sweet and friendly. She is skinny, has a thin coat, and a wound of some kind on her belly. We highly recommend that an adopter have a veterinarian examine her to be sure she has no health concerns.

This pet is already spayed or neutered, so their adoption fee is free.

All adopters must bring a cat carrier, otherwise they will need to purchase one from us for $20. All adoptions are first come, first serve.

All cats receive at least 1 feline vaccine. All animals receive a flea and parasite prevention/treatment and will be microchipped.

UPDATE: ZARA HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!!

Today’s doggie spotlight is Zara! 🐕

Zara is 7 months old Short coated German Shepard mix. She is an unaltered female. Zara is a very friendly girl. She knows all of her basic commands and more! For example, she knows to walk away from an object when you stand in front of or on top of it.

Zara has a good recall and responds always unless she’s too excited. She still has that playful puppy energy, always wanting to run and explore everything She is very smart, being able to pick up a small cues and understand commands thoroughly. We are unsure if she likes cats but she seems to be fond of other dogs.

Our favorite part about Zara is how often she loves to give hugs! She will stand on her hind legs and put her paws around your waist to give you a big hug complete with wet kisses. Spending puppyhood in a shelter is not easy, so give Zara the chance to grow up in her forever home with a loving family.

Meet Bindi! This sweet girl is a little over 70 lbs and believed to be spayed! She is estimated to be 4-years-old, but she can still kick it like a puppy! Bindi is believed to be a Red Heeler and Catahoula mix. To the shelter staff, she looks like the friendliest coyote you’ll ever meet! She loves to run and play; although, she never gets too hyper or rough. Bindi would do great with kids and elderly! She loves to talk to you and will demand treats on occasion. She can actually catch treats in her mouth! This sweet girl is up to date on all of her vaccinations except for rabies. Her adoption fee is free to a good home. Adopt Bindi and give her the companionship she is craving! She would be your bff until the end!
