What type of joint diseases would benefit from Spryng? Any joint which is accessible with a needle and has arthritis can likely benefit from Spryng. Dogs with hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, cranial cruciate ligament damage (fixed surgically or managed medically) are prime examples of dog’s who can benefit from therapeutic joint injections.

How long does Spryng work for? After injection, Spryng starts working immediately although maximum effect starts approximately 2-3 weeks after injection. In most dogs, effects from Spryng last approximately one year. Injections can be given annually and as they are directly into the joint, they are safe to give while animals are on systemic medications.

Meet Hank!!! A 7 year old lab who has had hip dysplasia since he was a young dog. As he has gotten older, he developed more arthritis in his hips. He loves to run and fetch, but he started having a hard time with stairs and was sore by the end of the day. He was significantly more comfortable on NSAID therapy, adequan, acupuncture and prescription joint food. However, he still limped occasionally and couldn’t fully enjoy his favorite activities. In July, Hank received a Spryng injection into both hips. Since then he has run freely, no longer has trouble with the stairs, can fetch with no lameness and is overall a much happier boy.

Introducing Spryng!!! Spryng is a new medication our office will be carrying to aid in the reduction of lameness and pain in pets with joint disease. Animals suffering from osteoarthritis or degenerative joint disease have a break down in cartilage which allows bones to rub uncomfortably.

Spryng is an intra-articular (into the joint) injection that creates a shock-absorbing matrix when it interacts with joint fluid to mimic the natural, healthy joint cartilage. Spryng is composed of naturally- derived proteins collagen and elastin and generates a sponge like material that releases joint fluid in response to joint impact. This improves patient comfort and improves overall joint health.

Who can receive a Spryng injection? Any animal that can safely be put under general anesthesia and has specific joint disease can benefit from Spryng. Animals are placed under general anesthesia to allow for proper placement of the sterile injection and to aid in overall animal comfort. Patients who are already planned to have anesthesia for a different reason (mass removal, dentals, neutering), are typically great candidates to add this pain relieving procedure. Alternatively, this can be a stand alone procedure.
