Grizzly is a friendly and gentle soul waiting to capture your heart! This charming guy patiently waits in his kennel for his next adventure, and he's always ready to go for a walk. Grizzly gets along great with other dogs and has all his basics covered: neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, and microchipped.

While he can get a bit excited on a leash, Grizzly is a quick learner and will soon be walking politely by your side. He's already stolen the hearts of our volunteers, and now it's your turn! As a bonus, Grizzly's adoption fee is sponsored, so you can bring him home without any additional cost.

Little handful DOTTIE is about 10 weeks old and came to us at the end of the day today. Dottie is rumored to be an Australian cattle dog/Bloodhound mix. she’s an active happy girl, going through her typical puppy phase of biting, jumping, scratching and trying out everything new. We can’t describe her personality yet because we are just now getting to know. Isn’t she cute?

Lola was signed over to the Shelter today. she seems to be a sweet dog, and we look forward to getting to know her. We are told she was not good with cats or other small animals, but she seems to be pretty laid-back when it comes to new people stopping by to talk to her. volunteers recall, seeing her sitting out in her yard at her home, just being very chill. She may have been an outdoor dog originally, but we want her to be an indoor dog at her new home. If you’re looking for an easy-going companion, consider this beauty!

What a day yesterday! There were lots of ups and downs, and we want to focus on the positives! At 1 o’clock, I need arrived with a leash and pretty new collar in hand so she could adopt Alia. Alia lhas been waiting since November to find a new home, and was really looking forward to getting out of the shelter. Her new mom is determined that this will work! Alia’s fan club was on hand to send her off, and helped load her up in the car.
We understand Alia was not a fan of the 28 mile trip home, and is really enjoying being free in the house and exploring with her
mom! We are praying for success in the next couple weeks as the transition is made from shelter dog to beloved family pet. Thank you for sponsoring this beautiful girl, MaryBeth!

If you’re feeling emotional today for any reason, you may not want to read this story. I want to share it because in all my years of Rescue, I have never felt such an affirmation for a decision that I made as I felt yesterday. My background, for those who don’t know: I started volunteering at the Campbell County Shelter and helping shelter pets in the year 2000, and it has been quite a journey. There have been many times when I have had to help make decisions about ending the lives of cats and dogs with humane euthanasia, and many times I have wondered if we made the right decision. I have helped many pets over the rainbow bridge because of declining health, old age, critical injuries, or behavioral problems. Without fail, I shed tears for the loss of life even though the animals accept it without fear, and seem to understand that we do this so they can move on. Regardless of the reasons, animals truly are less upset than the humans during the process.

When Tech, a shelter cat who had been visiting at the adoption center, became lethargic earlier this week, I opted to be his hostess for a few days to observe, and to see if he would benefit from time away from the other cats. I have a good set up at my house to isolate, and have learned how to administer sub-q fluids, as well as meds. I also have lots of good contacts with veterinarians so could get him seen if needed. After a virtual consultation with one veterinarian, I administered fluids, and continued observation. When I noted after 24 hours that he was not improving, we headed into the veterinarian’s office. It was discovered his fever was raging, and he had no appetite. A second visit at the Emergency Clinic that night yielded the dreaded diagnosis of FIP. While it sounds complicated to explain, those of us in cat care and rescue cringe when we hear this because although it can be treated, the treatment is extremely painful. It consists of daily injections of a drug into the cat’s back for up to three months or longer if needed. It is controversial because of the pain. Those cat owners who opt for this treatment are truly the brave ones, and for successful treatments, the cats generally live a healthy, happy life afterwards. My heart told me this was not going to be an option for Tech. Tech was too withdrawn to handle this. And he had started vomiting, and was refusing food and water. We never want animals suffering, and when they are put here for us to take care of, it is up to us to make decisions. I set an appointment for euthanasia for Thursday morning.

As we were preparing to leave for the office, I told Tech that I was going to help him cross the rainbow bridge, that the vet was going to take away his pain, and he could feel good once more outside his body. And he began talking to me. He talked and purred the entire drive to the vet office. When we arrived and got settled in the room waiting, he purred. He didn’t stop purring. He wasn’t shaking in fear, but he was letting me know, “Yes; thank you for making this decision. Yes thank you for letting me go. Thank you for being responsible.” I have never had a cat or dog tell me with such strong body language or behavior that this was what they needed. I was so grateful for the opportunity to be the one to be there with Tech. He gave me more than I could ever give him. He gave me affirmation that what I have done for so many years is not unappreciated.

Now I’m asking you: don’t be afraid to make decisions. Don’t be afraid to be there for your pets. Be the one to help them cross the bridge when they need it. Be responsible. Be strong. They deserve it.
