Last Thursday, the 23rd, was the 1st morning that the temperature was above 70 degrees... this wakes up the hatch-out of horseflies. This morning at the crack of dawn a couple of short yearlings and short two-year-olds show the result of the flies.... and it will get worse geometrically. When I got to the mare pasture at sunrise, the grouping of the mares evidenced the harassment that is coming.... and the firetail gnats would burn your eyes out. Have a good evening.... I will.
Maiden mare Sunday Veil's world changed today... just before daylight she gave birth to a nice sorrel colt with a blaze and 4-white socks. She likes him a lot. Incidentally, I do too. Sunday Veil is out of Spanish Veil by Shooters Dude. The colt is by Skips Totem. Mr. Cyber Space would not let me upload multiple pictures... so.... see more pictures in the comments.
Enjoy.
I have debated myself now for 6 days whether to post this video. Finally I have concluded to do so. The reasoning being that every horse breeder, whether a hobbyist with only one mare, or a pro-breeder with many mares, and everyone in-between, might profit from this graphic imagery video. If the symptoms depicted here should be exhibited by a foal of yours, God forbid, you will be forewarned of the grave consequences. Pat
New filly born last night... by Shooters Dude and Dam out of a Scotch N Lark daughter. Super neck, good horseshoe hip and wide through the stifle. Good way to start a day.
Back in '15 I thought I had a chance at a fortune... but it has evaded me so far... but I'm still looking. Hint, turn up your audio to get full effect. Pat.
2017 Colorado Trail (Cold)
I don't remember moving recently.... but I must have... it was 75 degrees yesterday.... high was 34 degrees today... and it is now 31 degrees and falling. Kinda reminds me of my Colorado Trail ride back in 2017 where me and sidekick Steve Board (who passed away from Covid in January of 2021) hit the trail above Creed, CO and rode to Molas Pass between Durango and Silverton, an 8 day trip... with the Devil's weather hounding us all the way. Here is a video clip of the trip.... enjoy, cause I sure did.
I have been lucky enough to have bred and owned100's of horses over the years... always trying to produce exactly the horse I visioned. Some of the good stallons that comes to mind were King Dallas, Showfly, Sunfly, Skips Heritage, Kinda Upset, Gotta Be Silent, Silvertone Magic, Napoleon, etc. But the stand-out of them all is Shooters Dude... he is a mature stallion now, age 11, and in the prime of his life... I like his mind, his structure and the things he can do under saddle. Here is a couple of current snapshots of him, and a video clip of him at 4 years of age the first time I asked him to pull on a rope. Enjoy. Constructive comments are always welcome.
Snorkling from the horsefly horde, 2018
Testing, testing... at 75 which way is up?
A little foggy this morning in the foaling pasture. Another new baby, number 5, made his debut about dawn. Really nice sorrel with a good neck, long hip, full blaze, three stockings and a sock. Out of Sexy Broker by Shooters Dude. Enjoy. Pat.
Another McCullough Horses addition.
Silvery Cowgirl, recovery status, 01-12-18
Here is a flashback for you polebenders. This is a grandson of Double Bid and the only horse I ever trained that could break the magic 19 second barrier on the poles. This was filmed about 30-40 days into training in 1970. He consistantly was scratching on the end pole of the first-thru (right turn). I determined he was a counter... cured his problem by adding poles to the line during training so his count was extended Conclusion: He could count, but not substract. Thanks to Shelly Searcy for resurecting this film. Pat McCullough, horse breeder since 1957
A much, much younger Pat McCullough executing 360's over the hock at a canter on 3-year old Showfly. This was his 1st ride in a bit.... and you could tell he sure didn't like it. By the time this pony was a 6-year old, he could really do things under a saddle. Enjoy. (Many thanks to my cousin-in-law Shelly Searcy for resurrecting this film clip.)
