It was a chilly but beautiful day yesterday and perfect weather for working with Mustangs. Vickie Guest has been spending a lot of time with Rein’s infinite Hope, a.k.a. Finn. Today it paid off big time. Then obviously had been used to someone feeding him and being touched on the nose, but that was it. He’s very curious and wants to be with us. Doesn’t quite know how to do it. He slowly learning, trusting and building his mental tools. Today it all came together as he had a halter taken on and off quite a few times by Vicki he seem quite proud of himself. He also decided that humans were good for scratching on itchy spots. Way to go Vickie and Finn. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Merry Christmas to everyone from REIN Rescue

Bruce Andersons, my friend and mentor, with his Nature's View, Inc., has always taught not to help, but instead help the horses to help themselves by building their mental tools. REIN Rescue has been involved in the relief efforts in Western North Carolina for the last three months. For the last two weeks, I have wrapped more presents for adopted families than I probably ever wrapped in my entire life. So I decided I was tired and it was time to let the Mustangs figure out their own puzzles, especially since I had wrapped a lot of presents involving children, figuring out in solving problems. REIN’s Icon and REIN’s Infinite Hope (Finn) we’re introduced to a tarp yesterday by me, walking around, acting like an idiot in the wind. Needless to say, they thought that was crazy and dangerous but after a while, they figured I was the one who was crazy and it was not such a bad deal. This morning, I decided that they were the children and I had wrapped their present which was their hay, but they had to eat it off a plate made of a tarp. To add a slight degree of difficulty, the tarp was situated at the entrance to 4 foot gate of which Icon is afraid of narrow spaces. We discussed it, and I told him that this was their opportunity to build their mental tools by figuring out how to eat their hay in order to do that they’re gonna have to step on a tarp. I thoroughly enjoyed myself sitting and watching the progress. I thought you might enjoy seeing what we do out here.
To have a little more fun, I decided that we needed contest boys versus girls. The three Mustang yearling girls got a blue tarp with Hay in the center. As we all know, girls are smarter than boys and they proved it within a minute or two all three were on the tarp. Lol.

I apologize for confusion on Megan Malan’s obstacle building and working equitation clinic. We’ve had a number of conflicts and I screwed up and got the date wrong so I apologize again. Megan will be at REIN Rescue January 23 at 1 PM. Attendance is limited so if you’re interested, please get in touch as soon as possible. Thank you so much.

Animal Communicator Lauren Wingate stopped by last Saturday to see the horses and talk to them. REIN Rescue has been fortunate to have Lauren helping out over the past year with all the feral horses and now the mustangs. Fiona, who’s sponsored by Pagan Lee Gilman and her mom, Betty Strickland, was one of the wildest we’ve had. She’s now a total love bug. To see her last Saturday with Lauren is what we’re all about.

Fiona LOVES people and Animal Communicator Lauren Wingate is one of her favorites! She’s come a long way from the feral yearling who arrived ar REIN Rescue last February

What a great day w had at REIN Rescue. Vickie Guest worked with REIN’s Infinite Hope (Finn) and Joy Baker worked with REIN’s Icon. Both horses were super and Icon even got his first hair detangler and the fairy knots out of his mane! Kathleen Watkins came out and worked with Finn learning the Two-Step Technique from Julia Carpenter and Amelia Nowicki also was introduced to the Two-Step Technique with Freddie. Julia then spent some time with Icon and Honey. Honey isn’t fond of her blanket so the slow work really built her trust and confidence. Thank you Julia for all your help.

Last weekend Lauren Wingate made a surprise visit to go over a couple of upcoming communication workshops she plans to do for REIN Rescue in the coming months and to see all the horses. Let’s just say she tried to see all the horses, but Miss Fiona wanted Lauren all to herself and who could resist Fiona?

We were so excited about our obstacle day with Faith Jorgenson a few weeks ago. So much so, we started put out a few things to work around. I was tucking everyone in last night and saw this and it made me think someone is saying we are on the right path.

The mustang, Rein’s Icon, took his first long walk today. We started in the paddock and then ventured out to explore the pasture and run in shed. Then, to top it off he and the mustang, Rein’s Infinite Hope (Finn) went into separate stalls to eat and were ok with me shutting the door. Quite an accomplishment!

REIN Rescue is so pleased to report, REIN’s Invincible aka Tippy, a 3 yr old Mustang who arrived October 7, has been adopted by Charles Hairfield and Seabrook Island Equestrian. Seabrook got their first Mustang, Sapphire, a yearling from the Aiken Mustang Summit last September. Sapphire has shown so many people what a Mustang can do to help you listen to your horse as well as to people. She has been a phenomenal ambassador for mustangs. Charles has wanted an older Mustang to add to his beach rides at Seabrook Island as well as adding educational opportunities. We at REIN rescue are overjoyed Tippy can be a spokes-horse for mustangs and touch the lives of all who meet this special animal. Tippy will start his journey with Bruce Anderson Nature's View, Inc. in Camden, SC. He will then continue on to Seabrook Island Equestrian.
