Winter turns into spring where things start to bloom, blossom, and grow. What a perfect time to add to your family. We have fourteen puppies available for adoption. They will be at our facility from 12-3 on Saturday February 1st. If you are interested in adding to your family and adopting one of these adorable puppies, you can fill out an application through our website at heartofthefoothills.org/adopt. For more information you can email us at [email protected]. Either way, we hope that you will find the time on Saturday to meet them. We hope to see you there!

We didn't have as many intakes as we did the week before, but never the less, we were still working hard to save the ones we could. These babies will feel safe, loved, and secure as we try to ease their anxieties, mend broken hearts, and give the medical care they need and deserve. One cat came in covered in ringworm and sores all over her defeated body, two kittens were set out in a carrier at a church malnourished and puny, five more were brought to our rescue after their mom had to find a place for them to go or be evicted. We were brought a mom and babies that were born in a parking lot, and a kitten that was found in someone's engine. Welcome to HFAR!

It’s Sunday morning, and you know what that means - adoptions!! Last week, we had four adoptions, and one sweet pup who was returned to her owners. We are thrilled for Fluffy, Tiger, & Scout (who were all adopted together), and adorable Sweet Pea. Missy also was back in the loving arms of her owners.

We are so grateful for everyone who gives all these babies a chance for a loving home. We know a mere “thank you” doesn’t really express the depth of our gratitude to our staff, volunteers, foster parents, supporters, and adopters who keep our organization going. But it’s all we’ve got, so we’ll keep saying it - and meaning so much more. Have a wonderful week! ❤️

Hi folks! We're going to start a new regular posting called "Foster Fridays." Every Friday, we will feature one of our adoptable cats or dogs that is currently living in one of our foster homes. We have quite a few animals in foster homes, some because they are too young or maybe need time to decompress. But, there are some who are in foster homes simply because there is not enough room at the shelter to house them. Consequently, they often don't get the exposure that the animals at the shelter do because people are not able to see them when they come to look at animals.

So, our first featured Foster Friday animal is beautiful Kalahari (Kala for short). Kalahari is about seven months old and came to us back in August as a stray, along with her brother Gobi and sister Sahara, both of whom have been adopted. While we don't know for sure what her breed is, we believe that she may have quite a bit of Catahoula in her.

Her foster mom has brought her to numerous adoption events, as well as participating with her in both the Forest City and Rutherfordton holiday parades. We can't understand why she hasn't had any interest yet! She's got s***k and sass and will gladly tell you exactly what she thinks. Her foster mom says she's sugar and spice all mixed up in one, and has a gorgeous sable coat to boot! She so deserves a home of her own, just ike her brother and sister.

If you are interested in adopting Kalahari, please submit an application at heartofthefoothills.org/adopt

We are looking to hire a kennel staff attendant. Must be at least 18 years old, a dedicated animal lover who’s dependable and hard working.

You can’t make a living wage doing this job but if you love animals and are looking for part-time work to make a little extra spending money, perhaps this is the job for you.

We are a small non-profit so the pay is only $9.50 an hour. However, the rewards that come along with helping the homeless pets in our community, by far outweighs any amount of money.

If you are interested in joining Team Heart, email our director Karen Parker at [email protected]

We are closed to the public on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays but that doesn’t mean we are not working. Rescue is not a job where you punch a clock and you’re off work. For those of us in the trenches, it’s never ending because there are always animals in need. It’s a way of life and I’m not sure some of us would know how to live any other way.

With that being said, late yesterday evening our Assistant DirectorStephanie Spence Henderson was able to get a stray cat to safety and give her the medical care she needs.

This evening, we were tagged in a post about kittens in a plastic pet carrier left near Sandy Springs church. The Finder could not keep the kittens so Executive DirectorKaren Parkerr & volunteer/foster momMadalie Short stepped forward to make sure they are safe and warm.

With the cold temperatures we are facing over the next few days, it’s very unlikely these cats would have survived.

Help us stay prepared for the unexpected. Please consider making a small donation towards their medical care. Every life we save would not be possible without you.

Meet Sweet Pea. She is an older girl that needs a forever home to spend the rest of her days. Sweet Pea showed up as a stray and went straight into a foster home. Her current foster mom will be leaving next week and unfortunately this girl needs to switch homes. She is a yorkie, estimated to be almost twelve years old, and 11 pounds. If you are interested in giving this girl a home please email us at [email protected] or fill out an application through our website at heartofthefoothills.org/foster.

We love it when adoptions are in the double digits! And that’s what we had last week - 12 in total! We’re so happy that Excedrin, Autumn & Scarlet (adopted together), December & Icicle (adopted together), Sally, Dove, Elrond (aka Ducky), Tinsel, Latte, Winter, and Bear are now snug in their new loving homes. Thank you to everyone who adopted from us, and to all our supporters who enable us to keep working hard for the cats and dogs of Rutherford County. We may not be able to save them all, but we’ll save as many as we can, thanks to you! Stay warm and cozy on this foggy morning! ❤️

It was a great week for Heart of the Foothills. We managed to take in 35 animals this week. Twenty cats and fifteen puppies were brought into our care including one dog we were able to return to Foothills Humane Society that showed up at our rescue as a stray and a small adult dog that we were able to help out so we could return her to her rightful owner. (Photo not shown.) Some were scared, some were very friendly, and all were in need of our help. Welcome to Heart of the Foothills Animal Rescue, it will only get better from here.

Thank you, commissioners Hunter Haynes & Donnie Haulk. It was very nice meeting you both.

With everything going on in the county, our emails are starting to become flooded with people requesting more help. We don’t have the resources or the space to take in all the animals that are being sent our way. It is heartbreaking having to say no when we want so badly to say yes. We often wonder what happens to the animals we must turn away. Where are they now? Did they find a safe place to stay? We are reaching out to the community asking for more fosters. We need your help. We need fosters for cats, kittens, nursing moms, pregnant moms, big dog fosters, and puppy fosters. We provide anything and everything you will need. Food, bowls, crates, litter boxes, litter, toys, medical care, etc. All you provide is the home and love. If you have reached out about fostering in the past and you did not hear anything back, it was not intentional and please reach back out. If you are interested in fostering for us please email us at [email protected] or fill out a foster application form through our website at heartofthefoothills.org/foster.

Working to make Rutherford County a No-Kill community

Our mission is to provide a safe haven for the abandoned, abused, neglected, lost and homeless animals in our county, giving them the time, patience and help they need to a new beginning at life.

We work closely with the county shelter to stop the euthanasia of healthy cats & dogs who are victims of an overcrowded system with limited space and resources. We are able to save these animals through our adoption center/ shelter and our wonderful team of foster homes.

If you are interested in volunteering at our shelter or in becoming a foster parent, please contact us at [email protected] or make a donation to keep our program going through PayPal to [email protected]
